Electronic Arts has announced that more than 9 million people have downloaded and played Star Wars: Battlefront’s open beta. According to Sigurlina Ingvarsdottir, Senior Producer of Star Wars Battlefront, that makes this ‘the single largest beta in the history of Electronic Arts.’
That’s definitely good news for EA and DICE, especially since the open beta was not plagued by the ridiculous network issues that were present during Battlefield 4’s launch.
However, it appears that DICE has – once again – disappointed a number of PC gamers. After revealing that there won’t be any server browser, the official Twitter account of Star Wars: Battlefront confirmed that there won’t by any VOIP support for the PC version.
Instead, PC gamers can use third-party tools like Teamspeak.

In other words, no mod support, no server browser and no VOIP support. Apparently DICE is not concerned about Star Wars: Battlefront’s longevity.
Let’s hope that the next Battlefield game won’t be another step towards dumbing down its overall features.

Sorry dice. Not supporting you. Go back to Peasents and take this crap with you. TY!!!
8 million people thought it sucked and the other million are sheep and will buy anything “star wars”
So in your mind, the VAST MAJORITY (80 to 90%) thought the beta was really bad (not true), yet in your head you call the small minority the sheep? You’ve got it kinda the other way around in terms of what sheep usually means.
Try to browse through different gaming/news/tech sites & read user comments, so yeah 80-90% of them hate it. Judging by comments other 10-20 % are mostly Console users and in minority PC users (all aka consumer sheeps)
Plenty have concerns about the game, meaning many thought there are good things about the beta, and bad things about it.
Sheep is meant for the majority in any situation, so even if it were true what both of you are saying, you got it wrong, since what you are doing is calling the real small minority the sheep.
I for one hope the game doesn’t do well in terms of sales (but doubt it), so that maybe next time they spend so much time creating such a good looking and sounding game from such a famous IP like Star Wars, they’ll remember that to make a great game and even more money, you need to pull out all the stops, and give it a great single player campaign, server browsing etc etc etc
EA with Bioware already had a problem when they spent presumably the most money ever on creating a game on another Star Wars Title, that was SW The Old Republic. They knew however the Star Wars ip alone would bring tons of fans in.
Then they saw a chance to make some good money with a cheaper game. Heck the last Battlefield(Hardline) solo campaign was one of the crappiest ever and one of the things that brought down the game’s scores.
Also with the trend of shooters overlooking or ditching single player campaigns entirely like Evolve, Titanfall and also the new Rainbow Six and even the new COD Black Ops is ditching the single player campaign for the old gen consoles, and allowing PC and the new gen console players to skip all the misiions they want and just play the last mission if they want to, that’s just ridiculous and points to the solo campaign on that game to most likely be the worst one in CoD ever.
I hope all of this stupidity should come back and bite them in the arse with all these ridiculous decisions, yet almost all the big companies are doing it all at the same time, and know they’ll get away with it, as there aren’t great alternatives coming out.
The sheep i’m refering to are the millions of Star Wars fans that will buy anything Star Wars.
no server browser so how is that possible in 2015 ?
i mean i understand COD ….. etc raging kids in the lobby while you wait 10 min to get in the match .
but you DICE come one!
so i can smell the DICE Los Angeles touch here and thats bad…… please let DICE
Stockholm lead the PC version of SWBF
i don’t care thats bs in 2015
i mean i want to play on dedicated servers with “2” ping+my friends and thats why i got 1 GB/s internet speed to enjoy the most of it on dedicated servers like i do on BF4.
This game is dead for me. Casual and boring gameplay, no server browser, no ping identification, lack of content, overpriced cut-content DLC and more . F…K this game.
The Beta was fun but that $110 price tag for the complete game will put off a lot of gamers.
price too high for this game lack of sp really killed it for me ill buy cod black ops 3 after 4 year 🙂
Why do you want VOIP for a casual game. There is no need for server browsers, dedicated servers or VOIP for this game. Its very casual no team work is needed. Its a very good casual game. I don’t find anything wrong with it except that it needs a lot of balancing.
Also dedicated Servers need to extinct. They ruin the balance. Fast vehicle respawn, 24/7 Metro maps etc…
And thats how you kill a game people :O
EA sheeps will somehow defend this and that 100$ season pass just like they defend NFS’s always online bulls**t and delay. you may ask why game industy turns to s**t ? ask those sheeps who defend such a thing. now DSOG make 10000x more useless news article about EA, specially BF and NFS, make sure to post 2 a day.
I very much doubt anyone cares for voip. If you really want to talk to your friends you would be using a third part solution. This isn’t bad news.
They said Battlefield Hardline had over 7 million participant but go look how many ppl play it now after only 6 months : only 1,000 and over 30,000 play bf4
whats the up roar about most pc gamers use team speak any way?and your happy about 9 million downloads across 3 platforms?25,000,000 ps4 sold,15,000,000 xbox ones sold, and 125,000,000 steam users and you are happy about 9 million FREE beat downloads?
we will see how may people buy this bare bone multiplayer online only game with a $50 season pass.ill say 1,000,000 sold at least.
I really freaking enjoyed the beta, I really did. I was looking forward to having 2-3 man squads that I usually run in Battlefield, keeping it tight and working together.
But just like eVolve, they decided to f’ with the PC community and ignore basic features that made gaming great in the first place. So again EA, just like with Hardline and Titanfall I’m going to play it for 5 days, return it for a full refund and never touch it again.
