The Crew Will Support 5760*1080 Resolutions On PC, Targets 30FPS, Hard-Lock Via XML At 60FPS

The second closed beta phase of The Crew is currently under way and some new information about the PC version of the game has surfaced. According to Ubisoft, the development team targets a 1080p+30fps experience on all platforms (PC, Xbox One and PS4), though the PC will also support 5760*1080 for triple screen set-ups.

What’s really disappointing, however, is that the game is initially locked at 30fps and there is no in-game option to unlock the framerate. As Ubisoft noted, PC gamers will be able to increase the framerate to 60fps but there won’t be support for higher framerates (so say goodbye to 120fps and 144fps).

In order to increase the framerate lock to 60fps, PC gamers will have to edit the ‘PCScalability.xml’ file that is located inside the ‘C:\Users\\Documents\The Crew’ folder. Just search for the framerate option and change it from 30 to 60. Changing that option to anything higher than that will not work as that option will reset itself to 60.

Obviously, a lot of PC gamers are disappointed by this, especially after Ubisoft claiming that it will further optimize, enhance and support the PC versions of its titles.

The Crew is currently planned for a November 11th release.

  1. 60FPS is also buggy as all hell in the current beta and has massive stuttering problems.

  2. am pretty sure they siad it was going to be lockd at 30 a very very long time ago. moment i heard that, i wsa out, so no issue for me here.

  3. When I see locked at 30fps on a PC game, it’s an instant no buy for me. I’m not supporting that shit.

    1. Exactly, no one should, dont pay a cent for this POS!
Just d/l if you must, what A-Holes, will they ever learn!

  4. I don’t see how a 60 FPS lock disappoints “a lot of PC gamers”. There are about… I dunno, 5 people perhaps who game on 120Hz monitors. It’s pointless to sensationalize every little thing so frequently. I’d rather have a proper implementation of 60 FPS gameplay that works on the majority of systems than a botched up 120 FPS attempt.

    1. That’s not the point. Even if there are a proportionately smaller number of people gaming on 120/144hz monitors, it doesn’t mean the option shouldn’t be there for people to choose.

Why not just lock the resolution at 720p then?

      1. I’m not saying the option shouldn’t be there at all; I’m saying that a smooth gameplay experience at 60 FPS should be prioritized first before catering to a niche audience. There is absolutely no point in having exotic features that only a few people can take advantage of at the cost of mainstream PC gamers; especially after the Watch Dogs problems. And the reason (I think) they locked it at 60 is because Havok doesn’t play well above that, like in Skyrim’s case.

        1. LOL, there is nothing “exotic” about 120fps. 100Hz TV’s have been around for along time and 60hz+ monitors have been around for a long time

          1. So tell me, do you have a 120Hz monitor? Also, assuming you did, how do you plan to run a game like The Crew at 120 FPS using your mainstream 660 Ti?

          2. It’s not a “lot of people” when you consider all PC gamers. Hell, even hitting a constant 60 FPS is hard for most people, especially when you consider the more intensive games. Therefore, I’d rather have Ubisoft work towards stable glitch-free gameplay at 60 FPS rather than satiate the dream of some enthusiast gamer with a top-end rig looking to justify his hardware spending.

          3. Where do you get this glitch free gameplay from? Ubisoft are only saying it because they don’t want to write an engine which can scale, so it’s just laziness. You do know that smallers game with smaller budgets don’t have 60fps caps? My Goodness, even Risen 3 isn’t capped at 60fps and that’s old gen.

          4. Scale to what, 120 FPS? There’s also middleware like Havok involved which also need to be rewritten to comply with high framerates. The rendering engine alone doesn’t make the game.

Also, do notice I never mentioned any framerate “caps”… my point is that the game should be built around 60 FPS so that the majority can enjoy it, with headroom available for 120 FPS if possible.

      2. Because his logic is flawed and only consoles target capped frame-rates so dev can predict what’s going to render, on the PC you just can’t do that so you don’t lock the frame-rate.

          1. ” I dunno, 5 people perhaps who game on 120Hz monitors”

That’s just a pure stupid statement to make, even if it is meant to be funny because if 120/144hz monitors were not popular they wouldn’t make them, but they do so there is a market for them, just like 4K.

Also, NVIDIA wouldn’t make Titan Z if there wasn’t a market for them because it’s a serious risk but they know there are plenty of people who will by a Titan Z.

          2. The market isn’t big enough compared to people without one. Which is why the priority should be crisp gameplay at 60 FPS, before venturing into 120 territory. Also, you’re correct about a lot of people buying Titan Z. However, not all of them are gamers. People also buy the Titan Z for CAD because it’s cheaper compared to the more powerful Quadro solutions. However, at the moment 120 FPS is mainly a buzzword within PC gaming circles specifically, so the comparison is unfair.

          3. 5 people, lol. The way i see it higher frames are more important than higher resolutions now especially with the new Dynamic Super Resolution technology in place. 30fps is unplayable and 60 is just great. But 120-144 is magic and i wish all games had that option.

            Ps: FCK YOU UBISOFT!!!

        1. The majority of PC games don’t have 4K but devs are still adding support for it, same with SLI but the simple fact is that devs get help or money to do it. PC games are not the “majority” but we still get the most games. Studios do it because they want to see their game looking the best it can be and locking the frame-rate is just easy for them to do and they clearly don’t want their game to be the best it can be.

Also why don’t you try getting a 120Hz monitor and seeing if you’re happy with 60fps, then you can actually make such statements.

          1. “The majority of PC games don’t have 4K but devs are still adding support for it”

            — What others apart from Ryse? And 4K is a resolution… any game can support it. 4K textures are another matter,

“PC games are not the “majority” but we still get the most games.”

            — I was talking about the “majority of PC gamers”… not simply majority of gamers, which includes console gamers.

“Also why don’t you try getting a 120Hz monitor and seeing if you’re
happy with 60fps, then you can actually make such statements.”

            — Simply getting a monitor won’t do it. You need a comparable graphics card as well. Furthermore, I never said there’s no benefit to 120Hz gaming. My point is that the mainstream hardware has yet to catch up with the technology. Hence the priority should be getting the game to run properly at 60 FPS before venturing into 120 FPS and f*cking up at 60.

          2. There is no priority for frame-rates on the PC because it’s the hardware that does that, it’s not a fixed platform like consoles.

A lot of games do, AC4 Black Flag, Watch Dogs market 4K support as newer titles. The support from the resolution comes from the fact that older 4k monitors are split in 2 screens, so effectly it’s seeing a 4K screen as dual screen, newer 4K monitors are a single screen.

          3. “The support from the resolution comes from the fact that older 4k
monitors are split in 2 screens, so effectly it’s seeing a 4K screen as
dual screen, newer 4K monitors are a single screen.”

That’s pretty interesting, I didn’t know that. Could you explain how that would work… as in splitting the resolution over two screens without changing the aspect ratio? And any examples of monitors which do this?

          4. We get it, you dont have a powerful rig enough to push for 60fps let alone 120 and hating on the “minority” of Pc gamers who can manage it. There are surely so many people out there who play on 120-144hz and probably more than the ones on 4k monitors. Its simpy the next evolution in gaming because the impact is much greater than the difference between 1080p to 4k. I dont know wtf you are trying to defend here…

          5. And I don’t know what your comment’s context is. My original comment clearly stated that the majority (not just lots) of PC gamers do not play at 120Hz, therefore it’s better for a game to be optimized for 60 FPS entirely, instead of targeting 120 and doing a poor job. I have not said games “should never ever” support 120Hz at all.

    2. Well, devs design their game for console frame-rate caps, so if they unlock the frame-rate for the PC version it breaks, so it’s their design or code that’s broken in the first place.

  5. a lot of games are having the framerate locked down and tied into the game speed itself. so if you try to increase the framerate, the game runs too fast. i think its because of all the motion capture in modern games.

    1. Most people don’t want logic… especially not some people here.

having said that, this is a racing game, which doesn’t require motion capture tweaking. For a racing game, 60 fps should not be a problem. Just depends on how much work they’re willing to put in for optimization.

        1. because “some” people rather just start Flamewars and call each other names like the little girls from third grade they are.

    2. That would imply that they did motion capture at 60 fps for a 30 fps console game. Isn’t the game 30 fps on consoles? If you can play 30 fps animations at 60 fps then you can also play them at 250. I’d bet more on things like physics and script triggers. I recently played AC Brotherhood at 144 fps and noticed a few sections where the high framerate broke scripts. The flight controls wouldn’t work and the final boss fight wouldn’t start. Limiting to 30 fps everything worked again. Animations were never affected though.

  6. even the screenshot looks terrible i mean the lead grey car doesnt even look connected to the ground at all…

  7. I own a 144hz monitor and a 120hz monitor, So I have no further interest in playing the beta anymore and nor would I ever consider buying the game.

    1. get a 60hz one just in case 🙂

anyways, console ports at 120+ hz are pretty rare these days, its usually thing for PC oriented tittles and exclusives , so not really a surprise.

      1. Sold my old 60hz monitor to a friend, also there are plenty of ports that support high refresh rate monitors.

      2. lol xbox avatar to piss off the braindamaged sony ponys who will call you a xbot if you dont downright lick sonys dck?

    2. You shouldent, just d/l this crap if you must. Those faggots at UBI dont deserve a cent at how the treat us pc gamers!

  8. in the mean time after the sh*t show about Age of Empires Online, M$ still loves you by releasing a new and more sh*ttier version of it called “Age of Empires: Castle Siege” – it’s basically a facebook game but only exclusively on Win8 and mobiles. lol

    coming september 2014

    here is the trailer:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=at2uNoEaynI

  9. This game indeed runs and looks superb 60 FPS stable maxed out on my PC.
but i don’t know why by default in XMP it’s set it to 30 FPS …are u nuts Ubisoft?

  10. WTF are up with those morons. Do right ny Pc gamers bla bla.
Here we have it again, the same sh*ity UBI SOFT crap, to hell with em!

  11. I don’t have a conslow, I have a gaming PC ready for any game you can throw at it, and we’re still getting 30fps? I’ll pass.

  12. And now we have G-Sync so I hope that nVidia starts getting those F*CKS to stop all this crap with locked framerate!

    To hell with UBI!

  13. Instead of complaining here and some randomly shitty forums thinking we’re doing the world a great service, what about going directly to the producers for the games? They do listen, if told, by a lot of people, however, gamer’s prefer whining like small girls in comment sections instead, because taking some sort of action is hard.

  14. Yeah no thanks, The 1st time I saw the game I thought about getting it then came the MMO always online crap which put me off, Inbetween came Watch_Dogs and all the other dirty tactics they pulled in order to sell a couple more Console copies , then AC Unity’s apparent Downgrade followed by we care for PC Players PR stunt to now this.

Ubisoft Obvsiouly doesn’t want my money.

  15. It’s clear now Ubisoft likes to piss people off, this game is targeted at
kids who don’t know the difference.

  16. At least they managed 60 FPS on PC. Most games from them never reaches anything as high as 120 and 144 FPS. Not even with most powerful GPUs available. Most powerful GPUs only handle 80 FPS on games from Ubisoft. So we should really be thankful for the 60 FPS, hopefully without so much lag spikes and slowdowns compared to Need For Speed Rivals.

  17. Uhg. That’s nice they have higher resolutions, but why the archaic framerate limitation? This is 2014. 120hz+ monitors are normal. In fact, people with HFR monitors arer FAR more common than those with mult-monitor racing setups.

I started playing Titanfall again with the framecap removed and it’s GLORIOUS. Changes the game completely.

  18. please, please dont lock the framerate on pc! why do devs lock games at 30 or 60 fps? just let the players decide with vsync if framerate should be locked or not! think about people with 120 or 144hz monitors and really powerful machines!. i cannot understand why there should be a support for 5760 * 1080 pixuls, but not for 60fps+… I just… cannot… understand this decision ;(

  19. Ubisoft charge £49.99 for their games now on PC, I’m glad I don’t want Ubisoft games so badly because their prices are stupid.

  20. 60fps is plenty fine. Most people are not overly sensitive nannies to even notice higher frames anyway. Also Since when did opening a document to alter some settings to unlock something ever bother a PC gamer?
