Activision has revealed that the first gameplay footage for Destiny 2 will be unveiled on May 18th. On that day, Activision will hold an event during which players (most notably YouTubers) will get hands-on with with both the console version and the PC version.
NeoGAF’s member ‘josecitoxnyo‘ has shared the box that was sent to those that were invited to this event.
As it’s being suggested, this will event will take place in Los Angeles, and the keynote will begin at 10AM. Attenders will get their hands on Destiny 2 after the keynote.
It’s worth noting that this event will be livestreamed. As Bungie claimed:
“The broadcast will showcase a variety of fun, action-oriented activities within Destiny 2, and will highlight the brand-new, epic adventure waiting for players. With a fresh start for all players right from the opening cinematic, Destiny 2 will expand across the globe with a worldwide release on September 8.”
So yeah, expect to see the PC version of Destiny 2 up and running in a few days!

So it’s an invitation-only official Activision press event for cherry-picked YouTubers whereby free gifts (see picture) will evidently be issued, expenses will presumably be covered for the stay in Los Angeles and plenty of sponsored video content will likely be subsequently produced.
That should definitely help ensure the consumer is provided with fair and balanced coverage and reviews of the product! Not wholly dissimilar to the scandal of Ubisoft having given free Nexus 7 tablets to gaming site ‘journalists’ at their Paris press event for Watch_Dogs in 2014 that some ‘journalists’ from the sites in question initially kept secret and only admitted to after the story was leaked.
Cares.
F*ck generating even more Desetiny hype, & seriously, these “closed reveal” events are just cancer. To me all they say is “we’re not comfortable having the Internet excessively dissect our gameplay footage.”
Why not? If you’re not ready to show it to the general public, then why are you showing it to a bunch of sycophants?
This is why I’m so bored to death and tired to hell of companies like Activision trying so damn hard for decades on trying to control just about everything within their reach. First it’s games, then footage and now platforms. Like just about any dev out there who’s tried to control how a game is played and what level of “protection” it’s to come with, has failed on many accounts, this won’t be the last either.
It’ll get dissected upon launch and it’ll go for broke on PC because that crowd is smart enough to react to what’s being displayed to them ,rather than the console crowd that eats absolutely everything up (PC does eat some crap up, not going to lie there, but consoles made season passes a complete success and mainstay for AAA games).
Though I have to admit, even I liked season passes at first, due to the better price point & how you could snag them all at once instead of clicking through 20 sh*ts on Steam every time……. Then Battlefield 3’s Premium “Season Pass” came along, & I got turned right off >.<
I still can’t believe BF1/BF’s passes, like another £40 for DLC that you won’t get completely until another year passes and even then your community shrivels up and dies, rendering your extra £40 investment as being pointless.
I honestly don’t see a point anymore in investing £80+ into MP based games, it’s not even remotely worth it, not even if I passed the 100 hr mark. For that price I’d want at least a 5 yr uptime as the bare minimum.
I’ve played games like STarbound that cost me £15 and I’ve played them for years and gotten so much out of those games, yet for games like BF1/BF, I’m paying tons more and getting very little out of those.
Clearly AAA games these days are lacking in polish, quality storytelling and cost even more than your average indie, but it’s also sad to see that they aren’t seeing the need to change. They will just copy Youtube’s stupid psych tricks of “plz like and sub me” (because it actually does work and have an effect on some peeps minds) with “pre-order now and get the BONUUUUS EDITIOOOON”. People are already rolling with CoD WWII’s PS4 exclusive content trick.
You seemingly don’t!
Indeed. However, my comment wasn’t about the quality of said franchise. It was about the grubby shenanigans of the so-called triple-A games industry insofar as how they seek to shape and control the views of the gaming media so to present us, the consumer, with corrupt coverage of games. That should matter to all gamers who give a damn about not being lied to by the media.
no content for over a year on pc.if dlc drops 5 months later its 1 year and 5 months for any new content.
no one will be playing this on pc within 4 months look at the division…lmao.
the pc is for esports not multiplayer games like this.
it will do well on console but not pc.
Bubble Bobble had a better story than Destiny.
no content for over a year on pc.when ever the ps4 gets content could be 4 months would you wait 1 year and 4months to play the dlc?…not me.
got ya im still debating.
i ejoyed the first destiny but there wasnt a yar wait for content.if the game play and classes arnt good then no.
i played and level each class in destiny and did a lot of pvp.why im 2nd guessing destiny is the year wait for content.
on the first destiny it was skins or a gun but not content.making a year wait for dlc makes you consider not getting it.
how many times do i need to say ALL CONTENT is held back a year .what does all content include dlc, guns, skins ect.
ALL content.
isnt that all the content skins, guns and strikes?all content?
thats all destiny is tho strikes and raids.thats the destiny content.
to me content is all content so we will see.
im on xbox and no guns or skins ever came over here.
This isn’t a review event, it is a press release. They can do whatever they want.
“This isn’t a review event…”
I’m well aware of that fact.
“Do you think usually AAA developers send out their code to people so they can try it? No.”
Actually, yes. It’s commonplace for the gaming press to receive preview code of games prior to release. As you’ve said “people” then that’d also include the consumer who also gets to experience sample content in the form of alpha, beta and demo builds of games prior to release.
“Journalists almost ALWAYS have to visit the studio in question to get scoops on the game in development”
So? Besides, we’re not talking about journalistic “scoops” so I don’t know why you’re mentioning that.
“This however is the developers inviting a bunch of press and youtubers to come and make their own content”
This however is the publishers eyeing a PR opportunity by inviting a bunch of press and YouTubers to come and make their own content while buttering them up with freebies, paid expenses and generally currying favour with them so to help shape press coverage to their advantage which usually means sycophantic coverage that’s ultimately anti-consumer in nature.
“you seemingly have a very bleak and insultingly poor opinion of the integrity of game journalism”
I absolutely have a fair and accurate impression of gaming ‘journalism’ based on many years of having observed myriad instances of grubby shenanigans and a lack of integrity. Whether that be print magazines back in the day, websites and now ‘new media’ such as YouTube.
“Maybe you just need to get gaming news from more trusted sources”
It’s not all about me. I’m referring to the bigger picture, which should have been rather obvious. However, I do precisely that by placing trust in a sadly quite small number of sources including the likes of DSOG, TotalBiscuit, Jim Sterling and Worthabuy.
People always like to think their ultra pessimism is somehow them being a realist, but it isn’t. Your bleak view of the industry is from your own perception.
This isn’t some greedy heavy handed backdoor deal. This is a pretty standard run of the mill press event. It is your own pre-conceived notions that everyone in the industry is out to get you.
This paranoid pessimism is starting to really get on my nerves, and is not healthy to the industry at all. Everyone’s dumb gutteral assumption that every developer is somehow trying to manipulate people into getting as much money from them is just a really sh*tty attitude to have about a medium of art.
U-BE-SOFT. Watch_Dogs event. Free Nexus 7 tablets (which were never disclosed to the public. Rather, the whole thing was just awkwardly leaked to us…. oops!)
‘Nuff said?
“Everyone’s dumb gutteral assumption that every developer is somehow trying to manipulate people into getting as much money from them is just a really sh*tty attitude to have about a medium of art.”
Why, you really think they’re not? After all, at the end of the day, they’re businesses, not charities. Maybe you can still find an independent that does it for the art, rather than the money (an indie team of 2-5 people, for example), but all the publisher-owned sellouts? They’re just that; greedy little sellouts.
Better to be a realist than to be so utterly naive.
Once again, swing and a miss. You are NOT a realist. You need to re-read my first statement again. “People always like to think their ultra pessimism is somehow them being a realist, but it isn’t”.
Being a pessimist doesn’t make your ideas closer to reality, it just means your paranoid.
Once again, I was entirely correct. Thanks for your naive and misguided opinions, though.
“you seemingly have a very bleak and insultingly poor opinion of the integrity of game journalism.”
Ever heard of GamerGate?
Guess who started it.
B… bu… but… ‘gamers are dead’, remember!
Right, we’re Neo-Gamers!
;D
Or, Post-Gamers? Post-Modern Gamers? New Wavers?
AKA ‘normal people’, i.e. not the vocal minority of Leftist/liberal ‘journalists’ of the SJW persuasion employed by the likes of Polygon, Kotaku and Gamasutra who colluded via the now defunct GameJournoPros private Google Group so to push their narrative.
Agreed, it’s definitely something that will color or outright persuade their opinions towards the positive side. That said, I doubt the PC version is a total trainwreck, otherwise they wouldn’t be letting them go hands on with it at all. As for the game itself, it will most definitely be a cherry picked vertical slice. For those somehow interested in the game, just wait for reviews as always.
no one will be playing this on pc in 4 months after launch as with most multiplayer games and im not talking about esports.
Since it appears you can tell the future can you share the lotto numbers for next week?
changed you post huh?”I wish I could also look into the future. That must be handy”ts called common sense.anything other then an esport or mmo dont last long on pc its fact.
look at star wars battlefront, the division, battlefield 1 died fast after launch and for honor.
multiplayer game dont last long on pc.
Hmm so do explain why 8 of the top games by current player count on steam are multiplayer games.
again changing you posts huh?”Sup
Hmm so do explain why 8 of the top games by current player count on steam are multiplayer games. Dota 2, cs go, tf2 etc all have healthy player counts and have been out for ages”
you saw how you post was because those are esports as i said in my post which you saw what you posted…lmao.
im talking cod,bf1 ect..a smart person would see that.
you need to let me tach you how to troll grasshopper.
You’re just a closet console fanboy who wastes his pathetic life trolling a PC website with your stupid comments. I don’t know why I bother with you
Block my dude. Use it.
people who block cant win an argument and are 9 times out of 10 wrong
Or, they just don’t want to waste their time discussing blatantly obvious facts with morons like yourself, maybe?
Sh*t, no, that can’t possibly be!
the truth is a troll and i speak the truth.
got ya i win.
Dude, he’s an admitted troll. Just block him, then you never need to see his comments again.
I expect us to see the console version, with the supposed “PC” version looking practically the same.
First one was based around consoles, I don’t see why the second one wouldn’t. I can’t say I’m ecstatic to see a console version being duplicated on my platform of choice, though I bet it will come with a few “demanding” settings that will give it a 10% difference in visuals for twice the demand.
While I couldn’t care less about the Destiny franchise at least its fans will be able to experience it at a proper frame-rate now that the sequel is coming to PC.
I hope the game allows you to shoot stuff, because shooting objects in a first-person perspective is a mechanic not used by many modern games.
That’s either a bad use of sarcasm, or you just really like destructible environments, but don’t know how to express it effectively. o_o
Your face is a bad use of sarcasm.
Wow, you got me. ?_?
Ten bucks say they will be handed a gamepad for the PC test.
It looks more natural with gamepad movement. Can’t achieve that kind of smooth movement with mouse.
any of you pc gamers actually going to get it knowing that there is ZERO content for over a year?you will get content 1 year from when the ps4 get its so it can be longer then a year.
the last desting took like 12hr to beat the story mode. so im just wondering if any of you are going to actually get it with no content?
