Deus Ex: Revision Mod 1.4.0.1 is now available for download, brings lots of improvements & fixes

Caustic Creative has released a brand new version of its overhaul mod for the original Deus Ex, Revision. In case you weren’t aware of, Deus Ex: Revision is a large-scale re-imagining of the world of Deus Ex, bringing a tightly integrated aesthetic-oriented approach to the original gameplay.

According to the release notes, version 1.4.0.1 fixes the subtitles incorrectly being displayed offscreen when playing at a 16:9 resolution, fixes some really bad doors, doors with gaps wider than was required or doors clipping into walls and being visible from outside in the Training area, and improves framerate in Versalife.

In addition, this new version adds a light to the spydrone which can be activated with the light aug, an option to change handedness to left/right/hidden, prevents the player from dying while quickloading, and fixes numerous bugs and issues.

  1. when i was deciding wherever to use this or the other mod you know the one, i watched a video review that said that revision is just making some maps really large and has horrible gameplay with one shot headshot enemies.

  2. Such a great game… But if you missed the train in 2000, the combats in this game are horrible… Don’t replie “you must go stealth” argument, Deus Ex is not a stealth game. And Revision does nothing to change that, still horrible combat, it also known to be a bit unbalanced, still waiting for a mod that can give this game a true second breath

    1. say you missed the train in 2000, doesnt change its the biggest redpill and all the conspiracy theories in it are proven correct nowdays.

      1. Following Devo Stripes’ recent epic meltdown in the ‘Red Dead Redemption 2’s companion app files include references to a PC version’ article’s comments section I’d advise much caution in trusting anything he says.

      2. True, the background and theme were awesome, it was well written, and the upgrade system was a blast, i’m just speaking about the combat, and this mod in particular

    2. I heard of it, indeed the weapon feedback is better in GMDX and the ennemies are less bullet spongy, but still rigid like you’re controlling a brick, and there’s some over the top gore effects in the latest version that doesn’t fit in a game like that, anyway, thanks a lot for suggesting me that, i’ll try it, i hope it can load my saves from vanilla game, but i don’t think so, Revision doesn’t…

    3. Both are immersive sim games, it’s litterally telling me to do the way i want and all the solutions are equal, in Deus Ex the stealth is too much forced, because of the choppy combat mecanics, i’m OK with stealth but sometimes i just want to shoot people

      1. Chalking ‘choppy combat mechanics’ to Deus Ex proves without a doubt that you didn’t play the game past the first map or so. As you improve your character with combat skills (if you indeed choose to go that way), the combat turns to normal. It’s artificially bad only in the beginning if you don’t train the skills associated with it.

        1. I finished the game game twice, in my second run i tried to build a Combat JC Denton and even if the foes die faster, the combat mecanics are still choppy because it’s the way the game is developed, it’s hardcoded that way, and i think the mods can’t change that, even DX Invisible War that is far inferior to DX1 has better combats

          1. Really, combat is better in Invisible War, with its universal ammo nonsense, limited inventory and less weapons…

          2. Yeah even with all it flaws, i think Invisible War combats feel better, mostly because the enemies give you some feedback when you shoot them thanks to ragdoll physics, in DX1 you shoot them and they’re not even reacting to your shots, and they die with a scripted animation that not even match you shot sometimes (shoot to head, die with a shot to the chest animation) and they’re poorly animated overall, even back in 2000, they were shooters like Soldier of Fortune that have better bullet impacts, i think that DX1 suffered a long developement and at the time of release, some things got dated, but anyway, still a great game, greater than it’s sequels

  3. There’s a veritable sh*tstorm erupting in the mod’s comments section at moddb due to it seemingly supporting only the Steam release of the game, i.e. not catering to those who own the disc-based or GOG release.

For those affected, there appears to be a workaround as outlined in the comments section for the ‘Deus Ex: Revision Patch 1.4.0.1 (cumulative)’ iteration of the mod.

    1. Well, I pirated the game so I should be okay. I bought it when it was brand new, so I have no issues with saying I pirated it.

        1. KIM stays in a perpetual state of trigger 24/7. The poor soul is always angry at pirates. I don’t understand why some people want to be angry all the time. Seems like a miserable way to go through life to me.

    2. That was weird, considering the Steam version is sold by Square Enix, and the former devs don’t get any royalities, i don’t get why those modders done that, the game code and file structure is the same for the three versions except different exe’s and dll’s that aren’t even linked to gameplay or assets, must be some deal made with Square…
PS : You can trust me sometimes, don’t be a D, sometimes you agree with someone, sometimes no

  4. I’m curious what you think of Invisible War. I played it and enjoyed it for the most part but it’s not the same quality as the first Deus Ex. Warren Spector finally admitted a couple of years ago that the game was geared towards consoles because that’s where the money was back then and the PC version was simply an afterthought. Took him 13 years to admit what was painfully obvious to us back then.

Hell, some people hated Invisible War so much that they denied it even existed. They count Human Revolution as the second Deus Ex game.

The dialogue was silly at times. I recall one of the factions sending two assassins to kill me and then later asked if I wanted to join her faction. lol No, you tried to kill me b*tch..

    1. Nothing wrong with not wanting to play Invisible War. A lot of people felt that way. I liken it to the first Unreal game. It was a classic and Unreal 2: The Awakening was just a shadow of that great game. It came out the same year as Invisible War and received a WTF is this greeting. Only two games that came out that year that were better than the first imo were Max Payne 2 and Homeworld 2.

It’s unfortunately all to common for a Publisher to think that they can get away with such poor sequels compared to the first just based on the reputation of the first.
