The Astronauts has just announced that the Unreal Engine 4 version of The Vanishing of Ethan Carter is now available on Steam and GOG. This new version, called Redux, is available for free to all those already owning The Vanishing of Ethan Carter.
The Vanishing of Ethan Carter Redux features a new save system, invisible or barely visible streaming of new areas, a tweaked section of the game since some players found it too scary and/or too exhausting, as well as various graphics tweaks and enhancements.
However, this new version of The Vanishing of Ethan Carter comes with higher PC requirements. The Vanishing of Ethan Carter Redux requires at least a 64-bit Windows OS and 6 GB of RAM. Those with 4GB of RAM will have to keep playing the game’s UE3 version.
The Vanishing of Ethan Carter Redux comes with a 40% discount on Steam for the next 45 hours, meaning that you can get it for 11,39€.
Enjoy!

Id like to see some comparison screens if anyone has any. This news makes me want to reinstall TVOEC but I have a crap internet speed so I want it to be worth it hehe.
There will be. Until then you can check out the UE3 vs UE4 on youtube, though it’s from the PS4 version.
I just tried both versions. They’re very similar. The biggest and perhaps only thing I’ve noticed is the lighting is better in the UE4 version. It isn’t surprising because all they did was port it over to UE4, change the saving system, improve asset loading and removed the need to backtrack while playing. It would look a lot better if it was made for UE4 from the ground up.
Thanks Anaron
Game is pretty much similar in graphics, some new U4 features, but Biggest difference is “under the hood” Great thing with this version is that you can extract EthanCarter-WindowsNoEditor.pak and easily mod the entire game in U4 editor 🙂
Game loads with extracted uasset files without U4 pak file, and you can import them to 4.9 editor and MOD “the hell” out of the game 🙂
Downloading it now.
Finished this with my gf. She kept on falling asleep lol.
Why did u force her to sit with u thn?! 🙂
cause I’m an a*s lol
Can’t blame her. I found the game incredibly boring, despite the amazing visuals.
I stopped playing the moment I found that stupid puzzle underground. I couldn’t be arsed to, uninstalled.
This is a very welcome update. I played the first few sections of The Vanishing of Ethan Carter but I couldn’t get over the constant stuttering. Texture streaming was an issue with many Unreal Engine 3 games so let’s hope Unreal Engine 4 works better.

Nice!
What about VR support? With UE4 integration, it should be easier to add it….
EDIT: I already found it:

Great news.
4k 60 FPS nice optimization for a GTX 680 2GB
a tweaked section of the game since some players found it too scary and/or too exhausting
Don’t want a horror game less scary.
“a tweaked section of the game since some players found it too scary and/or too exhausting”
Haha wut? Are they seriously changing gameplay because few people complained about it? It’s like Lucas going back and editing movies to change or ‘improve’ them. He would never do such a thing.
Also, this is a horror game. They are tweaking a horror game for people who got scared of it..
