Bandai Namco and Slightly Mad Studios have announced that Project CARS has sold more than 2 million copies worldwide. Unfortunately, Bandai Namco did not reveal the sales per platform.
Ian Bell, CEO at Slightly Mad Studios, said:
“The multi-million sales of Project CARS validates not only our revolutionary racing simulation, but also our unique World of Mass Development platform. From the onset, we believed that our groundbreaking way of funding games, alongside our commitment to working with our customers and listening to what they wanted from a racing simulation, would push us in the right direction.”
Stephen Viljoen, Project CARS Game Director, added:
“We’re really proud of what we have created with Project CARS. Two million sales shows that there will always be a place for games made with passion and craftsmanship. This gives all of us working hard every day on the Project CARS franchise an adrenaline boost as we strive to keep creating the games and features our fans want.”
Bandai Namco also claimed that Project CARS is the market leader in racing Esport: it is the featured racing simulator at the Intel Extreme Masters events in Shanghai and Oakland, as well as being the racing simulation of choice for Red Bull 5G, and ESL competitions throughout the year.
Project CARS is a racing game that featured amazing graphics, a lovely dynamic time of day and weather system, deep tuning capability, and pit stop functionality. The game also supports both VR headsets for the PC; the Oculus Rift and the HTC Vive.
Project CARS was featured in our Top 10 most optimized PC games of 2015. As we said back then:
“Project CARS is easily the most impressive – visually – racing game on the PC. Not only that, but it’s one of the few titles that saw noticeable improvements thanks to numerous patches, Slightly Mad Studios has managed to implement various performance improvements, slightly resolve the game’s CPU issues, and add some new rain effects that come a bit closer to those found in Driveclub. The game packs a lot of graphics options to tweak, supports a wide variety of wheels and scales well on multiple CPU cores.”

Still, the PC platform won him over consoles. That was mainly due to 3DFX and its iconic dedicated 3D accelerator graphics card, Voodoo 2. Well we know 500k were on PC.
That doesn’t account for all the people who backed the game during development. Those who did didn’t have to purchase through steam
I think it does. Everyone who backed was given a steam key right? if so steam spy can track that. its not perfect but 500k seems to be a pretty good number for a racer on PC that isnt sold by Codemasters.
It’s sad that the devs has stopped supporting this game
http://steamspy.com/app/234630
only 522,028 copies on pc
http://www.vgchartz.com/game/78627/project-cars/
1.04 milion on ps4
lol next project cars ps4 exclusive
It will obviously sell well on PS4, this is the only good racing game on that platform, Drive Club is a joke that even console players don’t want to play 😀 Even if the PC represents 25% of the sales, this is THAT community that made the game with the devs, so tell them “thanks” instead 😉
Community was paid back by devs. By the pay back amount over the year I made prediction that they sold ~500k copies. Was good investment 🙂 But when I supported project I didn’t even known that they wil pay us back from sold copies 🙂 And it looks like only PC copies count for that.
What, AC on ps4 is too difficult? AC >> PC
And as for the DriveClub: it sold more on ps4 only than Project Cars on 3 systems. Kinda contradict your statement.
lol sure, like any dev would shy away from 500k copies sold no matter which platform.
