Blackbird Interactive and Gearbox Software announced today the release of Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak, the newest installment in the landmark real-time strategy series. Developed by veterans of the franchise, Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak is a new, ground-based prequel to the classic Homeworld games.
As the press release reads, Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak is the story of a dying planet and a perilous expedition to save it.
“Take control of Rachel S’jet, chief science officer, as she leads a fleet of coalition forces deep into enemy territory in search of the ‘primary anomaly’; Kharak slowly seeps into arid ruin, but if rumors are to be believed, there might still be salvation lying in wait.”
Rob Cunningham, CEO of Blackbird Interactive, said:
“Along with Gearbox Software, we are thrilled to be breathing new life into the Homeworld franchise, something we are obviously very passionate about. We think fans will love experiencing how the Homeworld story began with Deserts of Kharak.”
Randy Pitchford, President of Gearbox Software, added:
“Backing Rob and the team at Blackbird Interactive so that we all could experience an authentic and passionately developed new entry to the Homeworld saga has been a thrill. When you play Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak I am confident you will feel and appreciate the Blackbird Interactive team’s commitment to the real-time-strategy genre as well as their reverence for the very franchise many of them helped to create as part of the original Homeworld development team.”
The game is now available for purchase on Steam for $49.99.

When I finish this big bag of crisps, I’m gonna fire this puppy up.
The suspense is killing me, have you finished it yet?
Also, why would you fire a puppy? D:
I’m only on the third level, it’s not bad, but it’s not worth its full price imo.
I fired him because he was late for work 4 days in a row.
I mean, the bag of crisps, how was it?
Bloody puppies, they’re always late.
Not the best, they remind me why I dont eat junk anymore. vida saudável 🙂
Not even junk food is made to be “good” anymore. xD
I’m a Vegan, so I rarely eat any rubbish at all (:
Ooooh if I was feeling cheeky, I would’ve made a comment about how you still eating rubbish. 😛
Joking aside, cool that you can manage it. I would go crazy without meat.
Crisps are okay, it’s the quality of them, I’m selective. As for cutting out meat, the positives were too many for me to ignore. Best dietary decision I’ve ever made, never going back 🙂
I can’t leave beacon. >.<
Aha I knew you’d say that lol love the smell 😉 But it’s the dirtiest animal, as it eats anything :/
I would disagree, the dirtiest animals are us humans. 😐
That is very true. +1
The game is getting great reviews so far. Seems like multiplayer portion is pretty weak and lacks content but campaign is rock solid. I’m glad Gearbox funded the game that allowed devs to work on the campaign. Before it was going to be a multiplayer only title. Downloading it now.
