Sony has released God of War on PC and as we’ve already reported, the PC port is pretty great. However, and by default, the game only runs on Windows 10 and Windows 11. Thankfully, there is a mod now that you can use in order to play it on Windows 7, Windows 8 or Windows 8.1.
Created by modders ‘okt04175’ and ‘alan2350’ this Windows 7 /8 Unofficial Patch does exactly what it says. The modders have modified the OS version detection behavior so that it can be launched with Win7/8/8.1. However, you cannot use this mod in order to play the game on Windows 10/11.
After applying Patch to GoW.exe, you’ll have to download and decompress DXVK d3d11.dll and dxgi.dll and put them next to GoW.exe and start the game. You may also have to use the DXVK Async Patch if necessary.
You can download the mod from here. Alongside this mod, you’ll also need doitsujin’s dxvk, HansKristian-Work’s vkd3d-proton, Sporif’s DXVK-Async Patch and marco-calautti’s DeltaPatcher. Links to these programs are listed on the mod’s page.

Performance for “Original” preset is mostly fine.
580 and 1060 are pretty much twice the power of the PS4’s underclocked GCN2 variant of 7870. Those scale fair, let’s say. But every other preset is whack-a-mole performance wise.

Nah. Even Xbox One is closer to a 7790. PS4 is a GCN2 variant of a 7870 underclocked to under HD 7850 performance levels.
It performs better than a 7850 , but worse than a 7870 , its a sort of 7860.

There’s a lot less overhead and it’s faster, less resource intensive so you can focus that power more on software you run. Less underhanded tricks by MS especially with updates etc I don’t run win7/8 either but did until a couple years ago, bought new hardware was the reason and arbitrary dx12 lockouts of certain games, even though many don’t use it or can also do dx11 like this one. Win8.1 still has official support btw. LTSC can get close or equal though.
Well, that’s just not true. Windows 7 is in no way faster than Windows 10.
Also, anecdotally, Windows 7 just feels sluggish in windows explorer in comparison to newer Windows versions.
Also there’s this belief that Windows 7 doesn’t have telemetry. (It does, they’re just more open with it now).
One thing’s for sure, Win7 is ful of bugs(especially if you updated it to SP1 and beyond). I used it for 11 years and then went to Win10 in 2020 when I fully upgraded my setup(Didn’t want to mess with trying to install Win7 on new hardware and have all the headaches at the time). Although win10 is a pain in the a*s to get it working without all the bloat and M$ crammed shlt I was glad to be finally free from those Win7 annoying explorer/interface bugs.
And yes I know Win10 was full of bugs at the beginning too but at least it’s kinda stable now. Still, I fully agree that Win7 was the better OS for games, it was straight to the point.
I’ve never been naive enough to think it doesn’t have telemetry and never mentioned that. I’ve seen several tests on notebookreview comparing response times and win7 always wins. Updates in win10 obviously have a bad history, I have those totally disabled for that reason.
Win7 explorer works much faster for me than 10/11.

Just download and install Win10 LTSC 21H2. Win7 & 8.1 aren’t getting security updates, they’ve lost a lot of support, and with LTSC + Win10 Privacy + Gpedit, you can disable all of the unneeded services, processes, and features that come with 10, on top of LTSC already having drastically less bloat. It will undoubtedly be faster than Win7 & 8.1 for booting & usage.
I’ve got several versions of ltsc 1809 and it’s on my other rig just too lazy to start from scratch on this which came with win10 home 2004. I’m not a stickler eeking out every bit of performance etc and it works fine, use sordum apps and winaerotweaker to disable a lot of stuff.
Coz 10 sucks.

Do games have less input lag/latency on Windows 7 vs Windows 10 and 11? I am thinking about installing Windows 7, because I think I remember games feeling more responsive on my old 2010 pc with windows 7 installed vs my pc now. It’s been so long since I’ve used Windows 7. Should I install the original 2009 version with the service pack 1, or should i get the windows 7 2018 version? Do each versions have different latency?

Cancerous GCN 1.0 trash aside, I can easily break out some pen and paper and achieve more calculations per second than one of those cancerous Jaguar CPU’s found in such garbage consoles. And yet the peasants are forced to enable DLSS / FSR if they don’t already own gouged trash $1200+ GPU’s and even then you’re looking at rubbish framerates at higher resolutions and presets.
Garbage trash isn’t even worth the disk space to pirate.

Is there anyway to force these games into dx11? Im talking about HZD, RD2, Cyberpunk, etc. I use 3Dmigoto wrapper for modding, but unfortunately it only works on DX11 games. The port is fine as long as you stay with original settings other than textures (go as high as your VRAM allows) and you can even put atmosphere to low. Put film grain and motion blur at zero. My old undervolted VEGA 56 can run this game at 1440p 60 and that is with AMD image sharpening set to 50 in the driver that looks better than ultra options in this game. Those ultra options covers up cool light effects on the forest floor with blanket shadows that use more GPU power or makes things too dark with higher AO and shadows cus they never designed scenes around it.
Now is the game great? This is the most overrated game in history. It recently won best game over Witcher 3 on IGN, with what is assuredly an astroturfing campaign. It’s not better than Witcher 3 EXPANIONS. This game is basically a GPU benchmark and one of the best art teams in the world showing off, with possibly the best art and animation of any game in history. Other than that it has stupid Marvel quirky dialogue for morons that is much worse than something like the old Uncharted games and it’s depth is all skin deep.
Gameplay sucks donkey d*ck. Mouse threading is awful as someone else mentioned for aiming and the controls for console feel much, much worse than something like Respawns Jedi Fallen Order.
If you have an IQ over 75, you will be bored by the time you are done with the Dark Elf zone. Bad gameplay for a hour, some puzzles worse than the recent Tomb Raider games for the payoff of the same sh@^ you have seen 100 times with the gruff “toxic masculinity” Dad learning how to be a bigger pu#$y, with his whiny kid that looks like the actress from the movie Tank Girl. I’m sure Balrog thought he was tackling mental illness and faux autistic woke retards relationship with their “toxic” father’s with this stupid kid. He” prob make the kid trans in the next game.
So is it worth the money? As a GPU benchmark not really. I would rather walk around the world just looking at the art than play the game or listen to the dialogue. It’s like the old Uncharted games if the dialogue sucked, characters sucked, humor fell flat.

Without their art, animation and tech teams Druckmann and Balrog would be indie devs making no money. I’ve never seen two “leads” carried more than these 2 a$^holes.
Yeah I imagine the game cost was in the hundreds of millions for the animation and marketing. The old Kratos was also a far more interesting character and there was a reason he was ticked off. Now it’s just pushed as toxic masculinity pseudo science. Every work of entertainment now is just Buffy the Vampire quirky characters to play off the dry character and you know what these stupid characters are going to say or how they will react before they even do it. It’s all so boring. Feels like I am watching a formula Marvel movie and not playing a God of War game.
In addition the game is just to show off the one strength they have. Artists/tech. Random Neverending story turtle, random Pumba the pig friend from Lion King, random bright contrasting colors to show off HDR. Ultimately it’s the most commercial game ever, while the artists and leads rant against capitalism on twitter and pass themselves off as making high art.
