Gears of War 4 offers crossplay MP support between Xbox One & PC in social quickplay

Back in December 2016, The Coalition launched a a crossplay test weekend that enabled Xbox One and PC players to play against each others. And yesterday, The Coalition announced that Gears of War 4 officially supports crossplay MP between Xbox One and the PC in Social Quickplay.

What’s really interesting here is that according to that crossplay test weekend, The Coalition found out that Windows 10 and Xbox players had closely-matched results when comparing Average KD, Score and Kills per match based on skill ratings.

Moreover, over 90% of all matches during that weekend included a mix of Windows 10 and Xbox One players, and the quality of matches improved for both Xbox and Windows 10 users.

As such, The Coalition decided to offer crossplay support in Social Quickplay, and this decision will be permanent, with the first few months being a ‘trial period’ in order to monitor player feedback alongside data to ensure the Test Weekend was representative.

The Core and Competitive modes will remain platform independent as The Coalition wants to ensure its Ranked experiences are as closely matched and competitive as possible.

Still, this is great news as you will be able to finally play with or against your Xbox One friends in Gears of War 4!

  1. “The Coalition found out that Windows 10 and Xbox players had closely-matched results when comparing Average KD, Score and Kills per match based on skill ratings.”

Now that’s going to trigger some people on this site 😀

    1. And the questions are: Is there auto-aim for the Xbox users? How strong is it? Is it also present for the controller users on PC?

      We need those answers!

  2. This would of been good when it launched… But let’s face it. Games life spans these days are normally only good for about a month at best when it comes to Action games that deal with MP. Unless it’s a MP game people play a ton of like BF series for example on PC.

I mean who is really excited for GOW4 still on PC? Maybe a few still have it loaded on their PC let alone still play it.

    1. I play it. I bought this game for the crossplay, and it f*cking finally being released after all this time really grinds my gears of war.

    1. i played during the testing with xbox users and there is hardly any advantage for using M/K it’s a TPS and everyone just use the gnasher so you can change the name of the game to Gnasher Of War :p

    2. This game eventually turns into a shotgun orgy, and it basically a fair fight against k/b and controller.
Also, the statistics they got shows that both systems got “rekt” equally.

    3. it’s a cover-based shooter so skill not mater at all, because the genre is focused to please casual players. But classics like unreal tournament or Quake III arena are different, a controller have no room there.

  3. “The console players got destroyed every time.
So much so that it would be embarrassing to the Xbox team in general had Microsoft launched this initiative.
Is this why the project was killed? Who knows, but I’d love to hear from anyone involved – what happened?”

  4. this will end console mp if we are forced to play vs pc.there were no controller only server and console gamers were FORCED to play vs pc.

i will not buy gow5 this could kill mp games on console if their arnt any options to play with console only.

no console gamers will put up with it for long getting beating by cheating pc gamers we will just not buy that game any more hence it will end mp on console.

be careful with the pc/xbox cross play.
