A lot of PC gamers were expecting Square Enix to announce today the PC version of Final Fantasy XV. Unfortunately, that did not happen. However, it appears that Square Enix showcased the PC demo of Final Fantasy XV’s Platinum Demo during that event and not the one for Xbox One or PS4.
As we can clearly see below, the controller that Square Enix used to showcase Final Fantasy XV’s Platinum Demo was not a PS4. We all know that the PS4 controller is wireless. Not only that, but the R1/2 and L1/2 buttons are completely different from those found on the Dualshock 4. In addition, there is no touch screen and there is no light indicator; two features that are supported in pretty much all PS4 controllers (original and custom models).
Here is the controller used by Square Enix.
And here is the Dualshock 4.
You can easily notice the differences between these two controllers.
However, we decided to go one step furtherĀ and identify the controller that Square Enix used. After taking a closer look to it (via the following image), we’ve managed to identify it with theĀ Logitech Gamepad F310. As you can clearly see, the R1/2 and L1/2 buttons are exactly the same, all the other buttons have the exact same colors, the Logitech logo can be hardly seen at the top center and the blue/black color of the gamepad itself is exactly the same.
This basically confirms the fact that the controller that was used was not the PS4 Dualshock 4 controller. We also know for a fact that the F310 is not compatible with Xbox One, so this rules out the possibility of the demo running on Microsoft’s console.
So now there are only two possibilities of what actually happened: either Square Enix faked everything that was showcased (meaning that this was just a video, though that seems unlikely) or that the team run the demo on the PC.
Our guess is that the Final Fantasy XV Platinum Demo that was showcased was running on the PC.
And then there is this ad from Gamestop featuring the PC logo at the right (probably an error, but still).

While he is a die-hard PC gamer, his gaming roots can be found on consoles. John loved – and still does – the 16-bit consoles, and considers SNES to be one of the best consoles. Still, the PC platform won him over consoles. That was mainly due to 3DFX and its iconic dedicated 3D accelerator graphics card, Voodoo 2. It’s pretty standard for all games to have PC builds. It’s simply faster, cheaper and more efficient than giving every developer to have a console dev kit. Likewise, showing off the PC build of your game makes sense when you’re doing presentations.
Sadly, none of these facts mean that a PC release is inevitable.
exactly, this was the perfect time to announce the PC version and they didn’t. still it can be released on PC sometime after the consoles but by then my hype will be dead.
They didn’t release information about a PC Version of FFXV most likely because they don’t even have a concrete date for it, they probably have a year for it, but no date, and since Uncovered FFXV was about the debut of the game itself platform in spite of the platform, the event was just about when the full game would be playable.
Yeah, that doesn’t mean much. Specially this generation.
I remember hearing (maybe reading in a news article here) about Dragons Dogma having a playable PC build since back when it was launched in 2012. And the consumer PC version just came out last January.
+1
Saved me having to type a longer comment.
Then again, after the last combat video (MayDevilCrySolidMetal), i’ve pretty much lost all interest in this FF entry.
For a presentation for a future game, sure, but for a demo that got out today, its not.
you are missing the point though. all games have a PC build, but their build is not updated this late into production if they are suppose to be delayed/skipped….the fact that they are showcasing it on PC NOW means they are either bunch of paid shills that are holding back on PC, or they will just reveal it later.
back in the days skipping/delaying PC made a little more sense…now though, not so much. they cant’ even use piracy excuse anymore.
They would have still used a PS4 controller, I mean Batman Arkham Knight was demoed on PC using a PS4 controller with PS4 buttons.
we already know FFXV has ran on a PC last year. they said it a few times before in their active time reports. they even mention it again durring windows 10’s DX12 show case for the Agni’s “Cry” Trailer. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ldk_6CzFcgc
FFXV will be on PC down the road.
is just me or the chocobo race on this video is at 60fps?

That scene (and others that were showcased at various events) was running on the PC
im really hoping for a pc release, i just played platinum demo and omg the framerate and screen tearing was actually making me mad. it ran 25fps or lower the whole time it was disgusting
given, like many others, i have spoiled myself with a 144hz monitor and a very powerful system but im sure console players can notice the choppy nature of the performance too right?
I guess pc version will announced in january/february 2017,based on what happen with type-0
SE already said the game was running start to finish on PC a few months ago and thats before it was working start to finish on consoles, There is no doubt in my mind that FFXV is coming to PC, its just a case of when.
please let it be true
They haven’t made a good FF game in almost 15 years, are JRPG fans really that starved for something decent?
If they don’t release for PC at launch these greedy japs can rot in hell, they already have preorder exclusive garbage.
this is nothing new. they have been doing that since a decade ago. they have to “help” the consoles to not “die”. maybe after 1-2 years only they will released for PC. this has always been the trend. dealwithit
Its coming, eventually! probably 3/4 months later!
goVEGAN
They already have the PC build. It is ridiculous for them to say they couldn’t do the console version and the PC versions at once, they are all run on x86 architecture.
The real reason is isn’t on PC is because either sony, ms, or both have a console timed exclusivity contract with squeenix. “Time exclusivity” is a dirty word so they just aren’t addressing why it isn’t on PC in an honest fashion. Lying pimps.
Yes please. I want to play the game at more than 25fps and 900p with Vaseline all over the screen.
what if it run on dev kit?
