YouTube’s “ImAnderZEL” has shared ten minutes of gameplay footage from the PC version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, running at Ultra settings. ImAnderZEL was invited by CD Projekt RED to play the latest build of the game in Poland, and the PC that was used was equipped with a single GTX 980. Oh, and in case you’re wondering: yes. The LOD values are a bit underwhelming for “Ultra settings” as there are a lot of pop-ins. Enjoy!

So they said they were saving up Ultra settings till release….yet this looks just like all the other gameplays.
Pity it got downgraded, no more wow factor like the early trailers had.
That early stuff wasn’t proper gameplay and looks always better because it’s meant to show off. Some things actully look better now.
It was a proper gameplay and Witcher 2 looked better and better with every trailer. It wasn’t a show off. Change of direction? Yes. False marketing? May be. Downgrade? May be yes, may be no. That said, yes that’s true that a lot of things have been improved as well, character models for example or foliage simulation etc. The game still looks amazing.
Developers on their official forums have stated several times that you would be able to fully replicate the graphics from the early trailers.
Haven’t heard that before..
http://forums.cdprojektred.com/threads/32644-Obvious-Downgrade/page282
Question: “Can the scenes in the VGX/SoD trailers be replicated in their graphical fidelity integrity on high end PCs when the game finally launches?”
Reply from developer: “Yes”
Yet i read forum posts by the devs not long ago stating you could replicate how the game looks in the early trailers like the VGX one.
Not really that impressed with ultra, it looks good but by no means “jaw dropping” the texture works aren’t as sharp as i would expect, the pop in is ridicolous as it was in the witcher 2, and it isn’t certainly because of the “Huge” open world, the world is actually split in a few “open worlds” I think it looks more or less like dragon age inquisition or far cry 4 ( yes cross gen titles) and i would be disappointed if a gtx 660 listed in their “minimum requirements” isn’t able to run it at 1080p/30 fps with high settings (weaker aa and no nvidia gimmicks) The disparity between the early trailers and what we are getting could be compared to the disparity between the witcher 2 on pc and xbox 360.
And the vegetation does look underwhelming compared to some other recent titles (shadow of mordor i’m looking at you)
But comparing the complexity of The Witcher 3 world/environment against the dull looking environment of Mordor, is not surprising that they can put some more higher textures here and there, as well as better foliage. (even though textures in Shadow of Mordor are not that “jaw dropping” in my opinon)
Agreed, certainly more details on screen on the witcher 3. Mostly i’m looking at the ground textures between the two titles, Shadow of mordor ground textures are really good in my opinion, while in the witcher 3 they could be compared to the witcher 2 with the sharpening filter on. Don’t know if it is a design choice or not to make the textures look like that. In the witcher 3 i’ve been really impressed by the trees, they look natural and quite realistic and by the character models, really detailed pieces of art.
Youtube is no way a place to show ultra setting gameplay. I made an video of GTA V and uploaded it to youtube. Original is crisp clear awesomness the other one is just a messy fuzzy hell.
Really?..I didn’t think Shadow of mordor vegetation looked that good..Witcher 3 on the other hand looks a amazing the weather effects and that lighting is just mind blowing..the amount of work CD project has put into this game is remarkable
Didn’t really complain about the lighting/weather effects, did I? Yes they do look good.
It looks amazing
That’s couse it’s not 1440p or 4k bro. It’s really up to you. I would definitely be running this in 4k on 2x 980 watercooled.
If you’re a hardcore gamer, then you have to respect yourself.
I’m also smart enough not to believe those nvidia biased requirements aimed to milk costumers….. (i’m an nvidia user myself btw)
Also, 4k doesn’t make game assets magically better….if anything it makes you notice rendering mistakes and whatnot. Games are not yet ready for 4k.
no they’re not ready yet. There hasn’t been yet invented a 4k pls that delivers. With that said, 2k is still a pretty sweet option for gaming. I’m aiming to buy a 4k projector, I just don’t know if I want to throw away my money like that. I already own a 1080p projector.
Exactly my thoughts.
No its not rly like dragon age though there are 2 maps yes but each one is comparable to skyrim in size one is slightly larger and one is slightly smaller
i believe it is 4 maps, won’t write which ones to avoid spoiling it to some people, if you’re interested search some news sites, they even showed the map.

I knew it. RED didn’t disappoint in optimizing a games as always.
STEAM dayONE 4k FTW
Witcher 2 ran on a variety of configurations really well, you just had to configure the settings according to the capabilites of your hardware.
However i remember that at launch the game would run badly because of the nvidia 3d drivers and you had to uninstal the 3d drivers to play 😀 good times
The requirements were way off though.
it will surely be the same with this one. a gtx770 paired with an i7 will run the game at mid-high settings 1080p/30fps? won’t believe it until i see it.
Yep. At the beginning. Ubisoft still has crappy perf years later of its game release.
A 980 ultra settings means good news to me
I’ll rise your 10 minutes with a 46 minutes from AngryJoe with even more gameplay and a boss fight.

I wonder if we could have a 1st person mod in the future.
And no, not from Steam.
Steam is starting to be annoying. Charging for mods? Really?
Yeah, I personally don’t think it’s a good idea, but then I don’t make mods either.
first person in a witcher game? no this isnt skyrim
It’s on PC, anything is possible. If one is made for it, just don’t install it…
so if its possible where is the first person mode on witcher 1 and 2?
“If one is made for it”
I wanted to see this so much. I will be running this with x2 gtx 980 sli. 🙂
When he is underwater and heading into the water surface the animation is AWFUL.
i dont know what to think about the game. The… “cant be possible factor”, because “next gen” consoles may played a big role on this one
I thought the same thing about the animation. In fact after playing GTA V, TW3’s water and underwater areas (in addition to the swimming animation) look terrible in comparison.
Couple of points I want to make…
Firstly, this video is a blurry mess even in 1080p. Not sure how can anyone judge textures based on it.
Secondly, I seriously doubt this is pure Ultra. REDs have said a couple of times that all recent media (trailers, gameplay, screenshots) have been captured using a mixture of High and Ultra settings. That includes Youtuber’s footage from the recent event. You can even tell the game is using SSAO instead of HBAO+ in this video. I think this guy either misunderstood someone, or he just put a buzzword to get more views.
Thirdly, if you were expecting no noticeable LOD switching in a game of this density, you were fooling yourself.
It’s not supposed to be Ultra settings, since the youtubers played the same january(outdated/early version) build like the journalist on the hands on event.
I told you guys that there won’t be a day and night difference between High and Ultra. I said that shadows will be sharper, textures will be a bit better, there will be more draw distance etc but nothing ground breaking. Fanboys didn’t believe that. Anyways,,, as I mentioned before, the game still looks epic and puts a lot of linear games to shame.
And you’re judging that with a you tube compressed video, haters never gonna change.
Youtube doesnt lower graphical settings.
Let him live in his fairy land.
Youtube compression doesn’t allow you to compare anything (specially smaller details), my point ? the game isn’t lacking anything that people previously complained about, the ground/walls look flat ? No. The game lacks GodRays/Volumetric clouds ? No. As for foliage quality we can actually wait for the game to compare it instead of judging on Youtube videos. If anyone is expecting that switching to Ultra will make it like some initial screenshots then they are wrong because CDPR admitted that they changed lighting in order to implement more living/dynamic foliage (see night storm part in video). Also this is not the final build of the game, we have already seen how much it differs in different builds.
wow big prediction lol, name a game where there is a day and night difference between the highest and second highest setting ?
I think the downgrade is confirmed. Looks not much difference with consoles version.

ssao looks the same as before, hope it’s not the highest setting
They did downgrade back then to accommodate lower rigs, so yeah this is the Ultra on 1080p.
So by ultra settings, does this mean HBAO+, PhysX and other Nvidia techs are on and a GTX 980 can maintain 60 fps ? what exactly does ultra here means ? coz I don’t have a 980 and I wanna know what FPS I can expect in my rig
LOD is horrible again! I don’t understand that developers feel its alright to release AAA titles with that kind of LOD. Some trailers we saw in the past definitely look way better than the final release. I have to OC my 970 to achieve Ultra, 60fps and Nvidia’s exclusive features because if I can’t that’s another minus. It will be a lowdown to play with almost console like graphics in 60 fps with my piece of hardware that costs 1700$.
the shadows level of detail is really bad, wonder if you use a low preset for lod….where the shadows would start appearing?
Not sure about that. We’ll have to wait a bit more…
Are you trying to be a smart a*s? Cause its not working. But anyway since you want to show me that you lack intelligence I will explain to you why my PC costs 1700. When someone talks about the price of his PC he does include every single component you know. Not just the graphics card and the CPU. These two things don’t work without the rest. I have an i7 4790K, MSI 970 Gaming, Maximus Hero VII, Seasonic Platinum 860 XP, 16 GB Corsair Vengeance 1866, Samsung 850 PRO and 850 EVO 500 GB and last but not least Storm Stryker case. And I haven’t included of course in the price the 850 PRO cause I bought afterwards but I threw it there since I am writing my entire built. I’ve been gaming since 1989 with consoles and PC’s and work as an IT so I don’t think that I could get ripped off in those kind of things. Take care dude.
Although not as good looking as it is being hyped up to be but still easily one of the best looking games ever, especially when you consider the epic scale of the game.
so anyone else agree with all the hype a while back that this game received a downgrade? gotta keep it close to the xb1 version since MS paid all that money for exclusive collectors edition and marketing I guess.
Stutter fest confirmed!
I saw another video from a guy who played at the recent event and he said the game dropped below 60 a few times. Also he wasn’t playing with PhysX turned on since it murders the FPS, and CD Projekt said they’re still trying to optimize it.
Too bad I want to run it @1440p. Probably not gonna be on ULTRA with a single 980, but then again maybe with less than 60fps it is possible with a combination of less than 60fps and high and mixed ultra settings. I could live with that.
They said 980 for Ultra 1080p 60 fps.
1440p is 80% more to render.
hmm yeah, need another 980 (as if I can afford it)…probably have to go on high settings then.
Well there’s a huge amount of IT guys who don’t know jack about PC hardware.
I won’t disagree because its true but that is irrelevant in this particular case. I am no guru and I don’t know everything regarding PC hardware but you read what Mortal wrote.. and you read my reply. I leave it to you…
You can’t be serious right? Anyway serious or not I won’t continue this meaningless conversation any more for obvious reasons probably not for you though. I will just have to face the fact that my PC has many useless stuff in there. Damn what a waste of money…
