The Witcher 3 HD Reworked Project NextGen Edition Released

And the time has finally come. After four years of hard work, modder ‘Halk Hogan’ released The Witcher 3 HD Reworked Project NextGen Edition.

The Witcher 3 HD Reworked Project improves the game with top-notch textures that look great and run smoothly, without needing more VRAM. If you’re already playing on Max settings, you’ll be able to use this mod. The pack will include high-quality, accurate normal maps, many of which are made from detailed 3D models. The project also brings better LODs for objects, as well as a better view distance.

The modder claims that HD Reworked NextGen Edition will have high-quality textures using the new mapping technique implemented in the Next-Gen version of the game. Thanks to this, many textures in HDRP NextGen Edition will be much more realistic.

In short, this is a must-have mod for The Witcher 3 Next-Gen. So, waste no time and download it from this link. The mod is 11GB in size. At the end of the article, you can also find a 15-minute video for it. This video shows off some of its key features, so be sure to check it out.

What’s also great is that this mod is compatible with the Old-Gen version. So, if you play on the 1.31/2 old-gen version, you’ll have to delete the file “mod00000HDReworkedProject” from the mods folder, download “modHDReworkedProject4” from Miscellaneous files, and replace the one from the main files. And that’s it. The mod will now work with the Old-Gen version.

It’s also worth noting that the mod works on all ingame settings. However, Halk Hogan recommends setting textures preset to Ultra+ for the best image quality.

Speaking of The Witcher 3 Next-Gen, you can also download some other cool mods for it. For example, there is a really cool first-person mod. Furthermore, the Characters Reworked Project improves the quality of over 100 characters. Let’s also not forget this mod that lets you kill most in-game NPCs. Then we have this mod that overhauls the game’s combat with better animations, better targeting and new dodging mechanics. In July 2024, we also shared mods that restored the boat races and added 15 new quests. Plus, a modder has restored the reputation system that CDPR cut from the game.

In December 2023, we shared this mod that restores content that was cut from all previous The Witcher games. Then, in February 2024, we shared a mod that attempted to remove the fake “hero” light from the game’s cut-scenes. There is also this mod that allows you to explore a part of the world from the first The Witcher game in TW3. Oh, and don’t forget this mod that allows you to ride a Griffin.

We also have some mods for those playing with Ray Tracing. The RTX Mirrors Mod adds proper reflections to the game’s mirrors. Then we have this mod that improves the fire effects via Ray Tracing Global Illumination. Plus, this mod fixes the Ray Tracing bleach issues.

Enjoy and stay tuned for more!

  1. Are there alternatives though?
I'm downloading the mod currently at 1.5mb/s.
    It's taking a few hours.
Quite slow, but who cares? Are you in a hurry?
I couldn't care less about that, it's fast enough for me, and it's not like I download hundreds of mods anyway.

    1. NO. I meant, are there alternative websites to download this specific mod, especially this new version?
Don't you play smartass with me, pathetic midget.
I'll give you searching on the internet, low-expectation-having peckerwood.

      1. MegaFire Girl, I liked to face updates every 2-3 years. sad to see them go(reminded me ya'll arent all bots/pre-teens), I thought you looked quite good last one…

  2. While I may not agree with all of their policies, NexusMods has helped keep mods free, and they have a lifetime subscription that doesn't cost that much (at least the last time I checked). They also have the best mod site bar none, with the best user experience. I've been a lifetime member for so long, I no longer even remember when I paid for it.

    1. I Hate their POZ stance on based mods and how that limits a WHOLE sphere/sector of modding from even getting a footing/start….BuT They provide a Great service that got me to buy a Lifetime 6+ years ago(plus Vortex is SO easy).

    2. "Nexusmods has somewhat limited download speeds (1.5MB/s with add blocker and 3MB without add blocker), but I think that's fast enough for free downloads.

        1. Yeah a lot of jokers, many of them here, have no clue how much it costs per month to rent server space for an organization that needs the kind of bandwidth a business like Nexus Mods needs. They all think everything should be free for them but that's just not how the real world works.

A businessman like myself understands the costs of owning and running a business and I have no problem at all paying for a yearly subscription to keep this service running. I don't even think it took me 5 minutes to download this mod. I also gave the mod author a measly 20 bucks back in 2021 because he does good work and is a nice guy.

          1. True. It probably costs them tens of thousands of dollars a month for servers and bandwidth (granted most of the bandwidth is probably handled by a CDN, so it could be cheaper than I'm estimating). They also provide rewards for mod creators that can be cashed out for games or even real money, they operate their business out of an office in London (which I think is an insane waste of money), and they employ possibly around a dozen people who work out of their office. Of course there's also taxes, software and service subscriptions they need for their employees to do their jobs, etc. which all cost a lot of money as well. That lifetime subscription I paid for all those years ago was quite a bargain considering how much money they probably need to keep their service online.

  3. Some of these I OMGed at the upgrade, but theres the odd 10% that look worse/wrong. Still an amazing endeavor, I'll tip this dude when the day comes and I decide to LIVE/play Witcher 3.

    1. Shut Upchurch down her thin plank in a selfish way and I don't know if I can make sure we get to know each participant in a selfish way to get a good good the way they are getting to the basement as well get a job in a selfish way to get a job in your own.

  4. The game already looks good. I feel these are waste of effort. Wish he would upscale textures for older games (2000-2015). Ps2 to early ps4 era games needed some good upscale mods

    1. It's hard to upscale old games because they are 32 bit and thus have a 4 GB memory limitation and that is total memory both system RAM and VRAM together. You can do some memory bank switching but that needs to be part of the exe and it's also clunky as hell since those old game also only use one or two CPU cores which limits performance

    1. I hope he makes money from these articles. They're all full of the same copy pasted text at the end with all the mod links, and the writing in general never changes, which Google apparently doesn't like. But if it works for DSOG, oh well.

  5. its my first mod for TW3 and although its hard too see the difference between the mod and vanilla, i used my ipad to check the comparison pictures from the site, i do appreciate the bumpmapping of the stones and bricks those do definitely make the game better looking.
