YouTube’s member ‘KoHApaT’ has shared a video showing Unreal Engine 4’s Temple tech demo recreated in Unity 4.5.5. This map was recreated by Boris Novikov and KoHApaT added some more effects to it. This recreation can give you an idea between the differences of UE4 and Unity. Do note that Unity 5 is said to be even more versatile and powerful than Unity 4. Also note that while the UE4 demo was created by an entire team, the Unity 4 adaptation was handled by a single person. For comparison purposes, we’ve also included the Unreal Engine 4 demo. Enjoy!

Still, the PC platform won him over consoles. That was mainly due to 3DFX and its iconic dedicated 3D accelerator graphics card, Voodoo 2. Unreal Engine 4 looks way more detailed.
DAT UE4 LIGHTING, it’s not even close, UE4 looks so much better.
And the sad thing is they removed the best thing from it because piss4 coundlnt handle it.
There is only one fix.
Praise GabeN!
Well Unity looks nice considering it was created by 1 person.
All assets were taken from UE scene, so the only thing he had to do was to set up the scene. Most time consuming part was exporting everything from UE (meshes and textures), importing them to Unity and converting materials form node-based system of UE to custom LUX shader in Unity. In my eye it’s maybe 2 day of work.
Unity 5 was created by Unity Technologies. There are over 500 employees.
Unity 5 is still in beta stage, and this made with Unity 4,5. The recreating in Unity was made by one person, those factors should also tell a lot about what differences should be achievable opposed to a team in Unreal Engine.
When that is said.. Unreal Engine is more capable of advance operations and more efficient than Unity.
It is obvious that he meant the tech demo and not Unity as in the engine itself.
Honestly, not really obvious, because even if he meant tech demo, he’s equivalently wrong, which was explained by VeTi above.
As for “achievable difference” – it looks like Unity I used to see. It got popular not because of shiny graphics, so no surprises here.
Unity 5 or nothing… Doom 4 better use Unity 5 or I am going to puke. And of course UR4 version is gonna outshine the Unity version since the demo was made for UR4 from the ground up. Do the same thing for the Unity version and it will be a much closer comparison.
But I am sure UR4 will look slightly better then current Unity.
Doom 4 is using iD Tech 6.
aaaaaah that’s good to know since Dev’s still can’t get the best out of what Unity engine was developed for.
No its idtech 666.
PFFFT such an amazing name, must be some Marketing guy that came up with it.
A Doom game on the Unity engine? I hope I’ll never see that monstrosity.
It was said that it would use a New Unity engine… But looks like it will be using ID Tech 6. Since Unity is a good idea but hardware is just not good enough for it to show it’s true purpose.
Who said that and when? I doubt that such a big company as Zenimax will ever even think of using this engine.
like I can remember who and when… That was around 2007 when John C hinted about a Doom 4 with rumors and speculation… Besides as much as ID 5 was a fail it would not shock me if another engine did not ended up being used… Since you can’t even call ID… ID anymore… And F Zenimax
ID Tech 5 was announced back in 2007 and it looked spectacular, and now you saying ID Software would prefer Unity instead of their own brand new ID Tech engine for their main franchise? I’m sure you heard wrong.
There is nothing spectacular about ID Tech 5… unless you look at every texture from a far while playing the games.. Rage, Wolf 3d are prime examples of the up close garbage the engine is. The only good thing is textures don’t repeat themselves which is nice and all but whats the point if you are not going to put extra effort into it and makes things look nice when you get up close….. And now ID software is just on the console ho train and they will become the next ubisoft when it comes to downgrades. I own both Rage, and Wolf the new world order.. Next to consoles nothing is really special about the PC versions…
” and now you saying ID Software would prefer Unity instead of their own brand new ID Tech engine for their main franchise?” I am not saying nothing I just said that’s what I heard. But I don’t keep up on ID anymore since they turned on PC gamer’s in general since bought out by Zenimax…. ID might as well be the next downgrade company next to Ubisoft… Which is sad because ID software was the reason I got into PC gaming.
It’s like the Unity version is a “mobile version”. Looks great for a mobile, kinda meh for a PC.
Lol, even UE4 temple is a mobile version! In fact the demo was created for the sole purpose to showcase UE4on mobile and even the scene is called Temple_Mobile. It uses the the bare minimum of what UE4 can do. UE4 temple IS MOBILE, Unity version looks like gameboy version .
Unity is one of the worse engines ever in terms of performance/graphics. Every game that would run at 200+ FPS on Unreal Engine 3 can hardly keep 60 FPS on Unity.
Are you talking about same conditions and settings?
No contest here. UR4 is far superior to Unity.
UE4 in this one looks way better 😀 but we have to wait for proper utilisation of New Unity
Cool! Now where are these Unreal Engine 4 based games ?
2 years.
Currently Daylight & Skara: The Blade Remains are only PC games to use UE4, but next year there will be more than 14 UE4 based games being released.
ue4 still in “beta” since february. now engine looks more complex and stable, so, you need a wait a bit, game will come after some month.
It’s like comparing a biplane to an F22.
Why is this a thing? (the comparison) Unity 15 would not produce either the quality nor the performance of EU4
check this out http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-2014-the-case-for-30fps-pc-gaming
maybe we can all stop with the 60fps bul**rap after reading this obvious piece
No competition since Unreal Engine 4 is superior.
Are you joking? You must be.
The Unity version.. UGH, MY EYES..
