All hell broke loose yesterday when we posted a story regarding some talks between EA and CD Projekt RED. Even though our source claimed that these talks could be about a possible buyout, we were the first to say that this scenario seemed unlikely. And today, CD Projekt RED issued an official announcement about this.
As CD Projekt RED’s co-founder Marcin Iwinski claimed:
“We usually don’t comment on rumors, but this one has become quite viral and we think it deserves to be put to bed: we are not talking with anyone regarding selling CD PROJEKT RED or GOG.com. Period. And the payslip is a fake – it was not issued by our company.”
What Marcin made crystal clear is that both CD Projekt RED and GOG.com will not be sold to other companies. Which is definitely good news.
However, Marcin did not debunk the whole rumor. It appears that everyone has been concentrating on the buyout (for their own reasons. After all, an article that focuses on the buyout instead of the general talks between EA and CDPR will generate more clicks). Marcin did not debunk the rumors about the talks between EA and CD Projekt RED. Just that they are “not talking with anyone regarding selling CD PROJEKT RED or GOG.com.”
Not only that, but CD Projekt RED’s Benzenzimmern basically confirmed that people from EA can/do visit the studio.
Bottom line is that CD Projekt RED will stay independent. It’s also crystal clear that its fans want the studio to stay independent. Moreover, our previous story proved that gaming websites will focus on certain things instead of the whole story.
There was a reason we: a) marked our previous story as a rumor, b) suggested twice taking everything you read with a grain of salt and c) tried to calm everyone down about the buyout as we said that it was unlikely.
But then again, we’ve never been credible.

Well yeah of course it was just a fake rumor. Their current actions just doesn’t line up with them wanting to sell out. Their business strategy seems to be that of wanting to become a huge success independently. I found it quite sad and dumb how so many people were already saying “it’s the end of CDPR”, taking the whole rumor as gospel. Seriously, don’t you guys have a brain? And DSO, yes you claimed it’s a rumor but you also implied Marcin was lying when he said they aren’t selling by likening to situation to him lying about the graphics downgrade. Lying about graphics does not equal lying about a takeover. It’s a completely different situation.
I’m not trying to sound like some shill or anything but imagine you in CDPR shoes and you go on the internet, see all your fans claiming you’re a sellout JUST because of some rumor and completely disregard everything you’ve done and the hard work you put in for them. That would make me really sad tbh.
Anything can happen daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
Nah people who actually believed EA were buying them are just dumb tbh
No one would have consider this meaning a buyout if CDPR had been clearer regarding TW3. Their LIES about its downgrade and mod tools are why they’re on the spot right now.
Thank Goodness
A couple of days ago they were talking about how much money they made with TW3…it was silly just to think that they would sell to someone else.
Thanks god
I’m happy that EA won’t be buying them but I would have been happier if they said they won’t be getting in bed with EA at all. Even having them as a publisher is a terrible choice if that is the case. I’m amazed anyone still wants anything to do with them.
They’re essentially self published. From what I read, all they do with EA is put some of their games on Origin, nothing else.
If they were honest with the audience, no one would even think about it, but they weren’t. Whatever comes out of their mouths will be taken with a grain of salt.
There is no downgrade. Period. Oh, wait…
“It’s all about Youtube compression” He sayed
Lmao
I think EA’s asking CDPR to collaborate on a new game. CDPR’s been creating RPG’s for a long time and EA’s invested in RPG’s
you probably shouldn’t have even posted the rumour in the first place….
now you’re going to have every idiot knocking up wage slips and sending you their ridiculous stories.
they needed the clicks and views for the moneh to survive..
I have to call you out DSO..as much as you told people to take it with a grain of salt you did also point out that they weren’t forthcoming about the downgrades..implying that their word(pr) should bot be taken at face value.
Add that and accept that you alos played a part in wanting the rumor to blow up.
The story seemed out of place. Before I even read it I was doubting it.
It will happen, sooner or later…
i hoe WB buy this Franchiese and implement better fighting system
