Earlier this month, we informed you about a total conversion mod for Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, called Grand Theft Auto: Carcer City. And, a couple of days ago, its creator revealed that a free demo will come out on March 9th. Moreover, we have a new video that shows off the South Island of Carcer City.
Grand Theft Auto Carcer City aims to have the biggest and most detailed city ever seen in the 3D-era GTA games. The story follows a former police officer who gets pulled into Carcer City’s dangerous criminal world. The city is falling apart—businesses are closing, important systems are failing, gangs are taking control, and staying alive is never guaranteed.
Going into even more details, the mod drops players into a completely reimagined world inspired by Detroit, Pittsburgh, Cleveland, and the dark levels from Manhunt. Every street will show signs of struggle, from broken factories and dangerous back alleys to glowing neon bars trying to survive in the ruins. The story takes place in 2001 and features an original plot set in the harsh, violent world of Carcer City. You’ll explore a city filled with gangs, corruption, and people fighting to get by. In this broken place, the only way to rise is to be tough enough to take every chance you get.
Since this is Take-Two we’re talking about, I wouldn’t be surprised if they shut the project down. In my opinion, the modding team should have waited until the demo was ready. Then they could have released this trailer at the same time. By that point, gamers would have already downloaded it, and even if Take-Two sent a DMCA notice, fans would probably re-upload it anyway.
As I said, this is a mod for Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. Thus, you should temper your expectations when it comes to its visuals. This already looks dated by today’s standards. Nevertheless, I’m certain that a lot of PC gamers will overlook these dated graphics.
The new video that the modder released packs 13 minutes of gameplay. As such, it can give you a pretty good idea of what Grand Theft Auto Carcer City will look like.
Speaking of GTA: San Andreas, here are some other cool mods for it. Multi Theft Auto is an open-source software project that adds full online support to Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. Modders are also experimenting with RTX Remix Path Tracing. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas Mission Maker is another cool mod that lets you create your own missions. And then we have the SA_DirectX 3.0 Beta Overhaul Mod that adds SSR, SSAO, and Rain Drops. Finally, you can download this mod that allows you to play it in VR.
Enjoy the video and stay tuned for more!
