The team behind the best PlayStation 4 emulator, shadPS4, has released a new version of it. According to the devs, shadPS4 v0.16.0 is their largest update to date. So, let’s take a closer look at it.
shadPS4 v0.16.0 introduces the foundation of a new configuration architecture. This modernized system simplifies settings management, improves game-specific configuration handling, and lays the groundwork for future features.
This new version also introduces an OpenAL-based audio backend. This work establishes a more flexible and portable audio foundation for future improvements while continuing to expand compatibility with PS4 audio functionality.
shadPS4 v0.16.0 also adds initial camera emulation support. This will bring them closer to supporting titles and applications that rely on PlayStation Camera functionality. Not only that but we get local multiplayer support. Multiple users can now enjoy supported games together through the new local multiplayer infrastructure, further expanding gameplay possibilities within the emulator.
And that’s not all. The team has also made some graphical tweaks and improvements. For instance, they’ve added numerous Vulkan fixes that address validation errors, synchronization issues, resource destruction order problems, swapchain handling, and presentation stability. These changes significantly reduce crashes and improve reliability across a wide range of hardware.
Furthermore, the team has added several fixes that target GPU synchronization hazards, stale GPU memory handling, write-after-write scenarios, image layout transitions, and memory protection updates. Together, these changes improve rendering correctness and reduce graphical corruption.
shadPS4 v0.16.0 comes with a large collection of mipmapping fixes that resolve texture quality issues and rendering artifacts in various titles. Support has also been expanded for more advanced pipeline configurations, including additional tessellation and geometry shader combinations required by modern PS4 titles. Plus, the team has upgraded the shader recompiler and GCN decoder. This will benefit games that heavily utilize PlayStation 4 Pro (“Neo”) GPU features.
As said, this is a major new update for shadPS4. So, if you are currently planning to play a PS4 game on PC, I suggest using this latest version. You can go ahead and download it from this link. Below, you can also find a video in which GAMESMARK tested numerous games with it.

Still, the PC platform won him over consoles. That was mainly due to 3DFX and its iconic dedicated 3D accelerator graphics card, Voodoo 2.
