The Witcher 3 – Fans Claim ‘Downgrade-ation’ Is In Full Effect After Latest Trailer, Devs Comment

It seems the latest trailer of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt disappointed a number of PC gamers. While this trailer remains epic, its visuals seem to have taken a noticeable hit, as there were a lot of low-resolution textures on various environmental objects, the terrain itself, and some characters. And since the game is advertised as one of the most graphically intense games, these graphical compromises let down a lot of PC gamers.

Fans decided to share their opinions and questions on the game’s official YouTube channel and forum. Some of them questioned whether this latest trailer was from the console or the PC version, while others provided some shots showing the low-resolution textures that were quite noticeable.

The downgrade is real. I refused to believe it at first, but it’s pretty obvious now. Still a good trailer though, and I’m sure the game will be amazing nonetheless.” wrote ‘JohnReese’ and that comment – alongside all the negativity surrounding this latest trailer – made CD Projekt RED’s ‘Marcin Momot’ respond and say:

“I believe some explanation is required here. Unfortunately this time we’ve encountered some horrible YouTube compression problems. At this very moment we are working on fixing this and will upload another version of the trailer as soon as we can. It will present much higher quality. I want to assure you that there will be no downgrade – I see this game every day – it looks stunning.”

Gamersryde has shared a proper 1080p version of the trailer that can be downloaded from here.

And here are some screen-grabs, showing the inconsistent visuals found in this latest trailer (taken from the Gamersryde version of the trailer).

      1. they are in bed with microsoft. i guess all of the footage they shown was on xbox, but maybe this new downgraded version is real xbox version, who knows

    1. I think you need to go back and play a PS2 game…

For current gen (PS4, Xbone) that looks fine, fortunately I’m buying the game on next gen (PC).

  1. Well this isn’t the PC version, as it was shown at the PlayStation Experience. So hopefully the PC version will not be affected. They have done a pretty good job with the game on PC.

    1. It was shown at The Game Awards, not PlayStation Experience. Can’t say anything about the platform though.

        1. Lol . that makes no sense. PC will still have more exclusives. It’s great that more people will be able to play that game. It is not a smart move to post death threats on devs twitter like people did when FF13 was announced for Xbox.

          1. I probably shouldn’t tell you what usually happens when a PC exclusive shooter (Crysis, UT2K4, System Shock) comes to consoles.

      1. Maybe make your own memes instead of recycling lame old ones somebody else made, oh who am I kidding you’re not that clever, you cant even think up a user name.

      2. The real weakness is between your legs. Good luck with that tiny tim.
Imagine, nerds bashing console gaming while somehow feeling superior
sitting down in front of a mouse and keyboard. Losers in life, winners
at the monitor. What a joke.

        1. No the real weakness is between YOUR legs. YOU are somehow offended that somebody else has a hobby that is different than yours. Go get your own life dumbass stop hanging out with people who you don’t get along with.

          1. Keep telling yourself that, sitting alone hammering away furiously at your keyboard. I have no problem with hobbies, I’ve got a ton of them, including console and pc gaming. I have a problem with pc only gamers feeling superior in any shape, form, or fashion…it’s just plain stupid. Only a loser would feel superior to someone else because they sit down in front of a monitor with a keyboard and mouse as opposed to someone else sitting down with a controller on a console. Stupid is as stupid does. If you’re in that category, you’re a loser. You know it. And so does everyone else.

          2. Where did the OP proclaim feeling superior to console gamers? He proclaimed the Sony “supercharged PC” PR as bul**hit and he’s spot on with that.

You just seem to be looking for attention, making such a comment and flinging insults like your own feces without any need for it.

“No problem with other people’s hobbies” my a*s… you obviously do.

          3. hammering
away furiously at your keyboard?only a loser would feel superior to
someone else because they sit down in front of a monitor with a keyboard
and mouse as opposed to someone else sitting down with a controller on a
console?..seems to me youre more pissed off about peripherals than pc
vs console, you do know xbox one pads work on pc right?course you do,your
an expert with many hobbies, what was i thinking..and you do know that
usb keyboards and mice have worked on both console platforms for a while
now,its just that not many if any, games provide support, but yeh,you can
browse the web happily on a ps3 with a keyboard if you wanted…stupid
is as stupid does?you mean like paying over the odds for an already
outdated piece of hardware simply because its marketed in your face with
promises it’ll give you the future of game immersion but time and time
again fails on these promises..remember when xbox said kinect was the
future?remember when sony got compromised and players had their private
information leaked?remember when xbox tried to kill secondhand game
trading?remember when sony proclaimed ‘the cell’ was the future and
developers hated it…yeh, course you do,your a man of many hobbies, youve
probably researched all this stuff, what was i thinking…tell you
what, you go rub your precious controller with your genitals and i’ll go
contemplate how much of a loser i am whilst i play eve dangerous in the
            oculus rift…dammit…wish i had 720 gaming…im so jelly…*puts on
            rift headset*

          4. Sure buddy, whatever you say…meanwhile back in the real world you’re still a loser. Good luck with that.

          5. Losers in life? Ahah, that’s a good one.

Yet here I am, out of college with an OK job but great initial salary. I just recently was able to buy a new $1500 pc rig I was saving up for while I still paid last month’s student debt payment. And as far as I’m concerned, I have a great social life.

Granted, there are many gamers who still sit in their basements, but your statement of a specific group of gamers is, well… simply a generalization.

And while I don’t condone the obnoxious behavior of other PC gamers, I’d have to say that it’s hard NOT to feel superior when you dump more than a grand onto a new rig, while still having enough cash left over for 100+ games on steam or GOG. I stopped buying console games at gamestop because their sales are shit.

    1. LOL, you are the stupidest idiot I’ve seen. You think these games would survive without consoles? LOL, the only thing left if consoles died would be indies on PC you mo**n. Consoles make the most money for developers.

    2. LOL, you are the stupidest idiot I’ve seen. You think these games would survive without consoles? LOL, the only thing left if consoles died would be indies on PC you moron. Consoles make the most money for developers.

      1. Yes they do but of consoles vanished we would all just get the same games on PC so what difference does it make? Technically a Dev makes more money on PC since they don’t have to give the console manufacturer 25% of every game and dlc sale.

        1. Devs don’t make more money on PC – technically or otherwise. PC is an open platform and piracy is a huge hiccup for publishers (DRM does not help either). It is also harder to optimize games for various PC configurations vs a fixed architecture in consoles. Just look up sales numbers for any modern game, multiplats get vast majority of revenue from consoles.

          1. i just typed “devs make more money on pc” and a result came up saying that pc gaming is making more money than all consolse combined. Piracy is irrelevant since it barelly makes a dent. Yes console focused hyped games make more money on console, duhhhh obviously.

          2. I’m not saying that PC sales aren’t larger than console sales combined. What I’m saying is that PC sales are miserable. I’ve done the research for you, see for yourself:

            http://www.vgchartz.com/gamedb/?name=call+of+duty%3A+ghosts&publisher=&platform=&genre=&minSales=0&results=200

You can’t image how big of a dent is piracy making. Why is PC the most popular gaming platform in Russia? Because a lot of people are still used to pirating digital content rather than buying games on consoles.

          3. ones who mostly pirate are people who don’t buy games at all , or very rarely , so piracy is not really bad.. its quality of games that is bad. most console owners are casual kids so they buy everything that is hyped by companies , they can’t think for themselves. i buy what is really good , and pirate what i can

          4. Hey tard, Vgcchartz do not include digital sales, where PC crushes all contenders. PC is the number one gaming platform in the world and the most profitable. These are facts your “fanboyism” can not over turn. Now go play some casual games on your crapsole and leave real gaming to the PC gamers.

          5. What’s your problem? Did I insult you? How did you even come up with the fanboy label?

As a matter of fact, I play games both on PC and PS4. You can believe in whatever delusional crap you find comforting. Just try to not b**ch about it on other people.

          6. Why would you use Call of Duty: Ghosts as an example, a poorly made PC port nobody cares about? Digital sales don’t show up on vgchartz, much less accurate sales figures. Look up Crysis for PC, you’ll notice that it has 0.00 sales in NA. That’s not right, seeing as how it had sold a million copies two months after it’s release and has significantly outsold that number since.

          7. “research”
            “VGchartz”
pick one. that site is fake as f**k and it don’t include digital sales which most if not all pc gamers buy their games digitaly.

“Why is PC the most popular gaming platform in Russia”
because steam officialy support russia and games are cheaper in russia because it uses russian currency instead of $. use a russian VPN and go to steam and see the prices and with the same VPN connect to PSN or XBL, still 50 60$ games. currency. not only steam but origin and uplay support russian currency for their games, result ? more russian can afford to buy PC games and more russian PC gamers

          8. vghcharts doesnt count digital sales whic his 95% of pc sales, steam has said russia is one of their biggest market in europe.

      2. PS experiance was about indies

AAA are becoming to expensive as yoshida said 4/10 sony exlusives sell.

The goldmine that consoles think have on AAA gaming doesnt exist, only cod and gta sell and a bunch of other franchises like creed that get milked.

Horror games are dead, tactical games are dead, innovation and new ips are dead. Everything is pretty much a sequel with mandatory mp elements.

The future of gaming is about a bunch of select AAA titles that keep getting milked and indies. 100 million plus are wasted into AAA games that do not offer anything new gameplay wise, or even a new ip to begin with.

You will be stuck at playing the sam sequels to the same casual franchises over and over. Pc is where innovation happens and has more than just budget hardwware that these condoles have. The current console model doesnt work anymore. It will change to something subscription based with cloud and as you can see at game awards and sony experiance indies are pushed more and more. This is the future.

If cosnoles didnt limit developers with hardware and specific demographics we would have far better looking and innovative games than the cesspool of sequels that we got today.

Every gen is less revolutionary than the last one with less innovation and less new ips…and games in general.

We sure as h3ll didnt get where we are now thanks to pc, but infact it was consoles and the focus on casuals due to the insane development budget increase.

      3. according to this and several other sources console gaming sales have fallen and PC has surpassed as well is projected to continue to rise over consoles

        1. That doesn’t prove anything LOL, that’s because there are like 1000x games more on PC. But we are talking about AAA titles like the Witcher. Also like 90% of PC sales come from MOBAs and MMOs LOL.You guys are ignorant as f’ if you think that games like the Witcher can survive just off of PC. They spent more money on the game because they knew they would release on consoles. If they didn’t release on consoles the Witcher 3 would be like the first one, piece of s**t.

          1. Lets ignore the fact that you clearly don’t know what your talking about for a second and lets look at this: if there were no consoles, gamers would just play on PC. It would be more beneficial to games because there would be no restrictions. *drops mic*

        2. That doesn’t prove anything LOL, that’s because there are like 1000x games more on PC. But we are talking about AAA titles like the Witcher. Also like 90% of PC sales come from MOBAs and MMOs LOL.You guys are ignorant as if you think that games like the Witcher can survive just off of PC. They spent more money on the game because they knew they would release on consoles. If they didn’t release on consoles the Witcher 3 would be like the first one, piece of crap.

          1. “You guys are ignorant as if you think that games like the Witcher can survive just off of PC.”

Are we talking about the same Witchers that are only on Pc at the moment, and made enough money and sold millions upon millions of copies that they were able to fund a game of Witchers 3 magnitude ? And how about Far Cry 1 and Crysis 1? The ones that sold about 7 million combined on pc alone and after they went full re**rd, aka they put Crysis 2 and 3 on consoles they sold less copies on all platforms combined than Crysis 1 did on pc alone? By the gods, how is Pc gaming going to survive without consoles? How will we manage people ?

          2. for a reason those console games making their way into PC. multiplatform titles = more sales most of the time

          3. lets see why would a company that is bleeding money and talent want to repackage and sell games with less development time and effort on console oh I know because that company is desperate

          4. Not downplaying the PC, but 6 million in 6 years for 2 games is pretty poor sales compared to console game sales.

          5. They still make more than 6 million in 6 years though. Lots of console games make make that in about 2 years or less. The desired goal that console games make is well over 6 million. So that explains that 4/10 statistic. Note how Square Enix complained about only selling 5 million on release of TR:DE.

          6. Yes, that’s what we’re doing. Comparing the sales of PC only developers to console only developers. Its just a fact that console gamers somewhat keep PC gaming/development alive. While we pay $60-$90 for games, PC gamers either pirate, or wait until its dirt cheap. If console gaming was to disappear, gaming in general would become a niche market. Causing less people to indulge in it due to the high entry cost of obtaining a decent gaming PC. Meaning development of games; although not being held back technically, would take longer to develop and result in an scarcity of AAA titles.

          7. You make the classic wrong assumption about PC gaming, for consoles it’s all about AAA games and they would be dead without them. PC has plenty of great selling games that time and time again get brought by PC gamers only, Sims, Diablo, Football Manager, StarCraft 2, ARMA series, Total War series, Civilisation Series and that not including the biggest sellers like WoW, Free to Play, MOBOs and other MMOs that are PC only.

          8. Don’t get me wrong, PC has some very popular titles. Too bad that they’re highly pirated, causing PC devs to rely on in-game purchases to accumulate large enough profits to support their next project/expansion. Much like cell phone games. Those games you’ve mentioned take full advantage of the twitch fast keystrokes and mouse movements of the PC. So they have no place on console obviously. But notice how games like BF, The Witcher, Team Fortress, etc with that same AAA feel that consoles are known for, always make it to console. Devs know they’ll make more money on console because the low risk of pirating.

          9. “Too bad that they’re highly pirated”
if they are popular which means good sales thats not the problem then. last i checked GTA V was one of the most pirated games ever but it sold really damn good.

“PC devs to rely on in-game purchases”
you mean destiny ? or gran turismo ? forza 5 ? or anyother new game on both consoles and pc ?

          10. You do realize that cracked Xbox 360 isos reach online before the cracked PC versions for almost every game.

What in-game purchases are you talking about? Last I heard even Destiny had in-game purchases. EA shoves that s**t in almost every game of theirs regardless of platform. Forza 5 also had it.

          11. strawman argument is obvious strawman argument. the piracy argument is so old and stupid, developers dont even consider that a fault anymore, when was the last time a developer mentioned piracy as a concern? pc is very profitable, specially with clients like origin, and uplay where they take all the money with no fees.

digital distribution is a lot more profitable than physical. 3 million copies of BF4 digital makes as much as money as 6 million physical on consoles, due to no fees and straight up profit. devs take 12 bucks from a 60 dollar game on console with fees. do the math, read about the market, inform yourself before using such lame and weak arguments like piracy.

          12. “If console gaming was to disappear”
that would be the best thing ever, because they will force to make good games to sell not yearly s**t with crappy performance that console gamers buy

          13. Nope PC gamings main income comes from independent and Micro transaction sources. Those AAA title developers your talking are not console developers they are multiplatform developers since Publishers and stockholders only care about profit not the platform they develop for Consoles do not keep PC gaming alive since most sales for software on consoles or the extra price you talk about go back to the manufacturer of consoles to help cover the loss of selling the hardware at a lower cost. Piracy of games is at an all time low and buying games cheaply helps sales because they are basically making money off copies that would not have been sold otherwise. Consoles do nothing for PC gaming actually its quite the opposite gaming overall is hindered by consoles due to publishers pushing to develop for the lowest common denominator. This is why games on PC tend to be more tactical and maintain a higher difficulty. A Publisher would want to create the greatest amount of sales possilbe to achieve this they have to cater to the greatest amount of people from those whom only play casually to those whom play competitively. So the curve of difficulty in games stay lower in games than they could be. This also creates a second issue and that is lack of innovation. Console games have ceased to evolve and follow the same formulla over and over that is because its is safer for stock holders to invest in something that creates little financial risk over gain this is why call of duty will never change until people actually stop buying it they share holders and developers know they can milk the franchise like a cash cow. Battlefield, Assassins Creed, and several yearly titles are examples of this. Consoles are diluting gaming mainly because to develop for it requires Publishers on PC developrs are free to develop and attempt to publish on steam making access to gamers easier and less costly this also allows them to take greater risks and better gaming experiences

          14. heavy rain ? less than 2million in 4 5 years ? yep consoles make more money, lol. and development budget of witcher 1 & 2 is less than 1/4 of games like HR

          15. Not sure what you’re smoking, both TW1 and TW2 have sold 6 million copies over the last 6 years. Crysis 1 beat Crysis 2/3 on sales, all continue to sell on the PC platform. Also, where is all your figures on PC only games? You don’t have them do you because like console idiots you think we all play WoW(not sure why that’s an issue anyway because it blows all the console sales out of the water).

          16. those figures show that overall game software sales are higher than consoles I never said anything about Witcher surviving on the PC alone that is a straw man argument and quite fallacious. I stated a counter to your argument that sales are below that of consoles which they arent these have nothing to do with subscriptions to MMOs or purchases for items in a MOBA this is as the title states for Software meaning copies of games. My issue isnt with with Witcher coming to consoles its with companies choosing to gimp ports over to PC because they want to create parity between platforms. Never ounce did I mention anything about Witcher or no games for consoles.

        3. Look at the results for the publishers we know of – EA, Ubisoft, Take-2 and the like. They’re already making more money from PS4 than PC, less than a year (at the time of the financial reports) into the new generation. Most big-budget games rely on console money to be made.

          1. Most of PCs sales profits are not from console game ports its from independent PC titles so those big budget games sales console players buy contribute nothing to PC gaming

          2. So BF4 isn’t a PC game then, or Sims 4? EA makes PC-only games, and games for PC first (BF4 was poorly optimised on console), and yet makes more money from one new-gen console than PC gaming together. I’ve also seen more than a few indies note that they’ve made more money on console as well, although plenty still make more on PC as well. But there’s a reason every developer and their dog are releasing on PS4 and XB1 now, and it’s not because Sony and MS sent around ‘the boys’ to kneecap anyone that wouldn’t – it’s because there’s revenue there. Revenue that fuels game development, that supports gaming across console and PC.

          3. no its not a game developed for the PC its a game that is developed for a multiplatform in mind not the PC it was buggier at release for PC with multiple crashes that where never ironed out till this day the Bugs in the game is not proof that the game is better optimised for any platform because EA admitted that it was rushed and buggy for all platforms. Its a Multiplatform game and not developed primarily for the PC because if it where for the PC then the game would be from the ground up designed to support all or most PC features including the ability to mod the game. Elite Dangerous is a PC game, Star Citizen is a PC game BF4 is not a PC game it is multiplatform. The developers even admitted to developing primarily for the consoles then ported over to PC

          4. On the by, and I know this is changing tack a little, but I’ve been gaming on PC since the late 1980s, and if a game is buggy at launch, that means it’s more likely to be a PC game, not less ;). PC games have been notoriously buggy since forever. Not sure why citing a game is buggy means it’s _not_ a PC game, I’d have thought it’d be the other way around. Diablo III, Civilization V and anything from Paradox prior (and some things after) to CK2 say hello ;).

Oh – and Elite Dangerous is announced for console, prior to it’s release, so it’s been made with multiple platforms in mind a la BF4.

        4. Great to see that more profit do not lead to better optimization nor better games! Furthermore the best games appear to be kick-starters instead.

          1. better optimization, developers cant even release a game for one platform and have it optimized the first time, they know the specs and architect of ps4 and x1 and still have to release patches for these systems.

      4. no one cares about games , we are here for witcher 3 specifically , game that was possible because PC , this is a PC game , PC gamers made witcher 3 possible! and you’re right , consoles make most money since there are so many idiots like you obviously , buying games for retarded kids every year. PC users don’t tolerate idiotic games that are majority of whats released by “AAA” publishers , so that’s why they don’t earn much money from PC only. PC gamers buy games only when they are good , opposed to console sheeple who buys everything marketing machine tells them to..

    3. The only cancer on gaming is people like you, real gamers dont care if a shadow looks slightly better on another device, they just enjoy the game and play it, maybe you should spend more time doing that and less time raging about everything like a self entitled child and life will get much better for you I’m sure.

      1. Real gamers? lol. if what you said is true, we all should be still playing on PS2 or PSX, but most of SOny drones moved to ps4 because the graphics… so you cared about graphics when you upgraded your PC or when you bought a new console.Dont be such an hypocrite.

    4. The real cancer is between your legs. Good luck with that tiny tim. Imagine, nerds bashing console gaming while somehow feeling superior sitting down in front of a mouse and keyboard. Losers in life, winners at the monitor. What a joke.

    5. My first console was Sega Genesis and I loved it.
It opened the doorway to video games for me.
Discounting the whole console business seems so ungrateful.
      What was your first console?

    6. If I ran this site, I’d be ashamed of my commenting audience. DSO easily has the most heinous, toxic comment section out of anything submitted to N4G. People here need to grow up, regardless of what hardware they game on.

Here is a choice quote from below:
“no one cares about games , we are here for witcher 3 specifically , game that was possible because PC , this is a PC game , PC gamers made witcher 3 possible! and you’re right , consoles make most money since there are so many idiots like you obviously , buying games for retarded kids every year. PC users don’t tolerate idiotic games that are majority of whats released by “AAA” publishers , so that’s why they don’t earn much money from PC only. PC gamers buy games only when they are good , opposed to console sheeple who buys everything marketing machine tells them to..”

For the most part, it’s nothing but mouth diarrhea and 60th trimester abortions in here. I don’t even know why I still check this site from time to time.

  2. It is called optimization and developers have been doing this forever, except in the case of Assassin’s Creed Unity and we all know how people responded to that decision by Ubisoft. Developers just cannot win anymore. If they downgrade/optimize to actually attempt to make the game (e.g. Watch Dogs) playable on a wide range of systems people get angry, if they don’t downgrade/optimize & make the game (e.g. Assassin’s Creed: Unity) so demanding that only the most powerful of systems can play it at high quality people get angry and say it is not optimized. The AAA devs these days just cannot satisfy everyone and hence they receive mixed player response regardless of what they do.

    1. Optimization is when you make the game run better but it looks visually identical.

What you are describing is downgrading. THat is when optimization has run its course and there is no more performance to be extracted.

Read – what you are describing is downgrading, not optimization. Optimization is when you come up with a different way of writing shaders so that they look the same, but use up less resources. Optimization is when you use a texture compression algorithm that leaves the textures looking 99.9% identical, but taking up 50% of the space. Optimization is when you take a non-important object like a barrel, and reduce it from 10k poly’s to 5k poly’s but it looks identical because you were SMART in the way you culled the polygons.

You really need to learn what optimization is.

What you are describing is DOWNGRADING, not optimization.

      1. Optimizing is not just magical performance increases. The root of optimizing is “optimum” (the greatest degree or best result obtained or obtainable under specific conditions).

Optimizing is a broad term for hitting the ‘sweet spot’ between performance and visuals on specific platforms. For example, Bioshock was released on iOS and it was optimized for that platform.

That being said, when a game is downgraded to run well on a console, and those downgrades come to the PC as well, it can’t be said that such a console port is optimized for the PC.

        1. Optimization doesn’t always mean downgrade. Many games sometimes don’t use hardware properly (such as latest Ubisoft games on multiple threads), or badly programmed, or something else.

You can’t say that this game look like sh*t because it’s godly optimized. There are a lot of ways to get performance boost without turning down the visuals. That is optimization, so I agree with Sandy Bridge.

Turning down the visuals is like throwing your belongings away, just because they don’t fit in your bag, instead of pack them properly.

    2. I think this is more about the ethical problem of spending years (YEARS) generating hype and excitement based around images and media that are ultimately a lie.

Heck, the ‘next-gen’ Watch_Dogs presentation (among others) made thousands of people go out and buy a Playstation 4 because of what they thought it was capable of. It was a lie.

Have you ever heard the term “Bait and switch”? That’s what this is. It’s wrong, and I’m not surprised people are angry, upset, or otherwise feel deceived.

    3. what your saying is true in some cases, but what jay said makes more sense.
developer/publisher sell the game with it’s graphics. (main problem)
developer/publisher downgrade the game (people gets angry).
game comes out and it runs like s**t and it’s downgraded (e.g watch dogs).

people get angry and they have right to complain.

    1. You cannot be suggesting that they would use anything but the best looking build of the game for a trailer. Not this again. Not the denial. Just stop.

      1. It will never look like the trailer, that was just a teaser with a background, the game doesnt look like that and it runs at 30 fps, looking at naughty dogs history, their games never manage to live up to their reveal, but ofcourse they get a free pass.

  3. The problem is ALL games are now selling much better on console. Even pc-centric games like The Witcher will far outsell on console than on PC.

It really is only a matter of time before PC gaming is strictly MMO’s and indie titles. AAA budget games are not concerned with PC anymore, which is why we get hand-me-down versions of games.

    1. What on earth you talking about? What are those pc centric games that sell better on consoles? witcher 2 didnt Diablo didnt sims didnt, infact sanctum 2 devs said the console sales werent enough to even cover up the development costs.

Games nowadays go being being console focused, they are casual focused.

    2. Probably 99% of all games are multiplatform, which means they aren’t really focused on anything, including consoles. Peasants get their precious 30 fps and 900p aka cinematic experience, we get our 60fps and 2k.

Yes, I too want more high budget PC exclusives, but profit from one platform usually cannot cover all development costs for AAA project nowadays.

    3. “ALL games are now selling much better on console”
not really. according to ubisoft, PC is the second platform for them in terms of revenu.

“we get hand-me-down versions of games”
not really, look at ACU on consoles. i hate that game and it’s optimization on PC, but it worst on consoles, it’s completely unplayable on them.

“AAA budget games are not concerned”
last i checked (few years ago) those AAA games were released 3 to 9 month later on PC but now they release the same time as their console version. (mortal kombat, AC series,Batman series etc…)

“it really is only a matter of time before PC gaming is strictly MMO’s and indie titles”
all i see is console developers/ japanese developer are coming to PC these past two years more than ever. we have more games that known for beign console only games on PC today and numbers are growing.

here some japanese games (2014, one or two will release on 2015):
      Agarest: Generations of War
Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin
Dead or Alive 5: Last Round
      Dead Rising 3
Dynasty Warriors 8: Xtreme Legends Complete Edition
      Dynasty Warriors 8: Empires
      Final Fantasy XIII
      Final Fantasy XIII-2
Hyperdimension Neptunia Re:Birth 1& 2 (might come to pc as well)
      Killer is Dead
      Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII
      Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance
Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes
Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain
Resident Evil: Revelations 2 (same day as consoles, not 6month later)
Street Fighter V (not even releasing on Xbox)
The Evil Within (no delay on PC)
      The Legend of Korra
      Valkyria Chronicles
      Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z
      Way of the Samurai 4

    4. What ? Can’t you see all the major titles coming on PC ? Ryse, Dead Rising 3, Dark Souls 1 & 2. All of these were exclusive console games and now they are on PC too ? Even fighting games like Mortal Kombat, SF5, Dead or Alive 5 are confirmed on PC with rumors of Tekken 7 on the horizon. I don’t see PC becoming MMO and Indie anytime soon and hopefully never.

      1. Hows Street Fighter 4 on PC? Last i heard online doesnt work.

It works on console though. Gee i wonder why.

    5. “pc-centric games like The Witcher” LOL, Witcher isn’t a PC centric game though. Half Life 2 was a PC centric game. There are several console versions but PC came first and you can tell it’s a PC game when you play it on PC. Basically your first hint should be the menu. Is the menu the same on all platforms? Then it’s a console game. PC games have PC menus and there need to be different menus on consoles. If your game has a menu that is easily navigated with a controller then that’s what you focussed on. Console-centric. This applies to Witcher 2 and it will apply to Witcher 3, count on it.

      1. Well, in Uncharted the Youtube compression was actually a huge problem, and in large part due to the fact that foliage and textures suffer a ton. Those were what made up most of the environment in the demo. Uncharted looked fantastic on Gamersyde.

Witcher 3 still looks great. Hopefully the PC version will be able to crank it up crazy. I remember just how good Witcher 2 could look on PC

        1. Even on gamersyde you cant look at the begining of the game which takes place during nightime and tell me it looks as good as e3.

Its obviously not on par with the e3 teaser, people refuse to admit that.

    1. It could be a bug, too. Usually a game will switch to ridiculously highres textures on characters when it needs to show them close up. There could be a bug in that particular cutscene or LOD trigger that prevented the game from switching to high-res textures.

  4. Hmm, yeah, when you zoom in on any texture it’s going to break down. I don’t think I’d care to waste system resources on NPC sleeves, though. I can’t remember a time when I’ve ever cared about sleeve resolution in a game.

That last image of that monster looks abysmal, though. I’m assuming that’s some kind of glitch.

  5. i wouldnt worrya bout the pc version, this is cdpr after all. they havent wrong us yet, so the faith is still there. hell, even if it downgraded, the game will probably be amazing and thats all i care about. watch dgos was just straight out false advertising.

  6. I hate all the as**oles that were attacking CDPR over a downgrade. This is not ubisoft. CDPR is still a company that very much cares about its community, most notably the PC community and they deserve no hate after TW2.

  7. HA! and I thought I was the only one who noticed it. I noticed it on Awards Game and then I thought it was only the compression so I DLed the gamersyde video and still the textures seem lower. I even compared the older wild hunt trailer and the textures on the older trailer look like 4k textures while the recent one looks considerably lower 🙁

Pfft … and I was thinking of upgrading because of this game alone. Why is CDPR downgrading it though ? I thought PC is the lead plat.

  8. i prefer downgrade instead of crappy frame rate and stutterring issues, and i hate downgraded games with crappy fps and performance problems. maybe that wasn’t the PC version ? did they ever show it’s pc version ?

by the way, they are low quality textures in Batman AK’s scare crow trailer from last night 🙂

      1. How could we live without Mantle. Now is DX responsible for everything. Maybe my sleeping problems are connected with DX too. I dream about it and I don’t remember. 🙂 Now when we consider games using Mantle, which one has better graphics according to DX?

    1. If it was unaffected, they would’ve already reassured us with videos and screenshots, but the only thing they have is words (and the rumors about downgrade circulating the net for a long time now, since E3). Same thing was before Watch Dogs and Dark Souls 2.

  9. The game looked worse indeed. What made me scratch my head was earlier model of Geralt’s head with no hair on sides (lack of nVIDIA hair tech) . So it could be the console version. Still it’s not a smart move to remain silent on this matter and speak in riddles. Seems like Star Citizen is the only game free of this new tradition of downgrade.

  10. Except for the Wild Hunt character everything is on pair with SoD trailer.Models, foliage, most of the textures etc.
Why did they include unfinished segments in the trailer is the real question here.Same with the previous released screenshots where the wolfs didn’t use nvidia fur.

  11. It does look better than Witcher 2, but it is a bit disappointing. Wicher 2 was the best looking game out at it’s release on PC and console in my opinion. I expected a crazy leap for Witcher 3, but I’m fine with it now. Maybe they’ll have some crazy pc effect you can only run on high end cards that’ll make me consider a new gpu for like voxel gi. Just wish it wasn’t an Nvidia sponsored game so maybe we could expect Mantle. DX12 is too far in the future to hope for as Win10 likely won’t launch until later in 2015 and unless they make an enhanced version 6-12 months later, I wouldn’t expect DX12.

  12. Damn! manual approval takes so long XD

HA! and I thought I was the only one who noticed it. I noticed it on Game awards and then I thought it was only the compression so I DLed the gamersyde video and still the textures seem lower. I even compared the older wild hunt trailer and the textures on the older trailer look like 4k textures while the recent one looks considerably lower 🙁

Pfft … and I was thinking of upgrading because of this game alone. Why is CDPR downgrading it though ? I thought PC is the lead plat.

2nd to 4th pic look like the texture didn’t load or something 0_0?

  13. Witcher Devs have always been pushing visuals. I did notice the textures, especially the characters boot stepping off horse onto snow… but I chalked it up to it being a 3rd person game. I assume most of the time the camera will never be that close to the characters or ground.

  14. I can’t believe PC gamers had a go at CDPR, and didn’t give them the benefit of the doubt – I can’t think of another dev/publisher that’s done more for PC gaming other than Valve. Anyone who doesn’t think the Witcher 3 on PC won’t push cutting-edge rigs has very little knowledge about PC gaming.

    1. Anyone who thinks CDPR give a crap about the PC has very little knowledge about PC gaming. Witcher 2 was a console game, Witcher 3 will also be a console game. The PC is a secondary platform to CDPR now. Maybe Cyberpunk will be different, tat is if it doesn’t turn into vaporware.

      1. Yeah, because the Witcher 2 on max settings looked exactly like the X360 version ;). Just because The Witcher 2’s design had moved forward from the Neverwinter Nights template that the first Witcher was based on doesn’t make it a console game. I thought the whole argument in favour of PC gaming was that it was innovative, not that it didn’t change, ever.

Oh, and then there’s GOG – because GOG is all about consoles ;).

        1. LOL, it didn’t look like the console verson at max settings, that had reduced polygons, lower texture quality and not sun shafts, no bokeh depth of field

          1. Which is exactly my point (you missed the sarcasm ;)) – the PC version of Witcher 2 was a much more technically demanding game than the console version – ergo, CD PR didn’t just ‘phone in’ the PC game, they made something specifically for PC.

      2. please bip bip bip. W2 wasn’t a console game, it came a year or so later on only x360, thats it. to this date the pc version of game still looks beautiful with amazing textures which most of so called next gen games doesn’t have

        1. “Ahole”, really? Calm down.

“W2 wasn’t a console game, it came a year or so later on only x360” – the console version was always planned to happen. It was only delayed because they ran into technical difficulties they hadn’t forseen. They wanted to do a simultaneous release originally. And it was a console game, the menus, controls and low field of view (that cannot be increased even in the files) all scream consoles.

Your argument is basically “GRAPHICS = PC”. That’s silly and I expect better from you.

    2. What exactly did CDPR do for PC gaming? The Witcher 2 was a buggy mess on release, ripe with DRM. Alls they did was fix a few things and side more with PC gamers, TW2 didn’t have a very good interface or wasn’t made for mouse and keyboard very well anyway, all the graphics options are outside the game.

        1. I know that(I’m a member I brought games from GOG) but we’re taking about CDPR games here and they couldn’t do GOG any other way. I actually really like TW2 but the interface and options outside the game are bad like it was on launch. FOV is bad, no option to zoom out, combat is worse on KB/M when it shouldn’t be. Graphically it’s solid but the awful LOD issues were never fixed even after loads of patches.

I brought the boxed version (really nice actually) but on release it was very buggy and streaming issues with stuttering still today.

          1. I played Witcher 2 (I’m a strategy gamer as well, and in those circles TW2 means something else) on PC, and thought it was fine, and had some good high-end graphics settings that the PS4 and XB1 would struggle with, let alone the X360! If it was a game made for console, it wouldn’t have had these features, it wouldn’t have come out on PC more than a year before it came out on the 360! I agree it could have had more options, but the graphics options it did have were reasonable.

As for GOG, there are a bajillion ways they could do it – they definitely didn’t need to be putting together galaxy in a way that works with Steam, or be DRM-free such that once a game is installed, GOG never needs to hear from it again for it to work forever. It’s a more gamer-friendly service than Steam in many ways.

      1. All PC games, Console games are a mess here and there and even more now then ever. CDPR at least goes beyond what Consoles can do. And Witcher 3 as well as CyberPunk 2077 will continue the trend.

      2. “side more with PC gamers”
thats a rare thing sean, only handful of devs still doing that and CDPR is one of them next to creative assembly and avalanche and 4A games etc…

  15. “Why is CDPR downgrading it though ? I thought PC is the lead plat.”

When will people learn that this is always a lie. When development for multiple platforms is undertaken simultaneously and a simultaneous LAUNCH is the goal then the weakest platform dictates what can and can’t be in the game. Claims of the strongest platform being the “lead” are simply lies. Always. Try to find one counter example. You can’t. Even Witcher 2 which came out much sooner on PC than its console version shows clear signs of console-oriented design. Multiplatform games = console games with PC ports.

    1. Well, CDPR has been PC pro so even though other companies are lying about it I trusted them. Still giving them the benefit of the doubt that maybe it was just a texture loading bug

  16. So instead of being able to enjoy what you have been shown of the game so far you waste the developers time with your unscientific analysis, comments, innuendos, and frankly stupid opinions so they have less time to perfect develop the game and start to worry about what you think because some worthless YouTube video was shown. They still have 2+ months to fix problems in the game. At this point I would say if you don’t like it don’t buy it AND shut the hell up.

  17. Lots of useless console gamer on our site.
gtfo kiddos. I dont get why they love low end hardware… pc gaming or gtfo
    Go troll somewhere else.

  18. How about having conversations about the article instead of having a PC vs console flame war.
Have the crap people are using to back up their arguments are made up fantasy.
Look I will start it off. Those textures are very low res indeed.

  19. They are probably not going to create another higher resolution set of textures and more detailed world simply because $120 GPUs on store shelves can now outperform the consoles for texture bandwidth.
PS4 and Xbox one have limited memory bandwidth for texture reads each for different reasons. PS4 because it shares the bandwidth with the cpu and because of memory contention, the Xbox because it uses lower bandwidth ddr3 which is shared with the cpu and because of memory contention. The ddr3 however generally does not store much of the frame buffer which instead resides in the Xbox One’s on die esram.

In the end both systems have inferior memory bandwidth specifically for texture reads than a discreet gpu in a PC such as a AMD 7850.

Developers want to use high res textures everywhere and increase scene detail for the console versions simply can’t. This is why initially in E3 and over and over you see games that initally have high res textures everywhere in early PC showroom demo builds, end up with a mix of low, mid & high res textures on the PC/PS4/XO versions once released even with all settings set at ultra.

  20. PC version is not getting a downgrade. Plane and Simple. Witcher 3 on PC will be a huge difference like Witcher 2 on PC next to 360 if not better with all the gameworks effects.

  21. For consoles the game will be downgraded, no option. For PC, I will risk it and say that no chance of it happening. In fact, the issues people report (and much more) will be dealt with and delivered for free to all owners as “The Witcher 3 Enhanced Edition”. How can I claim this? It happened to both previous games. And, during the first, they didn’t even have the reputation or resources to do it without loss. They did it anyway.
I will worry about that company in the day it becomes a public traded company, until then they have my full support.

  22. Seriously this s**t has me worried because of their BS “youtube compression excuse”
, compression will not make the game look worse.
I downloaded the uncompressed video, and all it did was make the downgrade even clearer.
Why didn’t they just say that it was console footage? This is extremely suspicious.

  23. Haha since when YT compression has anything to do at all with how a texture looks? people still fall for this sht? it has to be some extreme ancient sub 480p compression for something like that to happen.

Next we are going to find YT compression is also to blame for low poly counts. LEL!

    1. Are you serious ? If you’re serious then, the distance of the camera doesn’t matter coz it’s still pretty obvious how low the textures on the latest trailer are compared to the older one.

The textures on the new trailer look like it didn’t load or something. So I’m thinking maybe it was a bug ?

  24. I’m gonna wait for the release to judge wether or not has been downgraded…
Until then it’s a waste my time commenting about this.

  25. That’s what happens when you make your game for consoles.
Funny to see this being downplayed, but rumors of AC:Unity having been downgraded for parity? Better flip out there.

  26. If consoles dies people would just play on a PC do people stop being gamers because there are no consoles also PC has more software sales than consoles your argument is illogical. PC components would also be cheaper as there would be a growth of gamers playing on the PC. If consoles died dont you think then the publishers and developers would then scramble to cater to the PC community since that would be their only source of profit. You didnt put much effort into that thought process did you?
