Need for Speed Officially Revealed, Coming To Current-Gen Platforms, First Details + Teaser Trailer

Ghost Games announced today the return of Need for Speed in a full reboot of this storied franchise. The game aims to deliver on what the fans want, and what Need for Speed stands for – deep customisation, authentic urban car culture, a nocturnal open world, and an immersive narrative that pulls you through the game.

Marcus Nilsson, Executive Producer at Ghost Games, said:

“Need for Speed is one of the most iconic names in gaming, and we’re returning it to greatness in this reboot. Pulling on our 20 years of history, and then taking a year out from releasing a game, we are making the game we’ve always wanted to. We’re listening to the fans and delivering an experience that will capture their imagination and unleash their passion for cars and speed.”

Fuelled by EA’s own car culture community, Speedhunters, Need for Speed promises to deliver an experience that’s grounded in authentic car culture by diving into the rich world of past, present and emergent trends of the urban car scene. This collaboration with Speedhunters in the research and development of the game means the level of detail and real-world authenticity will envelop gamers in an exciting world to discover and enjoy in a way that only Need for Speed can deliver.

The full trailer for Need for Speed will be unveiled on June 15th.

Need for Speed will be powered by the same version of the Frostbite engine that powers Star Wars: Battlefront, and will launch this Autumn on PC (via Origin), PS4 and Xbox One.

Enjoy!

  1. WOW, that looks very realistic but more DLC milking incoming. Really hard to get excited about games by EA & Ubisoft these days. Despite them showing some amazing trailers we all know the end products will never ever turn out the way that they are presented. At release I expect to see bugs, online issues, downgraded visuals, weak gameplay, dlc milking and thinking about all these potential issues just dampens my enthusiasm for their games.

    1. Nowadays i get excited with things with more….eh…, flesh, but ok videogames are a good sustitute of other cravings.

  2. At the fist 10 seconds i still had hopes it would be a N4SU3.
After that, i was almost sure it would be a N4SMW2.
Finally, i perceived that it was just a medium-to-high video, without the soul of old Underground games or the original Most Wanted under it’s hood. For what they showed until now, this “return to the roots” is empty and unworthy the title. thumbs down

      1. Joke? Joke is this video!
I saw N4SU2 AND the original N4SMW teaser trailers at that time before their launches, so yes… i think i can say a word or two about this one.

First thing: Underground never had pursuits. Second: original MW is based on a historyline and the new one looks driven somehow to online experience (online is sooooo needed in modern games, marketing guys of game´s industry may be thinking). Personaly, i would bet in a mashup of Hot Pursuit+MW2012+The Crew.
You know, people complain that EA is unable to do a good NFS anymore, but fact is that N4SU and N4SMW were based on Fast&Furious and Gone in 60s movies. And since F&F franchise lost it´s original way and 60s never released a 2nd part, their respective game counterparts shared the same fate.
As for you, comrade, have you been there at the golden age of this franchise too? You know what i´m talking about? Or you have no idea of the clear emptiness of context presented now? And let´s clear, i´m talking about the concept of the teaser. I can´t say anything about a game that´s far from being released yet. But if at this video could be found only a single hint about a true sequence to the classics, people would be hyped right now. Everyone would! And it´s not the case ¬¬

        1. I’ve played NFS:U and NFS:U2 extensively so I know what makes a NFS game good. I’ve also played NFS:MW which is arguably the last great NFS game. The more recent ones come close but they lack something that the previous games had.

Anyway, the addition of pursuits wouldn’t make it a bad game. Everything shown in the video is what we know though. We can’t draw conclusions based on that limited information. Will it have an online component? It’s safe to assume that it will considering the fact that previous NFS games did, including NFS:U and NFS:U2 (albeit only on the PS2).

I’m beginning to think that you’re feelings of nostalgia is clouding your perception of this game. It won’t be NFS:U/U2 with updated graphics. It’s going to be a bigger game but that’s assuming it’s a sequel. It could be called something other than Need for Speed: Underground 3. So no, it isn’t a joke. It’s just a bloody teaser video. We’ll know more when the developers reveal the full trailer and give us more details about the game. For now, we can only hope that it lives up to our expectations of what makes a NFS game good.

          1. Simplifying our dialog (let’s title it as “The Lack of Underground Most Wanted Inside a Teaser”):
            – “You know what i´m talking about? Or you have no idea of the clear emptiness of context presented now?”
            – “The more recent ones come close but they lack something that the previous games had.”
            Agreed, tks 🙂

    1. Hard to get excited for Ubi and EA games these days. Can’t wait to see butchered version of The Division at E3.

  3. Downgrade confirmed!
LOL, but if they claim this was in-engine, no way will the game look like this with consoles hindering the devolopment!

  4. For me, NFS has never been about “deep customization, authentic urban car culture, a nocturnal open world, and an immersive narrative that pulls you through the game.” NFS is about driving exotic, rare, and expensive cars around the most beautiful locations in the world including mountain summits, valleys, countrysides, forests, ridges, and deserts, and not some generic city environments with even worse characters. I don’t remember an even single character from the last couple of games, but I very well remember the almost unbeatable “Ice” from NFS 3: Hot Pursuit. Damn that purple Lamborghini Diablo SV…
