John Romero has just revealed the new first-person shooter he is making alongside Adrian Carmack, called BLACKROOM. BLACKROOM is described as a visceral, varied and violent shooter that harkens back to classic FPS play with a mixture of exploration, speed, and intense, weaponized combat.
In BLACKROOM, players will be able to use fast, skillful movement to dodge enemy attacks, circle-strafe your foes, and rule the air as they rocket jump in the single- and multiplayer modes.
The game will launch with unique multiplayer maps, as well as robust modding support for the community to make creations of their own design.
Night Work Games has launched a Kickstarter campaign for BLACKROOM and aims to raise $700K in the next 32 days.
BLACKROOM will be coming to the PC in Winter 2018, will feature a single-player campaign that will last around 10 Hours, will feature three Multiplayer modes (Co-op, 1-on-1 Deathmatch and Arena), will have support for both mods and dedicated servers, and will pack a new Soundtrack by acclaimed metal guitarist George Lynch.
Unfortunately, the game is in really early development stage, and there is no gameplay footage available for it yet. And to be honest, this was to be expected as the team aims for a 2018 release.
Nevertheless, there is a Kickstarter video featuring John Romero, explaining the concept of BLACKROOM, that can be viewed below.
Enjoy!

Sounds good, and they are going to use Unreal Engine 4 as well. This game sure is going to look…sexy. 😉
Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it
DOOM or Daikatana?
the last part was unexpected
Concept and ideas sound awesome, the explorable maps with secret areas, the movement based skills, and just about everything in the description makes it extremely enticing for me.
But Kickstarter+No game footage will always raise a red flag for me after Mighty N.9, however, I’ll definitely follow the game’s development.
This is going to be amazing !
Now that sounds interesting.
you’ve got “Jonh” in your title! 😛
Definitely hoping everything goes accordingly to what they have in mind. This could turn out to be really great if that happens. Keeping my fingers crossed.
Hire levelord.
There is a livestream you can watch where they talk about the game.
He is about to make people his (Kickstarter) b*tches.
No freebies, no prototype, no beta, no advantages ? No crowdfunding.
It says on the page backers will get beta & alpha access…..
you are right, but this is still not enough for a kickstarter campaign when asking for such a price
This sounds interesting.
I usually dislike Kickstarter projects announced without a prototype, but this time I’ll bite. This FPS needs to exist.
Looking forward to seeing what becomes of this idea.
Well no because Doom was 20 years ago, it’s not like it’s been constantly making him millions for 20 years.
No he said if he gets the goal it will unlock investor funding he’s already got lined up. Lots of kickstarters do that. It’s too prove to investors there is demand for the game
Stick to level design, Romero.
And good, we need Games like Shadow Warrior etc.
Kind of wish they had a little more to show of the game to entice more backers. I’m sure once they start showing something it will be fully funded.
Sounds very interesting and the story concept that they are going with sound very promising as it will allow them to pretty much create all the possible different environments/game levels they can think of!
I’m in!
Hope it really is just for PC because like the new DOOM, I don’t want this game to ever be tainted by the other closed off systems.
