Halo: Campaign Evolved Announced – First Details & Screenshots

Microsoft has just announced the rumored remake of the first Halo game in Unreal Engine 5. Halo: Campaign Evolved will be rebuilt with high-definition visuals, updated cinematics, and refined controls. So, below you can find its first details and screenshots, as well as its debut trailer.

Halo: Campaign Evolved is a faithful modernized remake of Halo: Combat Evolved’s campaign. The game will have the entire campaign of the first Halo game, as well as three brand-new prequel missions featuring the Master Chief and Sgt. Johnson.

Players will also get a broader arsenal of weapons, vehicles, enemies, and gameplay-modifying “Skulls”. These Skulls are optional modifiers that can change combat in fun and challenging ways. Moreover, there will be fresh tactics and endless replayability.

Halo: Campaign Evolved will support solo and up to 4-player online co-op. There will be full crossplay and cross-progression support. This means that PC gamers will be able to play with their console friends, whether they are on PlayStation or Xbox.

Halo Studios has also brought some QoL improvements. Players will now be able to sprint, aim, and engage with refined precision. For the first time in Halo: CE, you can wield 9 additional iconic weapons from across the series, including the Energy Sword, Battle Rifle, and Needle Rifle.

Microsoft plans to release Halo: Campaign Evolved sometime in 2026.

  1. Microsoft is like that nostalgic old fool who keeps repeating his VHS of his prom and is always amazed to see it even though everyone else is tired of it.

    1. Pretty accurate description but I'd like to add that gaylo was never good to begin with. Giant ugly weapons that take half the screen, they look ugly and childish and sound weak.

Horrible franchise with nothing but ugly, boring and generic games.

    2. On point and very true, however keep in mind that Halo is just a vehicle for Microsoft to print even more money, especially now that the much larger PlayStation crowd can be milked, too.

Notice how Microsoft has zero issues with killing off its most loyal Xbox fans in the process.

Anyone still remember the Xbot who used to visit this site regularly?

Haven't seen him around here anymore for a long time now…

      1. Not that hard to improve on visuals of a 2 decade old game…this is strike 2 in that regard anyways, they already failed with the Master Chief collection…the art design continues to get lost with muh realistic graphics that kill any identity the OG has.

      2. no it isnt, the current master chief collection remaster also looks substantially better graphically and it was still a pretty horrid remaster.

There are many issues with all of this.

        1. It's mixing Halo Infinite assets with Unreal store and AI created assets.
There's no artistic cohesion to this, it looks terrible.

  2. Why even remake a game if you're going to have zero respect to the core design principles of the original, it just comes off as insulting to anyone who was a fan and sh*ts all over the original developers legacy.

Halo THE game known to have so many poor imitations because they copied from it without any thought to it and they have and are doing the same with this remake by putting contemporary bullshit that doesn't belong with zero thought or reason to the originals design.

  3. Look at that horrible blur on military troops when you get warthog due to upscaling and God knows x? Framegen. UE5 Pft.,Why play this when you already have MasterChef collection? This looks no better than that. And oh boy that boring roundtable dev talk. Last I remember splinter cell remake had similar promotion. Look where are they now. Rip Halo

  4. This REMAKE is really useless. The game is very old and can't offer anything new. Plus UE? it's a shame so the only new thing here will be stuttering. I can't help but think those weapons are very big, the gun in your hand looks like a huge cannon. They released Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary and that's more than enough. They should have released a free update to 4K and 120fps when they wanted to remind you of the old game. They could have invested that time and money in a new HALO game. And not a REMAKE. When I really liked the HALO brand for Seasons 1,2,3 and then when they added newer parts I didn't even finish them because I was bored.
If they wanted to bring something new they could have made a HALO where you could fly in real time from planet to planet since HALO already had one mission in space and it looked pretty good if they wanted to innovate they could have done this and not a REMAKE of the old game. On the other hand, HALO 1 is nothing revolutionary. Although KillZone 2 does not belong to MS, I would rather release that game as a REMAKE with Multiplayer, but it was a great game and it is. I still play it today through an emulator. Since Sony has already buried its PS3 brands.

  5. Audiences renew, so it'll be an attractive entry point to the franchise for the entirely new demographic born since the original of kids and teens who wouldn't really touch older games yet otherwise. Add to that Playstation users too since nowadays it's not an exclusive anymore and yeah, it makes business sense.

    1. Also, For an authentic experience, made with UE5, so that new players can experience same lag, stutters, we used to play with on our pentium 4, 256mb ram and 64mb gpu. Worry not, we made sure it will be present regardless how beefy your PC specs are. Enjoy halololo

      1. I remember back then the one setting in weaker GPUs that turned a perfectly playable experience into a slideshow with single digit FPS was the specular lighting. Disable that and you're good to go. I bet this demake however will still stutter badly even at the absolute lowest settings.

        1. Yeah, I remember it was the first ever implementation of shader model 1 and 1.1 and I had a VIA s3unichrome card which doesn't support it fully. So in every game I had to on/off each setting to see which one caused lag. FF 1y later, my friends got Intel HD graphics and they could run all those games max and I was shocked. The surfaces, metals had shinyness and I thought why I never saw that in my pc haha. New kids won't understand how we witnessed games, graphics and technology grew along with us.

  6. They can't create anything new. We all know why they did this. Rewrite history. I can almost guarantee the new levels added will be used to retcon the Humans being the forerunner. That was the original story before 343 took over and made a convoluted Stupid scifi story of ancient humans fighting the forerunners.

Its in preparation for their inevitable Halo 7 game. We know they are adding in another pointless race of aliens from halo infinite ending. 343 are hack frauds.

  7. Splitscreen coop…. but only on console even though a PC can support an arbitrary number of controllers or even multiple keyboards and mice…. and only 2 players even though older Halo games had 4 player split screen despite TVs and monitors being tiny back then.

They are taking the piss. There is no way they aren't doing this on purpose any more.

  8. Good. I played Infinite first with modern mechanics and it was too jarring to go back and play Halo collection for me.

        1. I did a couple of months ago, Halo 1 is a classic but pales in relation to other FPS on PC at the time, it was OK for consoles i guess.
Halo 2 is what i would expect from a sequel and 3 improves upon it but going back to the sense of scale of 1 which makes it the most solid game in the trilogy. Reach is fine and the powerups are whatever, 4 is an abortion and Cortana's design is the only positive thing i can think about it. Overrated series, but still the best you can get in FPS when your standards are set on console.

  9. The whole thing is noisy, as if it was done by AI and those Trees are from 2025 or a copy of a passport from 2021.Halo is not a bad game, but it is not a good game either. It is best played in COOP where people talk about their lives in the PARTY chat and play at the same time and don't notice the game at all because it is so empty, boring and soulless. The only great thing about HALO is the music and even that was recorded by an external music studio, the orchestra. I say this because I bought all HALO games from the first to the limited edition and consoles, whether it is the limited X360 or XBOX SERIES X. Just look at the F2P Halo multiplayer, there has been no news about the game for a long time and almost no one plays it, so it plays but there are very few players at such a mark of 3000, so the game is free.

I can't help but hate this engine since the release of Unreal Engine 5.They could have used CRYENGINE for the game, it would have fit a HALO game better. Even though the Remake is a complete waste of this game. They could have made a LEGO Halo game or invested the time and money into a Remaster of Gears of War 2 and 3 that they would also release on PC and PS5.

  10. 32 Rounds Rile Capacity is criminal
Also UE5 and the stutter fest you can clearly see in the gameplay videos
If even Microsoft can't get UE5 to run properly, then it's the engine problem. Tim Sweeny comment about devs not being able to optimize their games is not 100% correct

  11. this is why i dont bother with those remasters and remakes, because they make another one a few months later, its insufferable to always have the outdated version.

  12. > Unreal Engine 5 generic assets everywhere
    > Flickering and stuttering
    > Pop-in
    > 32 round AR
    > Gunshots sound like nerf guns
    > Sprint (ADHD Zoomers will defend this)
