The Witcher 3 HD Reworked Project 4.1 is available for download, adds new high-resolution textures

A few hours ago, we shared the latest version of the Super Turbo Lighting Mod for The Witcher 3. Well The Witcher 3 fans, here is something extra for you today. Modder ‘Halk Hogan PL’ has released a new version for his HD Reworked Project mod for The Witcher 3.

The Witcher 3 HD Reworked Project aims to improve the graphics by reworking models and textures to better quality and this latest version reworks Thatched roofs, improves the LOD for Novigrad’s walls, reworks bear furs, crates, scroll stacks, grain textures, hay textures, square braziers, simple wooden tables, moss textures and sacks, and adds experimental displacement to checkered floor tiles in circle near passiflora.

Do note that this mod is compatible with the Super Turbo Lighting Mod, so we strongly suggest using these two mods in order to improve The Witcher 3’s visuals.

Those interested can download The Witcher 3 HD Reworked Project 4.1 from here.

Enjoy!

    1. “4K textures” are a completely meaningless marketing gimmick name. Same with “HD textures”. It don’t mean anything. There’s no HD or 4K texture res standard, because texture size/resolution depends on the size of the object that it needs to cover. Texture mods generally increase the res of a games standard textures, usually by 2 or 4 times.

    2. There are, yes. However, using plenty of them will likely soon result in hitting the game’s texture limits (stopping the game from loading) that CDPR have shown no intention of lifting. Using Mod Merger may remedy the issue to some extent. Sadly, CDPR didn’t release the full modding suite for TW3 like they did for TW2.

    1. You’ve missed quite a bit of mod goodness. There is an impact when using Textures mods especially as extensive as Halk’s one here. I’d say about 5-10 FPS on GTX970 with i7-4790 and 8GB DDR3.

        1. Previous STLM version didn’t cause any FPS loss whatsoever. Version 3.0 however introduces quite a few features that were absent in the old versions. I haven’t tried it yet myself (got heavy into replaying GTA5 with a bunch of car mods but will definitely get back to TW3) but judging by what folks at CDPR message boards say it’s about 5-7 FPS. Needless to say your mileage may vary.

      1. Remember that Halk Hogan’s wonderful mod isn’t merely a textures mod. It also features higher quality meshes that use more polygons than the vanilla game. Any minor reduction in frame-rate (I can’t say I’ve noticed any reduction myself) will likely be due to that reason rather than due to textures (assuming one’s graphics card has enough VRAM, of course).

          1. (He was being sarcastic)

(Oh, & so was I, in my own reply to Brian, in case that wasn’t obvious, either)

        1. I mean, it’s not like you’re increasing the amount of information that has to be rendered on-screen at any given point in time, right?

          So, why exactly…….

          /facepalm.

    2. Mod creator says:
      “This modification reduces performance?
      It
depends on your video card and its VRAM, but generally modification
doesn’t reduce performance. On my GTX 980Ti (previously Radeon HD7970
3GB) I haven’t noticed any decrease fps and stutters.”

      1. Precisely. As long as a video card has enough VRAM to cope with using higher resolution textures then there shouldn’t be any frame-rate drops whatsoever.

      1. Funny, looking at the video the textures are barely noticeably better, and I probably have a more beefier rig than you do, but don’t let that hold you back from getting triggered.

          1. Shut up, 7th.

I wipe my *ss with your opinions, & then stuff them into your undies, so you can fart all over them. And that’s what I call, recycling!

            😀

  1. Wish someone would make a HD texture pack which doesn’t kill the colour of the game. Some of the textures make the game look very dull, lacking vibrance

        1. I’m laughing to the memory of CDPR’s attempted damage limitation when questioned by Eurogamer whereby they claimed not to see the downgrade.

          1. Yeah, their attempts at damage control were half-assed at best. He focused on VGX 2013 trailers and the switch from DX9 renderer (used on the screenshot above) to DX11 (E3 2014 footage and 37 min gamplay video) when he should’ve really focused on downgrading E3 2014 visual fidelity to console gobshite that is vanilla retail version that got released in the end.

      1. It’s way over-saturated and I actually have to turn the saturation down on my monitor slightly when I play it xD
Turn the saturation up on your monitor slightly — Witcher 3 isn’t super colourful, but I would never say it’s ‘dull’ 🙂

  2. “This mod barely looks better”. That is because youtube sucks. You can’t even get 1080p 50 mbps visuals out of their 4k VP9 and the less popular a channel is the more they get throttled on their bitrate. Logs look awful in vanilla Witcher 3. So do rocks and tiles and grain and hay and just about everything he has fixed so far except for the large burlap bags that are closed.

“Performance hit”. This mod has zero performance hit. It has a VRAM hit and the VRAM is still not high. If you have a 2 GB or under VRAM card you can’t use texture packs from almost anything. If you are seeing a performance hit you probably replaced GPU drivers since then or used CCleaner or something and lost the old Witcher 3 shader cache which grows slowly from zones and will be smooth in more demanding areas (like Novigrad) once you get there. Run around Novigrad for awhile and you will see those hiccups go away and the same goes for any zone.

Super Turbo Lightning Mod. Yup the new version DOES have a performance hit. 3-5 FPS past HBAO+. If you can’t run HBAO+ do not run it. The older version is a little faster than HBAO + was. If you ran SSAO you might be fine on FPS. You still have to have HBAO + selected in older versions though or you can get flickers.

The lightning mods and reshades (other than SMAA which is always good except MSAA and it do not mix) are all preference. So are DOF mods. Claiming they suck or are bad makes you look like an idiot. It is like Chromatic Aberration in this game. Some like it, some don’t. It also looks WAY better with SMAA injection and at 1440p to clean up some of the jaggies it introduces. The texture mod is something everyone should use though if they have like a 3 GB GPU or up and it won’t come close to 3 GB at 1080p. It does not change all textures just most of the horrible ones.
