Crytek hints at Crysis 2 Remastered

Crytek has just shared a tweet in which it clearly hints at Crysis 2 Remastered. Now while this is a small hint and nothing more, we’ve decided to share it because some of Crytek’s internal documents have already leaked Crysis 2 Remastered and Crysis 3 Remastered.

Crysis 2 Remastered tease

In case you’re wondering, that phrase is from the beginning of Crysis 2.

To be honest, I wasn’t a big fan of Crysis 2. I also don’t expect this remaster to have major improvements over the game’s DX11 PC Ultra Upgrade. We might get some additional ray-tracing effects, but I’m almost certain that the character models will remain the same. Contrary to the first Crysis game, Crytek had already released an HD Texture Pack for the PC version of Crysis 2. Not only that, but modder MaLDo has released an amazing mod that overhauls the game’s visuals.

In short, I expect Crysis 2 Remastered to look a bit better than Crysis 2 modded. After all, that’s exactly what happened with the first Crysis game. And, to its credit, Crytek has addressed a lot of the issues we mentioned in the PC Performance Analysis of Crysis Remastered.

Stay tuned for more!

  1. OG Crysis desperately needed a remaster to get rid of it flaws, and yet they butchered it and they didn’t fix any of the issues people were expecting to be fixed, Crysis 2 doesn’t need a remaster at all, it runs great and looks pretty, even more with Maldo Textures + Blackfire, who the Fck will care about an Epic exclusive trash remaster of an already clean game with no modding capabilities and Denuvo on top of that ?

    1. At this point, they’re probably doing it just to get that sweet sweet EGS exclusive money

    2. All I wanted was multicore support and optimization, but alas Crytek is not only a console focused dev nowadays but an incompetent one at that.

      1. I swear it was the only thing i expected too, what a missed chance to make this game shine on newer hardware at last, the fact we got a remaster of the console version is beyond insulting

        1. Haha, damn I totally missed that opportunity. Damn you man ??? Hopefully I’ll be able to keep up with you next time. Well said man, just damn beautiful.

  2. MaldoHDv4 is an absolute must for anyone playing Crysis 2. The improved textures and the repaired environment props collisions are amazing. Plus the extra lighting and tessellation everywhere.

  3. Ok will they also include the performance gimper technology they developed from the original Crysis 2 into the remaster.

  4. Crysis 2 dx11 and crysis 3 run great and still look great they dont need a remaster

Crysis remaster was needed mostly to support modern hardware properly with some visual upgrades and they failed at that

  5. If it’s free for existing owners then fair enough, But I’m not buying the game again just for some visual enhancements.
Some companies do the right thing with their games, Metro Exodus enhanced for example was free to existing owners.

  6. “I also don’t expect this remaster to have major improvements over the game’s DX11 PC Ultra Upgrade.”

I do. It has to look on par or better than Crysis Remastered. Crysis 2 has questionable image quality (bad / no usable AA) and overall looks like a late Xbox 360 game because it is. The GI solution was also Crytek’s very first attempt and swapping that out for SVOGI will do wonders for the game’s look. Then there’s the fact that a lot of C2 effects were experimental, especially the ones the DX11 patch added, so they absolutely tank performance.
The one thing they don’t need to touch are the materials / textures. Those are still good enough for today.

  7. Crysis 2 was a great game with an addictive multiplayer which was quickly shut down with gamespy. I could go back to Crysis 2 MP anytime if they “remastered” it too, but if this is just the single player then I see no point as Crysis 2 still looks and runs great.
