Star Citizen Features Really Detailed Ships – Scratches & Dents Remain, Materials Degrade Over Time

During this year’s Gamescom, Dualshockers had the chance to talk with Cloud Imperium’s Technical Designer, Dan Tracy, and revealed some interesting new information about this upcoming PC exclusive title. As Dan told Dualshockers, Star Citizen will pack ships that are made by 100,000 polygons, as well as really high detailed textures (4096×4096).

In addition, Dan revealed that all ships will receive damage that will stay over time. While players will be able to paint their ships to remove light scratches or completely replace parts of them in order to make them look as good as new ones, scratches and dents will build up as the materials degrade over time.

Star Citizen looks gorgeous, and below you can view a video with off-cam footage from the game’s Gamescom 2014 build.

Enjoy and kudos to Sikandar Ali for bringing this to our attention!

      1. I got the Hornet, too. I started off with the 300i but it had really dinky firepower, so I took another ship someone gave me and sold it, then did a chassis upgrade on the 300i to turn it into the Hornet and keep my LTI.

        1. I don’t have an interest in racing. Yet. And besides, it’s not like my standard 300i would be much good anyway. You’ll need the racing variant to win anything, and even that would probably get smoked by the M50.

  1. I’m about $120 in the SC hole, but even if the game turns out to be crap I wouldn’t mind. Half the fun is just imagining what the game could be. There’s probably a zero percent chance the game will live up to expectations, but at the very least we all got together and shared a nice dream for a few years 🙂

  2. I think Dan Tracy wanted to say 300,000 . The normal ships like hornet are made up of 300,000 polygons (according to website and Chris’ interviews) , while character models contain 100,000 polygons . Or may be he is talking about smaller , racing ships like M50 .
