Call of Cthulhu Officially Unveiled – New Details + First Screenshots Revealed

Focus Home Interactive and Cyanide have officially revealed Call of Cthulhu. Developed by seasoned studio Cyanide, Call of Cthulhu is an RPG-Investigation game with psychological horror and stealth mechanics, set in a deeply immersive world.

“On a mission to find the truth behind the death of an acclaimed artist and her family on a backwater island, the player will soon uncover a more disturbing truth as the Great Dreamer, Cthulhu, prepares its awakening…”

Patrick Pligersdorffer, CEO of Cyanide Studio, said:

“We are happy that Focus entrusted us with the development of a videogame adaptation of the legendary RPG Call of Cthulhu. As long-time fans of the license, working with longtime partner publisher Focus Home Interactive on such an original and exciting project is, once again, a privilege. We hope to offer fans the game they’ve long been waiting for.”

Cédric Lagarrigue, President of Focus Home Interactive, added:

“We are deeply honored to be partnering with Cyanide again. They’ve grown alongside us for the past 10 years, to become today one of the best independent developers in Europe. With titles such as Styx: Master of Shadows and the Blood Bowl series, they’ve proved their creativity and ability to offer strong gaming experiences in original worlds. Cyanide has been wanting to make a Call of Cthulhu adaptation for years. They now hold all the cards to create a game that will please fans of the Cthulhu mythos, as well as players eager for rich and original gaming experiences.”

Call of Cthulhu is powered by Unreal Engine 4, and is coming to the PC in 2017.

  1. Styx could have been scary if it weren’t full of crude jokes. The devs definitely know how to create atmospheric settings. But is it the same devs? The Styx sequel hasn’t even had a gameplay reveal yet so it’s far from done.

  2. “all of Cthulhu is an RPG-Investigation game with psychological horror and stealth mechanics, set in a deeply immersive world.”

    damn

  3. “Call of Cthulhu is an RPG-Investigation game with psychological horror and stealth mechanics, set in a deeply immersive world.” Sold me right there.

The best gaming news I have read in ages. Just my sort of game, I will really be looking forward to this one.

Loved Styx an excellent game given it’s budget and anticipating it’s sequel with equal enthusiasm.

  4. Looks good, but I’m sick and tired of stealth based first person horror games that doesn’t bring any gameplay mechanics other than walk and hide. I need combat and resource management in my horror games. The world is in despate need of another Dark Corners of the Earth, Silent Hill or Alien Isolation and not another SOMA, Layers of Fear, Among the Sleep, etc.

    1. It’s based on Call of Cthulhu RPG, just like Dark Corners, so I assume it must have some kind of combat system, as well as the sanity mechanic.

Also it seems like this is the same game that was announced 2 years ago, except the developer was Frogwares.
