This Cyberpunk 2077 Mod fixes the game’s broken Ray Tracing/Path Tracing reflections

Modder ‘TenebrisVenit’ has released a new mod for Cyberpunk 2077 that aims to fix the game’s broken Ray Tracing/Path Tracing reflections. This mod is for version 2.1 which became available earlier this month.

For those unaware, CDPR has somehow made the Ray Tracing and Path Tracing reflections look worse in V2.1. So, by using this mod, you can improve their quality. I’ve tested the mod and I can confirm that the reflections now look better and are more consistent. However, this mod does not fix the weird billboard and shadow issues. I’ve detailed these issues in my previous article, so be sure to read it.

You can download this mod from this link. Below you can also find some comparison screenshots. The vanilla version is on the left, whereas the modded version is on the right. I’ve also circled the points of interest in these screenshots.

Plus, Law Enforcement Overhaul is a mod that enhances the game’s Police System. And there’s even a mod that integrates the OpenAI API which enables ChatGPT support. Finally, this mod restores 100 NPCs that were cut from the game.

    1. Witcher 3 has the same problems except it’s not rendering some sky reflections. You’ll see the trees reflected but not the clouds which do appear if you turn off RT and use screen space reflections. It’s like they turned off some reflections to work on streamlining other reflections and then forgot to turn them back on again.

      What I find interesting is the mod author managed to turn them back on again without access to the game engine code itself. It looks like he got lucky and found an INI entry to turn them back on again. The only other method would be a lot of time with trial and error with a hex editor and hacking the EXE

      I thought my days of hacking EXEs in a hex editor had long ago ended but since I got an ultrawide monitor I’ve had to hack nearly every game I own to make the game engine rendered cutscenes render in 21:9 instead of 16:9. Developers seem to be to lazy to write a few lines of code to track the main game resolutions and set the cutscene resolution to the same which is just 4 bytes of code to define resolution. Instead they just hardcode it for 16:9 and I have to go in, find the 4 bytes of code ( 16:9 1440p = 39 8E E3 3F) and replace it with the 4 byte code for 21:9 (21:9 1440p = 8E E3 18 40)

        This just shows how open and flexible the Red Engine really is. You just have to know the right function names to control those functions. I’m hoping with the mod editor that is coming out next year for Witcher 3 that they open source this game engine code since it is officially EoL and not going to be used going forward so there is really nothing to lose and a lot to gain. They still kind of owe us something for the condition of Cyberpunk when it released. Something more than just the bare minimum of making it right 2 years later
