Far Cry 4 – Patch 1.4 Is Now Available, Fixes ‘Black Screen’ Issue, Does Not Address SLI Black Shadows

Ubisoft today released the promised 1.4 patch for the PC version of Far Cry 4. According to its changelog, this patch fixes the “black screen” issue caused by certain USB peripherals, as well as the “grey screen” issue some PC players were may have encountered after the Outpost Master Mission.

Disappointingly enough, this patch does not address the stuttering or the SLI “black shadows” issues that have already been reported.

As always, this update will be auto-downloaded from Steam and UPLAY next time you start those clients.

Here is the complete changelog for this patch:

Fixes:
-Fixed the “black screen” issue PC players were experiencing when certain USB peripherals were plugged in.
-Fixed the “grey screen” issue some PC players were may have encountered after the Outpost Master Mission.
Additional Information:
-This patch was to address the issues players were having with the black screen caused by certain USB peripherals, as well as the grey screen after the Outpost Master Mission only.
-It doesn’t include any of the issues we have previously talked about in our Patch 2 Preview[forums.ubi.com], or that have been reported to our Dev Team for investigation. The black screen was high priority for us and we wanted to get this particular fix out ASAP.
-This is a PC only patch, and you should be seeing Version 1.4.0 in the bottom left of your screen from the main game menu. If you are playing it on any other console, you will have a different version number.
-The issues with black shadows for those of you running SLI is a seperate issue, and we’re working with Nvidia to correct this.

  1. “If you are playing it on any other console, …”
The heresy! PC is not just another console, it’s what consoles strive to be 🙂

JK … really liking FC4 so far (for some reason more than FC3)

      1. You guys are nuts.

My opinion is that FC4 is by far the best. It offers the most amount of gameplay. In FC2 fighting becomes a monotonous bore (and no wildlife), and in FC3 once you clear out the bases there are no more baddies to fight.

FC4 has s**t spawning all over the place so there’s always plenty going on. Plus you can re-play the outpost attacks, more uses for the wingsuit, hostage missions, missions where you need to take out the commander silently (so good!), plus there’s co-op and mountaineering which adds a much needed “Y” axis to the game, and of course tiny helicopter!

FC4 keeps everything I liked about Far Cry 2 and 3 and adds even more on top.

        1. It just gives you things to do for the sake of it, same things as Ubisoft games do anyway. Finding things to do is a lot better than having them handed on a plate. They give the player no imagination in their games, it’s just the usual collect junk, unlock weapons, unlock powers, gain points, unlock towers, save hostages that get killed by a random animal after you rescued them anyway, all gated gameplay.

  2. This game’s performance is fine, it’s just the stuttering that needs to be fixed. There is a fix but it makes the distant textures disappear.

  3. [Ubi] Megan said this a few hours ago on the Steam forums:

    ————————————–

The black screen issue was one of our highest priorities, but the “short list” of issues that we are currently investigating includes [in no particular order]:

    Problems with keybindings

    Stuttering

Black shadows with SLI users [Currently working with Nvidia]

Mouse AccelerationOnce we have more information we’ll let you know.

    ————————————–

  4. Bah! the 2 fixes im waiting for, SLI black shadows and rebind keys still are not here, so i guess I’ll continue to play the waiting game.

  5. The SLI black shadows are easy to fix but the rebind keys is an issue that stops me from playing as everytime I have to climb the rope I need to change the controls back to defaults which is tedious.

  6. It’s still broken..The ”old” 1.4 patch had an option ”Simulated” for fur.We should wait for patch 2.0 to see HairWorks.

    1. Really, I thought maybe the game was lowering the fur detail to fit the animals on screen, no wonder it did not look as impressive as I thought it be. Ah well I will make another video when the real fur patch is available.

  7. I guess it has become industry standard to have to wait 5-7 weeks before the game functions correctly after launch. Sometimes longer, sometimes never too.

      1. Don’t expect animals to spawn from nowhere everytime you throw bait, it’s just a broken mechanic. Also, being able to carry one weapon a the start and having to unlock slots is also pathetic. Ubisoft trying to add gametime by having to unlock everything, even the simplest of things.

As for realism, the location is real, guns are real, animals are real, vehicles are real so I don’t know why you shouldn’t expect realism.

        1. the whole skill tree in this game is pointless and pathetic. you should able to do most of them without any skills, they should’ve made special powers in that skill set not shooting while carrying a person. they just removed some in game mechanics and add them via skill points to fool people. but honestly i prefer it that way in terms of realism, most of the time realism kills the fun

    1. what do you mean by finding it ? steam/uplay automaticaly apply patches for you. if it didn’t happened verify your game again

Pictures of the Nvidia simulated fur using the old leaked 1.4 patch.
With 1-2 animals there is literally no noticeable performance impact, but my framerate would literally go down to 25-35 whenever i had 4+ animals on screen, it must be a bug.
This is running in 2560×1440 2XMSAA Highest settings & Volumetric fog (The godrays suck and make the lighting look like crap)
I don’t understand why there is no option to use Vol. fog with the godrays…
    Running on:
    x2 SLI GTX780 @1250MHz 7GHz memory
    4930k @4.7GHz w/ HT on
Lots of stuttering is all i can say, also framerate would drop below 60 a lot of times.

  9. I’m going to have to be honest here. I pirated this game cause I couldn’t deal with the incident I had with uplay. I was left unable to finish far cry 3 cause my uplau account suddenly stopped existing I tried everything (recover password contact dev etc.). If ubisoft stopped using uplay and I’d be able to play the game straight from steam then I’d probably buy this game.
