Here is what a next-gen Crysis game could look like

Crysis is a game that a lot of PC gamers hold close to their hearts. For years they’ve been asking for a new Crysis game and while this won’t happen anytime soon, we can now get a glimpse at what a next-gen Crysis game could look like.

Damian Stempniewski has been experimenting with the latest version of CRYENGINE and Megascans, and decided to share an image from his map. Damian used the palm tress from the first Crysis, thus giving the map a Crysis-feel.

As Damian claimed, this scene was running in real-time, however it was not playable at all, mostly because he enabled tessellation on all objects.

The end result is sweet and makes us wish for a new Crysis game (similar in scope to the first one).

For comparison purposes, we’ve included a beach image from Crysis modded, so you can get an idea of the graphical jump.

Enjoy!

“Next-Gen Crysis”

132 thoughts on “Here is what a next-gen Crysis game could look like”

        1. I just looked it up and was surprised to find that Crysis indeed belongs to Crytek. But then why is there no “remaster” for current-gen? We’re three years in and they have a fully compatible engine. What’s holding them back from making this easy money? The original game had to be downgraded to hell to run on last-gen so console gamers have yet to *really* play Crysis 1.

          1. Piggybacking on what Psionic said; yeah, Crytek still owns the IP, & EA still has the publishing rights under contract, as far as anyone’s aware.

Yeah, they’re too busy making Microsoft &/or Sony console-exclusive titles that generae them little to no return what-so-ever to make a Crysis Remastered Trilogy, apparently.

What’s holding them back? The same problem that got them into this mess in the first place, methinks; bad management. They’ve been choking themselves for so many years now, that it’s become rather pathetic, honestly.

          2. Homefront was sold mid-way through development, along with the studio that was working on it.

  1. I hope the next Crysis game isn’t another boring shooter, though. I hope it’s a first-person traveling salesman simulator. You go to an island and try to sell insurance policies to the citizens to hit your quota and get that bonus so you can install a pool back home for the wife and kids.

  2. Forget it… It’s just an engine demo in all glory, no console out there can handle that much tessellation and object detail not to mention other stuff like soft shadows, water and foliage detail, sub surface scattering etc. It will be downgraded just like many games we have seen before.

    1. Yes we need at least a gtx 1080 and core i7 6800k/i7 7700k or better for this graphics detail on 4k monitor at playble fps.

        1. The guy admits that turning on the tesselation on everything brought his system to a crawl. And I don’t know his specs but we’re talking about a work computer for a graphics rendering guy so probably a 2000+ dollar PC with multiple high-end GPUs in it. Crysis-type games (large, open levels) won’t look quite like that yet within the next 5 years.

          1. I know it’s a tech demo and it doesn’t have to look like that out of the box, you’re forgetting the very essence of PC gaming. Previously we used to had options that were not meant for current hardware, something that you can try but not necessarily enjoy until you have the right hardware, there is no limit on how much you can push PC because everything can be scaled (from hardware to software).

Now days you don’t get such options and developers lie with statements like “we pushed all platforms as best as we can” when it’s clearly not the case for PC, they don’t include such options because if they do then comparisons will be made and that will make consoles look bad, these days we only get versions that are exactly like consoles or slightly better if dev is generous.

If new Crysis will be released then I am sure they will downgrade it and won’t give any option to PC gamers to make it look like that or something even close because who wants to upset Microsoft and Sony.

          2. It all comes down to gamepad vs. mouse. You simply can’t make a shooter that’s equally engaging on consoles and PC.

If you make the game for PC first you can port it to consoles by simply making it easier. This works but it results in awkward slow pace as the console player takes longer to take down his targets and in turn gets hit more.

If you make the game for consoles first you get a game that feels nice on consoles but is completely boring on PC. You can’t make it “more difficult”, really, just more tedious. Upping enemy damage or health just means the player has to sit around in cover more often or abuse AI weaknesses more. So this time you get the awkward slow pace on PC, or you release the game in original form and PC players walk through it with no challenge.

There will never be a good multiplatform shooter. It’s not about graphics or anything like that. The hypothetical next Crysis will sink or swim based on whether it’s for consoles. If it’s for consoles it will play badly on PC as all console games do.

      1. not even on 1080p max settings or is it only 4k resolution that can not handle it? It has tasselation evrtwhere and 4k textures, right? I believe that at least on 1440p with a powerful pc there will be no issues. Not even titan x pascal and core i7 6950 x cant handle it?

    1. New consoles will handle good graphics. They have specs as good as average PC from Steam Survey:

Steam survey average PC (october 2016):
      – CPU: Intel 4 cores 2.3-2.6 Ghz
      – GPU: GTX 970 – 3.5 teraflops
      – 4GB video memory GDDR5 (bandwidth 224 GB/s)
      – 8GB system memory DDR3 (bandwidth dual channel 12 GB/s)

      PlayStation 4 Pro:
      – CPU: Jaguar 8 cores 2.3 Ghz
      – GPU: 4.2 teraflops
      – 8 GB shared memory GDDR5 (bandwidth 217 GB/s)
      – 1 GB system memory DDR3 (bandwidth 12 GB/s)

      Xbox Scorpio:
      – CPU: Zen 8 cores
      – GPU: 6.0 teraflops
      – 12 GB shared memory GDDR5 (bandwidth 320 GB/s)

If Sony and MS will create new console every 3 years then they can be as good as average PC.

      1. If sony and microsoft creates new console each 3 years then they will destroy console gaming because consoe gamers are not used into upgrading like us pc gamers and dont want to buy new consoles so soon. A high end pc has always been and will always been much more powerful than any consoles. Titan x most powerful gpu has 11 tflops already while ms will release 6 tflops gpu for console in 2017! Most powerful intel cpu is the 10 core core i7 6950x while xbox scorpio will still have a amd weak 8 core cpu(amd cpus are much weaker than intel even at same cores/speed). A high pc of 2016(core i7 6700k gtx 1080) alredy destroys both scorpio and pro in graphics and perfomance and a high end pc of 2017(like core i7 7700k and gtx 1180) will be destroying scorpio even more especialy since it will run on 5k-8k resolution too but scorpio cant. But even on 4k max settings it will since it will be running at 60+ fps in all games with 4k textures 4k shadows e.t.c

        1. “A high pc of 2016(core i7 6700k gtx 1080) already destroys both scorpio and pro in graphics and performance”

Developers don’t care about high-end PC. They design games for average PC because they want to earn money. If they try design games only for most powerful PC then angry gamers will hate they games because of “bad optimization”. Check what gamers say in 2013 about GTX 680 in minimum specs for Assasin’s Creed Unity. They hate that game so much that Ubisoft need to downgrade graphics on all future games to much weaker GTX 660. Graphics on Assassins Creed Syndicate was much worse than in Unity. You can’t go inside houses, streets are less populated and models are much simpler. Check compare from Candyland (YouTube)

          https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/29800db903628c3c7d5a8e8f71d95499ff953e8af9b57c89d071e0f4649e310b.jpg https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/039340ea0b835c7dcf648b9e1fb540c1d05c38da6278b42d2075275cc3d91c9b.jpg

          1. Man, you just keep on spouting crap. How can one person be so full of it? Devs DO aim for high end PCs. That’s why there are options in the menus that are expected on PC games. Ubisoft did not NEED to “downgrade” Syndicate. I can play Unity at 60 FPS with max settings now, and my machine is far from top-end.

          2. Most important are minimum requirements – they define design decisions in games. After Unity fiasco Ubisoft learn that gamers doesn’t want games with GTX 680 in minimum requirements. Now all their games including Watch Dogs 2 are designed for GTX 660 as minimum. New Watch Dogs 2 looks worse than Unity from 2013 🙂

          3. That was in 2013. Now that most pc gamers have GTX 970 or better there is no reaosn to downgrade graphics. Also dont forget that most of us at that time we were playing on 1080p monitors but now we are on 1440p(like me) so downgrade or not both games will look much better if i try them now due to my 1440p monitor compared to how they looked then. In 2013 i had still 560 ti and 1280×1024 while one year ago when syndicate released i had gt 970(just like now) but 1080p monitor instead of 1440p thati i bought since June.

          4. “Now that most pc gamers have GTX 970 or better there is no reaosn to downgrade graphics”

But still new “Watch Dogs 2” are designed for GTX 660 as minimum requirements not GTX 680 as Unity. So streets in town will be nearly empty like in Syndicate. Its sad but true.

          5. AI is mostly handled by the CPU, so you should look at that not at the GPU for population density.

          6. But on my 970 G1 GAMING and 1440p monitor on max settings it will look much better than on 660 with 1080p monitor and low settings.

          7. Of course you can change resolution or some small details. But you can’t change density of population. Current games from Ubisoft are designed for GTX 660 and that decision force low population density on streets. Minimum requirements are most important decision when someone create new game. We need not only better consoles but also better hardware in average PC owner (average form steam survey).

          8. 4.93%of gamers have a GTX970 (October STEAM Survey)… The “AVERAGE” does NOT have that or better… That is pure B.S…. The GTX970 and above are still consider “high end” gear. The majority of PC gamers are NOT gaming on “high end” gear… Just because the “most popular” GPU is the GTX970, it still only counts for under 5% of gamers… That is FAR FAR from average. You need to learn how to read and understand statistics friend. To my point… If you go to the STEAM survey and click on the line labeled GPU then you will see how low that majority of gamers specs are. I will post the top 26 GPU in use as of October 2016 (the top 43%). It’s pretty eye opening…

          9. Some people care about high end PC, and that’s exactly why we have so many UE4 tech demos, and damanding mods that turn ordinary looking games into extraordinary looking. But developers? I dont think so. Crytek cared about high end PC owners, but it was very long time ago.

          10. “They hate that game so much that Ubisoft need to downgrade graphics on all future games to much weaker GTX 660.”

            …….

The delusion is strong with this one.

          1. yOU CONSOLE GAMERS SAY THE SAME THING EVRY TIME A NEW GENERATION IS TO BE RELEASED, But you know very well that a 400 euros machine will never defeat a 2000 machine! (that how much a high end pc costs). It is impossible and it will never happen. Stop dreaming!

      2. Consoles have been shoving seemingly better hardware into their machines since the 360 and PS3 but they kept reaching their limit even faster. Many thought shoving actual PC hardware into the XBOne and PS4 will level the playing field but instead we see devs downgrading their games in less than a year after consoles launched.

The new refreshed consoles is one way to break that limitation cycle on regular games but let’s not forget that they are also designed for VR. Who knows how long it will take devs to start downgrading their games again. It’s like seeing a new medium spec gaming laptop that should be able to handle 1080p gaming smoothly but instead it is paired with a 4K screen.

        1. “It’s like seeing a new medium spec gaming laptop that should be able to handle 1080p gaming smoothly but instead it is paired with a 4K screen”

You’re right. I hope that developers choose 1080p for PlayStation 4 Pro and Xbox One Scorpio. Good example is Rise of Tomb Raider where games can choose between:

          – standard graphics + 4K at 30 fps
          – standard graphics + 1080p at 50-60 fps
          – best quality graphics + 1080p at locked 30 fps

I will choose 1080p at 30fps with all graphics to ultra. Quality is more important than resolution.

      3. Hardware wise PC will be always better, but I’m tired reading about another UE4 tech demo, while on consoles there are already full games with stunning graphics. The thing is, besides star citizen no one is willing to invest money into AAA PC exclusive that would take advantage of existing hardware, so all what’s left are console exclusives. And BTW. consoles are weak, but they run games with 30fps limit mostly, and 1080p or less. If you want to max that on my you have to own MUCH BETTER GPU. My 1070GTX it few times faster than GPU in ps4, and I still can max every ps4 game.

        1. I agree. Also Red Dead Redemption 2 looks great and Rockstar and Sony confirmed that first trailer was from Playstation (probably Pro). I think that RDR2 go to real limits of PS4 Pro and Scorpio.

        2. (GTA5) ? dude GTA started on PC there are a good amount of PC devs that make a lot of money just on PC like the ARMA DEV TEAM

          1. I remember first gta, but it was very long time ago, and back then games were made by very few people, nothing like now. Now AAA games are very expensive, surpassing even many big hollywood films. Sorry, but PC sales alone are not enough for making AAA game, and for this reason crytek is not making PC exlusives anymore. How many AAA exclusives we have on PC? Star Citizen, and nothing. Most PC exlusives are just indie games, notling like AAA games on consoles. Yes, I know QB is xbox game (not ps4, I type that by mistake) but still it doesnt change the fact, that it’s the most damanding game right now. WIthout upscalling (with upsacling picture is rendered internaly in 720p and upscaled to 1080p) you have to own titanXP for 1080p for 60fps. If you dont belive me just type this into YouTube “duderandom84 Quantum Break Steam DX11 Vs Windows DX12 Frame Rate”. As you can see without upscaling 1080GTX avg with 40 fps in dx12, and 50-55fps in dx11, and my 1070 is even weaker. Only titanXP can max out QB in 1080p with 60fps without upscaling, and this is xbox one game! I grew up playing PC exclusives like unreal 1, but realistically speaking this times will not come back, AAA games are way too expensive to make today. I’m tired reading about another UE4 tech demo, while on consoles there are already full games, and that’s the thing! You can have the best PC hardware, but if developers are not willing to make games in order to use that power, then that additional power is wasted.

          2. What I wrote was a fact, so no wonder you had to post some funny pictures, because that’s all you could do. Post that list of hundreds PC AAA exclusives (not indie games), I’m waiting.

          1. GTA5 cost $265m USD to make, and rockstar would never invest that kind of money, if gta5 was PC exclusive alone. GTA V has now shipped 70 million copies, and PC sales are just small percent of that. Thanks to consoles rockstar was able to make this game, dont you even doubt that.

          2. What.

P.S. “Media analyst Arvind Bhatia estimated the development budget for the game exceeded US$137 million, and The Scotsman reporter Marty McLaughlin estimated that the combined budget of the development and marketing efforts exceeded GB£170 million (US $265 million)”

Marketing budgets are completely separate from development costs, for the record.

            Besides that, again;

            What.

          3. You cant exclude marketing costs these days! Be so kind and find out how many copies rockstar sold on PC. The last time I have checked it was something around 2-3 milions. But let’s assume, they sold 5 milion copies by now on PC platform. 5 milion is nice compared to other PC game sales, but NOTHING compared to 65 milion copies sold on consoles alone. Rockstar had to sell 12 milion copies in order to pay for total development cost of this game. So if gta 5 was PC exclusive, rockstar would now be bankrupt! You can behave like a troll, and post your stupid “what” line many times but it will never change the facts! Developers are no longer willing to make AAA exclusives on PC. You can read about another UE4 tech demo all over again, but that’s it!

          4. The two million was an estimate of what it sold in the first month. SteamSpy has Steam owners at “Owners: 5,501,819 ± 60,184” but that’s nowhere near accurate either, as it doesn’t take into account non-Steam sales, of which undoubtedly there are many.

As such, there’s no reason to assume they sold 5 million on PC, they already have sold 5 million on PC, & then some.

            See, here’s the problem, as usual, people are grabbing onto the “PC vs. consoles” mentality, & just wildly slapping it onto the argument at hand without actually thinking this through, or breaking it down;

In this particular case, “consoles” applies to FOUR different platforms, vs. the PC’s 1, so first off, let’s be reminded that each of those platforms is a completely separate thing, & as such features its own separate development costs – especially the new-gen version, which required extensive renovation before release (most of which was later decompressed, & used for the PC version in turn, needless to say). Now, let’s take the official shipping numbers from ALL platforms, not just consoles (“As of 2 November 2016, the game has shipped over 70 million copies across all platforms.”) & make an estimate of TOTAL sales, across ALL platforms, rather than just console sales; 65 million.

Now, let’s take that 65 million, & divide it by 5 (seeing as there’s 5 platforms involved in this); 13. That’s 13 million, for the record, ergo, each individual platform, in order to hold its weight against the others, has to have sold $13 million copies by today. At this point now, let’s take a break & go back to costs breakdown; Development costs were an estimated total of $137 million across FIVE platforms, so needless to say, a PC-exclusive would have been considerably cheaper to develop. Hell, even just a PS4/XONE/PC game, rather than a PS3/X360 + PS4/XONE/PC game would have been cheaper, though of course it would have meant reduced income.

I won’t debate whether or not they’d have spent anywhere near as much on marketing, as there’s just really no way to tell; on the one hand, GTA is & will always be GTA, whereas on the other, we’re talking about a PC-exclusive, rather than a multi-platform title, so, f*ck knows. Either way, let’s say they’d have spent at the very least “a little bit less.”

Regardless, let’s say total development + marketing costs for a PC-exclusive version of GTA V were to come in at a total of around, say $200 million (assuming a slightly smaller marketing budget, & a considerably deflated development budget, what with them not needing to fund development & support for FOUR console versions, as well as a PC version.

Now, that’s $200,000,000 USD divided by $60; 3,333,333 sales…. Wait, what? Holy f*ck! That….. that would mean….. OH MY GOD! A GTA V PC EXCLUSIVE IS PROFITABLE! :O But…. Oh, I’m sorry, you were saying something about having to sell 12 million copies in order to recoup their investment? Alright then, that’s 12 million x $60 yes? So, basically, you’re claiming they needed to make $720,000,000 USD in order to break even?

Unless of course, you’re assuming they only get 30%-ish of each sale? Except, oh! Rockstar are their own publisher (with their parent company, Take-Two Interactive, serving as distributor), which means they’d take a 50%+ cut, rather than just 30% (honestly, they’re probably taking something around 60%, if not more, really, but let’s say 50%); 50% is $30, x 12 million sales; $360,000,000. How about doing $200,000,000 USD (development + marketing) divided by $30 then? Oh, look at that; 6,666,666 sales. Huh. What was it you said at the end there?

“You can behave like a troll, and post your stupid [asspull numbers as] many times [as you want] but it will never change the facts! [You just got owned by a guy on vacation.]”

TLDR: Has the PC sold as much as any other individual console platform? Maybe, maybe not. Honestly, there’s no way to tell, but then again, that’s not the point here; the point is, a GTA V PC-exclusive is HIGHLY capable of being profitable. As profitable as the multi-generational multi-platform GTA V Rockstar chose to make instead? Obviously not, no, but it would have netted them a hell of a profit regardless – especially so if they hadn’t first spent 2 years sh*tting all over the PC community by denying a PC version even existed.

Not to mention how making it a PC exclusive would have actually shored up PC sales significantly, since GTA is more than popular enough to transcend platforms.

          5. You can pay for game $60, but it deosnt mean that developer will earn $60 from you. Developer cut is much lower than you think. From every $60 video game sale, roughly 27 of those dollars go to the publisher (Ubisoft, or Rockstar), $15 goes to the retailer (GameStop, or other stores), $7 each goes to returns (games that don’t sell) and the platform (such as Xbox), and the remaining $4 goes to distribution and cost of goods.

If developers could survive from making PC AAA exlusives alone as you say, we would see many games like crysis 1. I grew up as PC enthusiast, but I’m no longer willing to lie myself and see PC as a leading platform these days. I bought my first PC in 1997, and I remember how it was back then and I have comparsion. We had many great exclusives on PC, and people were buying high end hardware each year (myself included), because PC exlusive games were pushing technology so fast and games looked absolutely amazing. Now you can buy high end hardware only to run some tech demos, or to play unoptimised console multiplatfrom games that still looks worse than crysis 1 (PC game from 2007).

      4. PS4 pro and Scorpio be the Base product though, and all games have to be tapered to run on even xb1. Same happened last gen, when Crytek even publicly said Crysis 3 was held back by ps3/360 limitations.

Tbf, no pc currently is running this in any decent way either.

      5. You actually have a valid point. Despite what the blind PC fanatics on this site will rebuke you with. Understand that I have FAR FAR more PC cred then I would say 90% of the people on this site (I’m 40 years old, have been gaming my WHOLE life and have been gaming on PC since the 80’s, I currently have five PC in my house 3 of which are SERIOUS gaming PC’s. I own over 700 PC games and my current main setup is an Intel i7 4790k @ 4.9GHz, a Pascal Titan X and 16GB of GDDR3 @ 2450MHz, I have 9TB of HDD storage and 1TB SSD… oh and it’s entirely watercooled… oh and I built it myself… oh and I built EVERY PC myself.) and with that being said I still have both a PS4 and an XBOX ONE. And I see the merits of both platforms. I am not biased or deranged like the idiots on these forums that call themselves PC-Elites but are simply arrogant noobs who THINK they know it all… Anyway… you and I will most likely be vilified for these views here… but we’re not going anywhere… Oh and back to your point about the current-gen refresh… You are 100% right.

        1. Dosent your 4790k bottleneck Titan X Pascal? You run all games at max settings 4k 60 fps with this gpu, right?

          1. no i dont think it will becuase i7-4790k is still a 300$ CPU and it’s not that old BTW i have the same CPU clocked at 4.7 i dont know how he got his to .9 it must crash a lot on him though lol

        2. The PS4 Pro called, it said it can’t even handle native 4K at 30 FPS until its 2018 refresh comes along; The PS4 Pro +, at which point a single mid-level Nvidia card will outshine it.

          D0h.

        3. I doubt a 40 years old man rage like this on a gaming website and use the term “noob”
your statistics are just as fake as yourself without a doubt
If you go watch some digital foundry videos, you’ll find ton of comments like this in it’s comment section, it’s a new form of cancerous ignorance and illiteracy, the main two guys behind the videos are just very very dumb.
basically it’s comment section is full of console gamers (as odd as it may sound since it’s mostly about analyzing optimization on different games , frame rate, gpu usage and etc) which they’re just waiting to hear the guy in the video says “PC looks better but not much therefore i prefer consoles” then they are down there fighting trying to make themselves feel better, it’s just pathetic and weird
If you can’t afford a PC, there’s absolutely no reason for you to have such a deep hatred towards those who play on a superior platform

        4. What a load of crap, 40 years old being a corporate slave means 40 years of being stupid. go back to forza articles and just like your bot friend Amiga, praise the game and thank M$ for making it.

      6. You forget 4k. That alone will retain the relatively modest graphics, when compared against PC, due to the fact that the amount of pixels for native 4k with increase the requirements for processing power alone. Tack on the additional VRam usage from the textures and you have yourself the reason why they won’t be console esque graphics for some time.

      7. Then why would anyone bother buying new consoles all the time, When they could just build an expandable pc in the first place.
Console makers are treading a thin line now, Expecting people to do constant upgrades with console refreshes to keep up with pc, May as well just get a pc.

      8. “New consoles will handle good graphics. They have specs as good as average PC from Steam Survey”

        So?

PC’s are upgradeable. Crysis (OG) pushed a lot of people to upgrade. Consoles will be crippled until the next release, on the other hand – whenever that will be.

      1. Without the support from PC gamers GTA would never be where it is now. GTA started on PC and the success it had there is what launched this franchise. R* treat the PC platform like a second hand market now, yet PC gamers still support them… It’s shocking!

  3. Is this screenshot from 4k max settings? With 4k textures and such? That how all PC versions must look now on 4k max settings on a 2016 high end pc! All pc versions must have been already looking like this! Let see how Space hulk Death Wing that is a tempral PC exculive and comes on December will look compared to this

  4. Crysis 3 was kind of fun, but 1 and 2 bored me to death. 1 and 2 had some good parts, but overall.. just sweet gfx and nothing inside (reminds me of a girl i know ;p)

    1. But pircay is almost over now thanks to Denuvo TItanfall 2 Battlefield 1 Deus ex mankind divided fifa 16 far cry primal just cause 3 e.t.c have yet to get cracked!!

    2. That’s what console gamers always say. It’s the same line used all the time, funny how its still the most popular gossip in the school playground among kids whose parents won’t buy them a gaming PC.

The truth is though that PC has more high rated exclusives than any single console does during a consoles generational lifespan of being stuck with a library of multiplatform games that are better on PC -and a small bunch of worthwhile exclusives that you can count on one hand; thats even more true now as that generational lifespan has halved compared to last gen. 😀

Remember when you all disliked PC because you prefer to own your games by buying retail instead of having to buy digital yet now digital is ok because consoles do it too? Remember how you couldn’t tell the difference between higher framerate and resolution on PC but now you all argue over it in console v console topics? Remember how all PC gaming had was mmos and free to play games and then you all went quietly insane for Destiny and free to play games on xbl and psn? Or when VR was “just a gimmick” but now PSVR is out its “AWESOME”! despite it being the worst VR experience after mobile VR and Google cardboard?

-I could go on but I have a feeling it would be wasted as you so easily choose to believe what people in the same boat as you will tell you. Believing that hides your envy, you’d do anything to defend the sentimental value of your favorite toy but secretly you wish you had a high end gaming PC.

      1. Add to that keyboard and mouse, free online we can use whatever controller we want e.t.c. ans from next year when 8k monitors release will be 8k instead of 4k

  5. If they are really going to make a new Crysis I hope Crytek is taking notes from the new Doom and Shadow Warrior 2 in terms of combat system. One thing that I’m not satisfied with the Crysis games is the rather limited Crysuit. It’s supposed to be a powerful suit of armor but it is nerfed by its silly power system that can only power one ability at a time for a very short duration and then leave you very vulnerable as it recharge.

    1. I believe that the balance of power usage was flawed (too much drain on speed and strength) and that “armor mode” was entirely superfluous.

But the idea behind it all was sound: The player would plan ahead to get the most out of the limited energy. It would be no fun if you have all abilities in unlimited amounts, see those Hulk games, Prototype and Infamous. You go on a few fun rampages, then it gets boring. Crysis used the energy limitation to introduce RISK to the formula. If you sprint towards the enemy will you have enough energy left to strength-punch him? If you throw this barrel will you have enough energy left to get to cover invisibly? Limitation is what makes it all exciting, it creates tension where there wouldn’t be any otherwise.

Unfortunately, the reality is that the average player can barely keep track of moving and shooting. He has no brain capacity left to plan ahead. He shoots while invisible, he sprints in armor mode instead of running in speed mode, he uses speed mode while swimming etc. and then complains about running out of energy. Some of this is down to unintuitive design (like strength being the appropriate mode for swimming – why?), some of it is the lack of a proper tutorial, but most of it is just average players not being intelligent enough to play a complex game well.

And that’s the real reason we never saw a true sequel to Crysis. Even after it was dumbed down for console controls people still looked retarded playing it. No other recent FPS exposes bad players like Crysis did.

      1. ROTTR has the best graphics on PC right now, and this game looks epic on my 1070GTX (texture quality is just stunning, and on top of that tesselation is everywhere), but IMHO even this game is not on pair with Uncharted 4.

BTW. watch dogs looks good to you? To me it looks rather average, IMO, gta5 looks way better.

        1. I played UC4 twice, it looked very good but I don’t think it has the best graphics so far. I honestly believe Crysis 3 looks better, especially the water effects and the likes.

Watch Dogs looks very good for an open world game.

          1. I was impressed by crysis 1 and crysis warhead graphics, but I wasnt impressed by crysis 3. I dont know why, maybe it has something to do with scenery change. Crysis 1 was all about junge and tropical island scenery, while crysis 3 was about urban jungle. I have played crysis 3, but I wasnt impressed even eyars ago (I had 680GTX back then).

          2. “I wasnt impressed by crysis 3”
Technical aspect of the game don’t care about your re*arded feelings. sorry but facts are facts.

          3. I have played crysis 2 with MaldoHD mod just before crysis 3 came out. What Maldo did with crysis 2 was beyond amazing, I have never seen textures like that in crysis 3 (POM and tesellation was used to the extreme in crysis 2). I was impressed when crysis 1 came out, and game run great even on my old 8800Ultra. It’s not like crysis 3 was ugly game, but after crysis 1 (and even after moded crysis 2) I was expecting far more from crysis 3.

          4. Yes, because this games use more POM and tesellation, than even crysis 2 and crysis 3 combined. For example this next’gen crysis tech demo is using tesellation and POM on ground surface, and you can see, that entire ground has depth because of that (it’s not just flat high resolution texture). But Tomb Raider on PC have similar look and depth on most ground surfaces (it’s not just high resolution texture with flat surface), especialy in the caves, where you can see small rocks, bumps everywhere on the ground (on even on the walls). If crysis 3 would look like this next’gen crysis tech demo, I would be impressed. Hell, even if crysis 4 would look like that in near future, I would be still impressed.

          5. Tomb Raider 2013 had that too. you only see one technical aspect of it and claiming it was impressing. none of them have real time GI which is more advanced than any other game out there but crysis 3 have it.

        2. Also looks the best but on my 970 i had to turn textures to high instead of ultra. But evrything else is on ultra 1440p. Far Cry primal with 4k textures on 1440p or 4k monitor also has as good if not better graphics than rise of the tomb raider

  6. He should’ve rendered it at a higher resolution…
And by the way, why such an odd res (1920×1013)? Did he crop some menus from the top/bottom?

    1. Aww boo hoo how sad that they focus on the thing that actually makes them the most money….I’ll go and play the worlds tiniest violin for you…Maybe try being profitable and you can have your own exclusives that aren’t MMOs

      1. You’ve been brainwashed.
Seek help of a good brain surgeon for quick brain replacement surgery.
Exclusive surgery just for your very special needs.

        1. Oh man that was a clever comment. Its so funny how most of you guys wanna make fun of or name call when people don’t agree with you.

  7. PC gaming has all the multiplatforkm games and all microsoft games. The only games that it dosent have are sony and nitendo games. and also njustice 2 and red dead redemption 2 but iam sure they will come sooner or later.

    1. yeah like vanquish,bayonetta,resonance of fate,virtua fighter v,red dead redemption,ace combat 7,soul calibur, etc…yeah LOL

      1. Those games you mention are from Platinium and Namco and were released at a time when both develoeprs were console only like most japan developers were at that time. Nowdays however that almost all japan developers are releasing their games to pc that why we are getting tekken 7 we got the new ace compbat e.t.c Who knows maybe these games might also come in the future for pc if they decide to remaster them some day.

  8. They say that they dont care about fps and resolutioon but now thery are fighting bewtween them about is games on pro and scorpio will be native 1080p or upscaled to 4k 30 fps or 60 fps e.t.c The sooner they realize that only pc can offer the best gaming experience for them the better!

  9. Exactly. The PC versions could look a lot better, even without any additional development costs, but they don’t, because then whiney console plebeians complain to their Microsoft &/or Sony overlords that the PC version looks “too good”, which forces them to put pressure on publishers not to make stuff look “too good” as it humiliates them & their antiquated, outdated, cheap-as-f*ck hardware setups.

    1. He dont need to worry about that. He can write mature comments, and I respect people like that. Also unlike you he is not triggered first, so I have no reason to behave rude towards him.

      1. I prove you wrong (even with pics etc..) you triggered and called me immature. First act like a mature then lecture others about how mature you are, idiot. now go back to neogaf child.

        1. I remember your amazing fairy tale about performance problems in ROTTR PC. Dips below 10 fps on your 970GTX, yeah right. ROTTR runs amazing on my 1070GTX even on 1440p, but even when I had old 680GTX (and that GPU was slower compared to 970GTX) I have never seen dips like that. But speeking about getting triggered, I will just report you because of inappropriate and rude behavior.

          1. That fairy tale has couple of images attached to it. if it ran amazing for you but you just say that without any proof, which one is like a fairy tale ? i know the answer but since you are a re*ard, i let you guess.

Report all you want kid (this is not your safe space gaf) and in the mean time, on your knees and do your job for free for your beloved corporate.

          2. Even if you would experience this strange performance issues in ROTTR for real, most people besides you never experienced things like that, myself included. Can you find any article on any tech site, even DSOG that would mention problems like that? No, because what you experience is just your problem.

I dont need to insult you because of your rude behavior, but I will just ignore you from that point.

          3. We don’t know about the number of people but it was a pretty hot issue on Steam forums in the first couple of weeks after launch. doesn’t matter if i find an article about it or not, most of news outlets also claimed that Forza 6 is a great port and runs great too but it’s not, it has memory leak issues, which means most of these outlets didn’t even played the game long before it turns to an slide show, at least Digital Foundry mentioned it.

You can ignore or insult me, i don’t care what a rat mouth idiot thinks about me, you started insulting me in the last article then i insulted you back, then you called me immature and you said we can’t have a mature conversation if you (me) use insults but so blind and stupid that you forgot it was you who started it. bye idiot.

          4. I had memory leak problems before in many games, for example in crysis 1. In all cases memory leak disappeared when I bought new GPU wigh higher amount of memory. Your 970GTX has just 4GB, that’s not enough for forza, because this game use 5,3GB vram on my 1070GTX and quess what, I HAVE NO STUTTERING AND MEMORY LEAK PROBLEMS (dips below 60 is different story but after tweking few options I can run this game at 60fps for 99% of time).

I remember your posts. I respected your opinion at first, but you didnt respected mine. You were trying to say, that your opinions equalls facts, and you ridiculed mine. You were very arrogant, so I insulted you for a reason and I did it just once. Since then you behave like psycho, you are following my every post and insulting me, while I’m relaxed towards you :). From now on I will pretend like you dont exist, and I will report your every post until you will get banned.

          5. Here is a thing dummy, my friend have a GTX 1080 and he has the same issue as me, Digital Foundry tested it on many configs on different PCs and they had the same problem. you either don’t even notice stuttering or you may have some unknown brain issues.

Report all you want kid, no one gets banned.

      1. Yeah until you prove them wrong, then they will insult you, then call you names, then they will trigger and report you. then nothing happens and in the next few months in another SquareEnix/Ubisoft/MS article they come and do the same thing over again.

They have a reset button built in them, sometimes it activate itself and they forget and start with their nonsense again.

  10. Zatara, when it comes to Crytek, please read interviews with them. Crytek salles was very good on PC only compared to other PC games, but it wasnt enoguh for crytek I remember reading interview with crytek, when they said what I’m telling you here. They made crysis 2 multiplatform, because they had to.

But back on our main topic, If I think more about it, I see hope in PC gaming. For example, If there would be no consoles in the future, PC game sales would sure skyrocket and developers would invest into PC exlussives again. These people who are buing games on cosnoles now would still want to play games :), and they would play on PC, and so they would buy a lot of games. I’m looking at consoles, and they are no longer one specification systems, they almost like PC (you have to upgrade them), and people may not like that in the long run.

    1. Cevat Yerli himself said Crysis was profitable. If it wasn’t, they would never have been able to make a sequel to it never mind two.

Then he turned around & started moaning about PC piracy, & how “it” was the reason why they just had to go multi-platform with the sequel.

I’ve read the interviews, I know the story. Problem is, I don’t buy this bullsh*t story, as I’ve seen variations of that same sad, pathetic excuse stapled across IP after IP in some form or another. It’s a ridiculously stupid “save face” excuse that idiots use to justify why they’re destroying their IP & betraying their communities for short-term profits, nothing more, nothing less.

Just look at Crytek’s subsequent behaviour towards the PC if you require more proof of it. Let’s exclude the Call of Duty gameplay they thought would be a good idea for a minute here, & focus just on the technical aspects; remember when they promised Crysis 2 would be a “true” PC game, with full, native DX11 support at launch, etc?

Except, that never happened. Instead, we got a watered down direct-to-PC port, & a DX11 + High Resolution Textures Pack 6 months later. Ergo; they saw the console money, f*cked off to it, & never looked back until we started ripping their heads off & putting them on pikes for what they tried to pull, & they’re not even the only ones.

The same stands for so many other AAA’s; there’s a distinct connection between IP’s going multi-platform, & a decline in quality in favour of quality, which in the long term has resulted in considerable degradation to not only the IP in question, but also the entire AAA video games industry as a whole, all of which was brought on by nothing other than pure, blind greed – the greed that came from desiring the additional profits one can only obtain from mainstreamed multi-platform titles, rather than quality PC-exclusives.

Now don’t get me wrong, i fully recognise that the multi-platform industry mindset has resulted in far more AAA games every year, but that’s also the problem; if developers were still PC-exclusive &/or PC-focused with the occasional console port here & there (ala-PS2/XBOX era), then we’d have less games per year, but each game would be of far higher quality, as it wouldn’t be about mainstreaming the IP as much as possible in order to appeal to as many people as possible, it would be about retaining & expanding the existing, established fanbase for as long as possible. Expand, but respect the roots, rather than sh*ting all over them, constantly & continuously.

I’m not sure how this “refresh faster” thing of theirs is going to play out on either end just yet (manufacturers & consumers both), as we’re not exactly talking about smartphones here, but for several years now I’ve been expecting them to move away from “video game consoles” in favour of “all-in-one” “media hubs”, & I still believe so, even with this faster refresh cycle.

As for how that’ll affect the PC; well, these faster refresh cycles are in response to many console gamers abandoning the console in favour of the PC after a few years into a cycle, so, who knows. Maybe they’ll help the PC platform grow in the end, maybe not. Either way, the PC will most definitely endure, as it always has.

  11. http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=499493

You wrote that Cevat Verli was happy with crysis 1 sales, but in eurogamer interview with Cevat Verli he say something different, and he wasnt happy with sales. They even asked him why he is not happy with crysis sales :). If crysis 1 would be profitable as you trying to say, crysis 2 would be also PC exlcusive, I have no reason to doubt that.
