Fallout 4 has been out for around ten days and according to Steamspy’s stats, the game has sold two million copies on Steam. These are great numbers, no doubt about that, and it will be interesting to see how long will it take to top GTA V, GTA IV or Fallout: New Vegas (as those are the most successful open-world games on Steam IIRC).
In other news, NVIDIA has not released yet an official SLI profile for this title (the new driver does not feature one).
Moreover, it appears that the modding community has already started experimenting with Bethesda’s open-world title. A reworked dialogue system has been released and ENBSeries’ creator is currently working on his ENBSeries mod for Fallout 4.
Oh, and as a bonus, here is the champ (Joooooohn Cenaaaaaa) in all his Fallout 4 modding glory!

John is the founder and Editor in Chief at DSOGaming. He is a PC gaming fan and highly supports the modding and indie communities. Before creating DSOGaming, John worked on numerous gaming websites. While he is a die-hard PC gamer, his gaming roots can be found on consoles. John loved – and still does – the 16-bit consoles, and considers SNES to be one of the best consoles. Still, the PC platform won him over consoles. That was mainly due to 3DFX and its iconic dedicated 3D accelerator graphics card, Voodoo 2. John has also written a higher degree thesis on the “The Evolution of PC graphics cards.”

It passed 2 million two or three days ago, tweeted by steamspy creator. It’s the three day delay for stat update that we’re seeing now
Obviously it is piracy and lack of using denuvo or online drm.
/sarcasm.
2 million steam, 10 million ps4+xb1, maybe it would’ve been 10 million on steam too if 89% of pc gaymers weren’t peasant f**got pirates
Tough im loving everything in F4….

lmao!

Having finished it, I must say it was a highly mediocre experience. Not a bad game by far, but nothing special. Feels more like an expansion for Fallout 3 than a standalone, top-of-the-line game. This engine has outlived its welcome (and no, no matter how much you claim it to be a new engine, it’s the same…). Bethesda needs to take it to the next level.
same here, can’t even play it anymore: wooden characters, broken lip sync and outdated animations totally take me out of immersion
So what you like?
This is not going to be popular but IDTech 5 engine would have been superior for this game, not sure what it would have been like on the modding side. Megatexture is much easier to work with ,you can paint on a massive texture for the whole map, not make hundreds of textures and to tile them together.
It’s also a question of what Developers are actually going to do with it though, even if they’re using id Tech 5/6. Just look at the new Doom; details-wise it looks fine, but at the same time, it’s a “good old” generic bland horrible brown mess.
Modding-wise, the RAGE Toolkit is highly extensive, they’ve purposefully dumbed down the so-called Tools they’re providing people with Doom 4, it’s not programming restrictions, unless they took certain steps in the Engine’s root coding during the transition from id Tech 5 to id Tech 6.
It would take the Team some time to get accustomed to the id Tech Engine though, which is another thing to factor in.
Also, John Carmack is known for it’s openness, he’s open sources his older engines, support for Linux.
I dont think idtech 5 can handle big maps, if you look at rage they put walls everywhere for the sole purpuse of not letting you see the textures streaming in the long distance.
Also 160gb.
Personally I think it would have done a better job, VRAM requirements would have been high for good reason, unlike the junk we got with Fallout 4.
honestly man the old blood runs bad for me.
MegaTextures + linear Gameplay.
Seriously, if Just Cause 3 can actually be as big as it claims to be, there’s no way id Tech 5 can’t handle something as “tiny” (compared to JC3 at least) as Fallout 4. Not to mention that FO4 has Loading Screens.
idtech5 is not made for open maps, even bethesda admited this.
Fallout 4 has blurry textures all over the place. The way it works is by loading cells ,each cell is a part of the map, all your interactions there are saved, the whole game is streaming assets as you move forward.
That is MASSIVE amount of data.
Idtech 5 games are massive in size, they stream massive amount of data as well, despite that they dont have good lighting, infact wolfenstein and rage dont even have dynamic lighting or object physics. On the other hand the modified version they used in evil within has both but the perfomanceis horrible. Ironicly early in the game there is a big village area that area runs like utter crap, the rest of the game is linear corridors and underground corridors.
Long story short just like fallout 4 has subpar lighting and textures, to have large maps, the megatexture technology has subpar lighting and textures and is not designed for open maps. The doom editor will not let you make open maps.
So no idtech 5 cant do open world games. Just cause and gta v are by far the best examples of really open games but your interactions are not saved. Where in fallout you can drop a item and go back and pick it up.
Megatexture has got nothing to do with lighting and Rage was a last-gen title designed with XB360 in mind. At least it ran at 60FPS :p
ET: Quake Wars had big maps, that looks pretty good for it’s time and used Megatexture.
the engine doesnt have lighting or physics it has megatextures that are dragged all over the map. Nor rage of wolfenstein had dynamic shadows or torches or physics. Evil within that used a modified engine and dropped megatetextures for umbra worked much better yet horrible perfomance becuase they bloated the engine
I dont get your argument regarding more vram, megatextures are gigantic which means more vram use, more hdd use which means ssd and more stuttering in big open maps. You seem to think megatextures load the whole texture in the map, nope rage used walls and textures did not render outside your fov, the same think happened in old blood which is not on last gen.
This idea you have about idtech5 is false. Doom 4 is idtech6 and we dont know much about it.
So i dont get where you coming from with this belief that for some reason idtech 5 can do things better when bethesda said that they tried and it doesnt work. Queake wars was a mp game like battlefield or delta force its not idtech 5 or idtech 6 that rage will be using.
I still dont get why you think megatexture or idtech 5 can somehow do open world.
I’m not going to argue with you, you’ve clearly made your mind up based on Rage alone. Any engine can be enhanced and extended by the developer, clearly Bethesda didn’t have the know how or the budget to do it properly. Rage released bad on PC, Carmack admitted that, they could have done a better job and they made a few patches to fix the issue, Creation Engine is broken anyway, can’t do physics properly over 75FPS.
“based on rage aalone”
and wolfesntein new order and evil within and wolfenstein old blood.
“Any engine can be enhanced and extended by the developer,”
As the above games have.
As gamebryo, sorry i meant creation engine has.
“clearly Bethesda didn’t have the know how or the budget to do it properly.”
They didnt have the know how or the budget to give it to 2 diffirent developers who came up with the same results.
Look man what you are arguing is a engine that is not designed for open world, Can do open world but the devs just dont know how to do it and you basing that in absolutly nothing other than you saying so.
I’m basing on the same thing as other engines. Cryengine has been modified greatly for Star Citizen, even some of the Cryengine devs work at RSI now, also other older engines have been greatly modified to work for much bigger projects. Fine, if Bethesda said they can’t do it with IdTech 5, I’ll leave it at that but the point is, like Cryengine if they had the right people, they might be able to because that’s what Star Citizen is doing with Cryengine.
“Cryengine has been modified greatly for Star Citizen”
How about that game come out first then we talk.
That was a cheap shot. If you’re going to have a proper conversation try something reliant than resorting to stupid comments.
Cheap shot? How so?
Oh i get it, you are too insecure, i am serious though, let that game or any game come out and THEN we talk, because we had enough “promises” and downgrades.Star citizen so far doesnt even have AA.
Personally, I doubt if id Tech 6 is anything more than id Tech 5 updated for New-Gen Consoles & Vulkan.
Really, I don’t think this is even the same id Tech 6 Engine Carmack had a vision to eventually create, once the Hardware side of things could support it. Granted, that’s based on just looking at what bits & pieces of DOOM they’ve shown us so far, but even so, they haven’t advertised any new “under the hood” tech, epic “new features”, nothing. Not to mention how Carmack the Legend isn’t even working there any more.
yup same thoughts here
all bethesda no obsidian.
The graphics are horrible and the pacing……power armor, minigun, deathclaw, base building…all this within the first hour of the game at level 1.
Yeah, the Super Mutants are easy to kill as well, in Fallout 3 I used to run away at the first sight of them if I was a lower level, but now I mashed through a load of them at Trinity Tower at Level 13, and I’ve not even got into the second level of my perk tree yet.
Rise Of the Tomb Raider XB1 exclusive bombed BTW, HAlo 5 sales numbers are not being released. LOL My guess is that Fallout 4 on the PC destroys both. Stacraft 2 Legacy of the Void PC exclusive destroyed Rise of The Tomb Raider sales.
“Rise of the Tomb Raider <63k"
^LOL
forza 6 was also flopped, less than 490k sales after all these months and all these ads. so much for a system seller.
12 million copies were shipped you moron, not sold. Oh yeah, how’s that exclusive XB1 Rise of The Tomber Raider selling? Well it’s not. lol.
Multiplatorm game destroys the console exclusives ,they may as well call TR, ‘Fall of the Tomb Raider’, along with the failed Rise Son of Rome and the Order 1886..
accroding to vgchartz order 1886 has sold 1.21 million, no matter how many digital sales you include wont reach 2 million.
arcanum?
Also i did the same about fallout tactics, that game is not fallout.
Arcanum.
where did you get the 10 million? Also your argument fails because there are plently of games that were uncracked and didnt sell well.
Look at the amazing sales of bf hardline on pc, nope, but hey maybe the fact that alan wake made its money back in 48 hours on pc and sanctum 2 console sales didnt even justify the port have something to do with it.
Conslusion “could shoulda would” is what killed crytek with their braindamaged arguments “hur dur this game would sell 10 times as much on pc because pc piracy” and the highest sales that company has ever scored were far cry, crysis and crysis warhead, the crysis 2 sales were a failure and crysis 3 sales was even worse, thank god for those console gamers am i right?
Piracy is irrelevant, most of the world has ways to find pirates, you are not gonna get money from poor countries if you stop piracy because they dont have the money, or the access to do so anyway.
When a uncracked game and a easilly day 1 cracked game sell much more than your average game, then clearly the problem isnt pirates but your game being bad.
Look at arkham knight, they protected the crap out of that game with denuvo, the pc version was so bad that they had to take it off steam. So the only way was to pirate it, it still didnt get sales while a day 1 cracked game that is actually well made and people care about sold like crazy and the same thing happened with very well protected games like gta v or witcher 3 that doesnt have any protection.
Infact ill quote the devs” we released a unprotected version on gog and the hackers took retail cracked it and put it on torrents?
There isnt any point bothering with pirates, they do it because they can or to show they can crack it, not because they would have bought it anyway. Look at hawx 2, uncracked for years, horrible sales.
Look at mgs v very well protected and barelly cracked, cant say it scores high sales, on the other hand ground zero that was pretty cheap got higher sales than xbox one sales.
pricing, quality, demographic. Copy protection is pointless.
:))
bigger version ?
i.picpar(.)com/x4Ab.jpg
great, thanks :))
game is dated in some places and have many problems but still i conviced to pick this up earlier next year, at least it is a single player game with tons of content and no crappy DRMs like EA or blizzard games.
of course stupid peasants like you won’t even bother to read the news but just the headlines.
1 12m shipped.
2 that also includes PC version.
3 game shipped more than what was the damand.
also how about divinity original sin or wasteland 2 on consoles ? each sold near 1million on PC but bearly 10k on consoles. lol yeah, go F yourself.
He thinks both consoles already sold 10 million copies between them, AAAAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHA
Inxile and Larian shouldn’t even bother. No one cares about turn-based tactical games on consoles (see Enemy Unknown failure, and XCOM 2 PC exclusivity). Even JRPGs are almost extinct on consoles.
