Modder ‘woodboy90’ has just released the first version of his RTX Remix Path Tracing Mod for Quake 3: Arena. This mod adds real-time Path Tracing to this iconic multiplayer Quake game. So, if you are a fan of it, you should definitely check it out.
This first version of the mod remasters 3 maps. These are the Q3DM1, Q3DM6, and Q3DM10. It also brings modern PBR-style textures and ray-tracing compatible materials to the game.
In future versions, the modder plans to remaster all the remaining maps. He also plans to add some high-quality 3D models for players and objects, as well as remaster the UI/HUD textures.
You can go ahead and download this RTX Remix Path Tracing Mod from this link. Be sure to follow its installation guide, as there are a few steps you must take in order to install it. For instance, you must use a different method to change your in-game resolution. To do that, you’ll have to open baseq3/autoexec.cfg, and look for the following lines:
r_customWidth “xxxx”
r_customHeight “xxxx”
Then, you’ll have to replace xxxx with your resolution. The default included in this mod is for 1080p. So, for playing at 4K, you’ll have to use these:
r_customWidth “3840”
r_customHeight “2160”
