Modder ‘woodboy90’ has released a new version of his RTX Remix Path Tracing Mod for Quake 3: Arena. According to the release notes, Version 1.2 remasters three more maps for id Software’s classic multiplayer arena shooter.
Going into more details, Patch 1.2 remasters the q3tourney1, q3dm3, and q3dm17 maps. So, this means that the mod now has improved six maps in total.
Moreover, Update 1.2 brings improvements to the normal and height map textures, as well as to the lighting. It also improves the quality of four new character models. In total, the mod has improved eighteen character models. Furthermore, it improves the quality of eight weapons.
It’s also worth noting that it’s now easier to install the mod. All you have to do is copy all original Quake III .pk3 files ( pak0.pk3 – pak8.pk3 ) from your Quake III Arena installation into the baseq3 folder. Then, you’ll have to run q3rtx.exe once, and that will be it.
You can go ahead and download the latest version of the Quake 3: Arena RTX Remix Mod from this link. At the end of the article, you can also find a trailer for it.
If you are into RTX Remix Mods, you can find similar ones for a lot of other titles. For instance, you can find such mods for Black Mesa, Star Wars Republic Commando, NFS: Underground, and Manhunt. You can also find some for BioShock, Morrowind, NFS: Underground 2, Star Wars Jedi Outcast, Max Payne, Grand Theft Auto 4, and Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines.
In January 2024, we shared several RTX Remix Mods that are in the works. As such, you can take a look at screenshots and videos for Tomb Raider 2, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, Manhunt, and Garfield Kart RTX Remix. Then, in February 2024, we shared videos for Need for Speed: Most Wanted, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 4, and Midnight Club 2. Be sure to also check out some early RTX Remix videos and screenshots for Fallout: New Vegas, Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell, COD 2, and Half-Life.
Speaking of Path Tracing Mods for older titles, you might also want to check out the following ones. Modders released demos for their Path Tracing Mods for Deus Ex, Tomb Raider, and Call of Duty 4. Do note that the COD4 Mod is a “proof of concept” demo, and it does not look that great. Let’s also not forget the RTX Remix for COD: WoW. And then we have the RTX Remix Mods for Painkiller and Left 4 Dead 2. Unreal Tournament 2004 and Unreal Gold have also gotten the path-traced treatment. Lastly, you can download these amazing Path Tracing Mods for Doom, Doom 2, Quake, and Serious Sam.
Have fun!
