  1. Given how much Far Cry 4 “improved” after this week’s patch I doubt this is the last patch for ACU. And guess what, we’ll go through the same exact process for AC Victory next year. Only longer.

  2. I like how Ubisoft has handled the situation with Assassin’s Creed: Unity giving away free content and actually fixing the issues to a great extent quite quickly but still it would have been much much better for the Assassin’s Creed franchise and Ubisoft already damaged reputation had it released in a more polished state. After putting in more than a 100 hours into it I can safely say Assassin’s Creed Unity is one of the best games this year and definitely the best Assassin’s Creed game ever. Sadly it was all overshadowed by the controversies, bugs, framerate issues, online connectivity issues etc for people to actually be able to appreciate the effort put into making this great game underneath. The only thing the developers can really to prevent something like this from not happening is to delay the game by 3-6 months, something that Batman Arkham Knight and The Witcher 3 have done and I have no doubt both of those games will be on GOTY 2015 lists because of this decision.

    1. It’s called fanboyism. Even if they will fix every technical issue, it’s still will be decent at best. Unity has some game design flaws, as well as poor scenario. I’m not even saying that Ubisoft fears to move franchise away from the standard AC formula, which is already got old.

It’s not the best in AC series, and it’s definitely not one of the best games of this year.

      1. Assassin’s Creed: Unity is actually a great RPG in disguise where the gameplay gets better/easier the more upgraded your character becomes & also how powerful your PC is. At first I hated the combat in the beginning and severely missed the old AC games ease/simplicity because I had weak weapons/armor/powers but after buying/unlocking the high-end stuff the gameplay choice for ACU started to make sense. ACU is without a doubt an Action Adventure/RPG and once I realized this I started to appreciate the game a lot more. Now my Arno feels like a really deadly assassin but in the beginning he was pretty ordinary.

As for the Story I treat all AC games like one big story so cannot really say which AC game had the best story but gameplay wise ACU is a step above the rest but you have to improve your character for it to become clearer.

          1. Who knows, some of the things he’s saying may be true. I liked AC4 but I won’t play ACU until it’s fixed. I’ve read that the art design of the revolution era Paris is quite good, and it’ll be good to see once Ubisoft gets its s**t on order. The settings and art have always been my favourite aspect of the AC games, too bad their technical faults get in the way.

          2. I am serious because I can see past the bandwagon hate for ACU and actually appreciate the game for what it is and at max settings and 60+ fps.

Is the game buggy? Hell yeah it is, but it is actually a pretty good game and after patch 3 the game is very acceptable/enjoyable and after patch 4 & 5 most of the bugs should probably be ironed out.

I also completely understand that AAA developers and publishers have huge pressures on them to hit that mid November deadline in time for the holiday shopping season when the game sales will be maximum so these games might be rushed and hence be buggy/incomplete and later be fixed in patches.

Far Cry 4, Dragon Age: Inquisition and Assassin Creed: Unity all suffer from this and would have been better games if they had 3-6 months more time of polish. But that would might mean they would sell less copies because they missed the Christmas holiday season.

        1. You know what RPG is? Role Playing Game. It isn’t enough to just introduce stats and equipment (it’s called RPG elements). The central idea of any great RPG is to give players tools with which they can choose their own role in a game. The wider the selection of those tools, the better it will be, and it still isn’t enough. You also need to create consequences of players choices, so world will react on them and on your character depending on those choices.

And I wasn’t talking about gameplay. I was talking about gamedesign flaws, such as: mobile cr*p and monetization, boring combat system (nowhere near the Arkham series), uninspired coop and repetitive side quests. You can’t just hop through all this and say that it’s the best game of the year.

          1. You don’t need to play the Companion App at all unless you want to unlock the Altair suit and a few crappy weapons that you don’t need. You don’t need to and absolutely don’t have to spend any money on micro-transactions because all the stuff can be easily unlocked by just playing the game. The micro-transactions are just shortcuts for the rich fools.

The combat in Arkham games is great but brain dead easy

The combat in ACU is great but it actually takes skill this time around to fight your way through the game especially in high difficulty zones with lots of snipers and 5 star enemies. The stealth in ACU while not perfect is a big improvement from past AC games.

          2. Doesn’t matter what you need or what you don’t need. It’s the fact that the game used it, and it’s a really bad move.

And I wasn’t talking about difficulty. I was talking about variety. After some time you won’t even want to combat with anyone because of the risk to fall asleep, because you already saw everything. Combat system in the Batman series (or even Middle Earth) has more variety and more moves.

      2. So far it’s better than Black Flag in terms of not being dumbed down. The combat is a lot better, requires good timing and much harder as enemies can finish you in two attacks. The missions are also better as well, in which you can pick the level of difficulty. The game world is massive, loads of places to go. There are loads of criminals as well, it does get repetitive fighting all the time but you can break it up with stealth and full on combat. Nice customisation options on your character, no time of day in realtime but it’s nice they give you the option to switch when you want.

Finally able to crouch and sneak about, it’s much better.Enemies don’t stay lit up when you use your sense as well, it only lasts for a while.

    2. I haven’t played it much yet but I have to say that I really like it. AC3 was terrible, the other ones were good and so is this. It isn’t a 70/100 metacritic game by itself, if it was polished then it would be one of the best AC games for sure.

  3. Yeah, i love it, game with 4 updates still is crap LOL! I can’t wait until a real game is out like Dying Light from WB!

    1. Thats a game im really looking forward to after seeing some Lets Plays of it recently, at least hey are not putting Review Embargos on it lol.

      1. I wouldn’t mind 😀
Probably the only company I wouldn’t mind. I oppose to the principle, but WB is famous for trying to condition the “press” unnecessarily. It happened with Shadows of Mordor…..and it wasn’t necessary. Really stupid 😀

  4. Ive played this game for the last while and all the patches have done is lower my frame-rate by about 20% with the same settings lol.

  5. Oh great, I was just getting into FC4 again after not playing it since release. I had the same problem as the others in the group, an increase in stuttering after playing for an hour or two. Thanks for the heads up though, better wait for the next patch… again.

  6. Looks like AMD users have the best performance right now and patch 4 should stabilise things more. I getting fantastic performance on my R9 280 with the Omega driver now like a lot of us for ACU, no more sub 30fps on my card that’s below spec custom ultra 1080p, FXAA LOL.

It didn’t make sense to me at all that a R9 280 class card was getting 17-25fps in crowds and looking at walls, no sense at all because it’s a powerful card, and also being under minimum spec. Part of the problem is that a high pre-set adds 2xMSAA, Ultra adds the NVIDIA features like PCSS, 4xMSAA which really kill performance, no wonder they’re asking for such high end cards. Consoles are 900p, below high settings(not medium) and are at 16-30fps, so sad.

    1. “no wonder they’re asking for such high end cards”
it happened on DyingLight too. they targeted 60fps on both consoles but in the end they are both 30fps. who knows they maybe less than that and with lower settings.

  7. I’ve said once, Ubisoft know how to present their games. Undoubtedly their games artistic style are something to give praise, but that’s it. Their gameplay is shallow, scripted and repetitive, the plot (especially AC) is shambles, “micro” transactions, companion apps, DRMs and so on… There are a bunch of talented people working at Ubisoft, no doubt, but they need to think with their heads outside their own arses. And people who support them should do the same.

    1. The gameplay is nowhere near as dumb down as Black Flag. AC’s combat was bad, they made it better, made the stealth better, made it harder, added difficult level missions. The combat is brutal if you don’t get it right.

In AC Black Flag you can literally kill all the guards without being in stealth no problem and it’s an automatic fail if you get seen. ACU is a lot harder, more guards and criminals, no way through by brute force because one guy stays where he is on the entrance just inside, so you have to figure out how to get past them both. If you alert them, then the other guards in he underground where you have to get to come rushing up LOL

      1. I’ve read it like: It’s the same, but it’s tweaked. :s
I just can’t like these games anymore, after I’ve finished AC2 and seeing the same game being remade over and over with a different background every sodding year, just… just I don’t know, killed something inside me.

        1. I know what you mean but at the same time, I prefer something more challenging than the constant dumbing down of the series because ACU is harder and more involving. The sense wall hack mechanic has been toned down like the silly easy press space or E on the screen combat, let me fight not press keys when you say so!

The start of the game is bad, hated the linear start, it gets much better when you have full access to the city and options.

          1. To be honest I’ve never felt “something” about the combat, it does it’s job (and IMO it’s just a evolved version of the PoP series but instead of jumping into enemies heads I’m countering attacks) and the other mechanics goes in the same way. I can call it “fine”, because it serves the purposes of the game, but just when I look around for a reason to play this series, I can’t find them. Everything crumbles when I’m not caring for the boring protagonists, or whatever the F they are going with the future plot (or whatever the metaphor/satire Ubisoft is doing with it) when all that I’m seeing is the same thing on a different country/era and a excuse to tackle the franchise name and little bits of familiar gameplay.

            Ultimately, I know it’s all subjective. But, I don’t know… *sigh*

          2. Yep, it’s the typical Ubisoft way now, just like Farcry 3/4, Watch Dogs with the dreadful boring character and same mechanics. play Unity like Skyrim or Oblivion, just avoid the main story lines as long as possible because it’s so shallow. At least Farcry 2 made sense, you play someone who had the knowledge and experience to do what he’s doing instead of being throw into something and within the first 30 minutes you’re a super solider killing machine. Mine you Tomb Raider 2013 was like that too.

What makes these characters do dull and shallow is that Ubisoft are trying to appeal to the masses that just want to kill stuff and quick. Kenway is a pirate, he knows what he’s doing, he kills and is good at it, he steals, he’s good at it, it’s what he does, where the characters I’ve said just don’t and in previous games never did anyway like Lara was never a killing machine, she is an explorer and gun toting is just a means of defence for the bigger agenda.

At least Risen 3 has a proper character that doesn’t p*ss around what he is or pretends to be something he’s not, and yet even that has more depth than a lot of these AAA games with budgets vastly more than Risen 3 and Piranha Byes.

The whole Arno at the start is just utter bullsh*t and yet again you’re an assassin of such quality within a small amount of time from a snobby no one who can weld a sword and after what, 3 months in a cell with wooden sticks.

      2. buy the most powerful sword in the game, you can brute force almost everywhere and kill everyone with one hit or worst two hit. not to mention that awful camera in combat.

  8. Well ,you can’t claim he’s wrong if you haven’t even played it so I don’t know why people are doing it. I never understood the fuss around the Batman combat, although it’s fast and smooth, it’s so dumbed down, it’s just combos and block when it tells you to, it’s your typical console game more combos to the point where Batman does stupid moves that don’t feel connected at all.

ACU combat is more weighted, not arcade like, requires timing by small queues that are not so obvious like Batman or AC4 and it’s a lot more brutal than both of them if you get it wrong.
