Super Smash Bros Melee recreated in retro style on the PC, and is playable right now in your browser

Super Smash Bros Melee fans, here is something for you today. Schmoo Games has recreated Super Smash Bros Melee on the PC with retro visuals. It looks cool, it’s free, and it’s already available on the Internet.

The good news here is that this game is playable in your browser. This basically means that you won’t have to download and install anything at all. All you have to do is visit its website and start playing.

We don’t know whether Nintendo will take it down, therefore we strongly suggest giving it a go while you still can.

Schmoo Games has also provided the ability to download the game. And since Nintendo will most probably take it down, we strongly suggest downloading (and keeping it as a backup).

Have fun!

  1. For those interested in a good Smash inspired game, you should check out Rivals of Aether on Steam; it feels like the direction that series should’ve gone in after Melee (more depth and balance), whilst still remaining accessible to get into.

      1. It’s not “early access” in the same way that other games using that nomer are just barely held together alpha version that’ll crash at a moment’s notice. As far as competitive online matches go (or offline 4 player ones), it’s a feature complete product and – inclusion of two characters aside – has been since launch. Only thing left is the addition of a free story mode (and a potential guest character), which honestly shouldn’t be the thing keeping anyone from pulling the trigger.

So basically it’s where Street Fighter V and Killer Instinct were – except unlike SFV, Rivals is actually priced appropriately at a mere 10 bucks and improves upon it’s (spritual) predecessors.

Also unlike that game and Smash, it has a dev that constantly engages with the community to further tweak and balance the game. Every character in the game is unique and useful in a way beyond anything you’ll ever see in Smash as well, without it resulting in a complete lack of balance.

The game also supports practically every input method known to man; from your usual keyboard and Xinput for whichever Xbox controllers, to Directinput for anyone preferring the Dualshock or third party ones, and even native bloody Gamecube controller support for any Wii U owner looking to jump over from Smash.

No it hasn’t. This is just a SSB-inspired amateur effort with silhouettes that vaguely resemble Nintendo properties. Most importantly it looks quite bad, sorry. I doubt Nintendo would even care. Brawlhalla is another retro-styled game that’s inspired by SSB and looks much better. And it’s available on Steam already without any legal problems whatsoever.
