Nixxes has released Title Update 5 for the PC version of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, and shared its full patch notes. According to the changelog, Patch 5 comes with numerous performance and optimization improvements. So, let’s take a closer look at what it brings to the table.
Patch 5 updates DirectStorage to version 1.2.3. So, in theory, you should get fewer stutters when traversing the city. Or at least that’s what you’d expect from a newer version of DirectStorage.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 uses GPU decompression for DirectStorage. As such, it can hit hard the VRAM of a GPU. So, let’s hope that this latest version of DirectStorage will run better on GPUs with less than 8GB of VRAM.
Update 5 also optimizes performance when playing as Venom, fighting Symbiotes and in cinematics with Venom and Symbiotes. Moreover, it packs improvements to screen space reflections. As such, you won’t get a lot of flickers when looking at large bodies of water from a near-straight angle. So, good news for those that do not want to use the RT reflections.
Nixxes says this update improves performance and makes the game more stable. It also includes extra fixes for DLSS Ray Reconstruction. Plus, there are various fixes for ray-traced ambient occlusion and ray-traced shadows.
As I said before, I haven’t tested the latest patched version of the game. However, I did test it when it got support for DLSS 4 MFG. DLSS 4 Multi-Frame Gen worked fine, though there were some noticeable artifacts with X3 and X4.
As we always do, I will test the latest version of the game in December 2025. That’s when we select our best and worst optimized PC games of each year. Until then, I hope Nixxes will do everything in its power to improve it.
Like always, Steam will download this update the next time you launch its client. Below you can also find its complete changelog.

I gave the first one a shot, and it was one of the most mind-numbing, repetitive snoozefests I’ve ever slogged through. Cringe as well.
Sweet Baby inc detected. Donald Trump and Elon Musk will send terrorist Kim Belair and the other scum to Guantanamo Bay soon where they all belong, I hope.
Looks like this behavior is not going to stop any time soon. Patch 1, patch 2, patch 3… it's clear they sell you a semi-finished product. I don't know how PC gamers accept to be treated like sh*t for no reasons. Don't support this a$$holes ffs.
This game is very demanding at max settings with full RT. I had 35-45 fps at 4K DLSSQ with maxed out settings. However with high settings (including high RT) my frame rate improved drastically and I had over 60fps even at 4K native. People who refuse to tweak ingame settings are going to need the RTX5090 to play games at 4K with over 60fps.
How will it do on a 5080? I deliberately decided not to get a 5090 with all the fire-potential. Not going to burn my house down for any game, period!
On my RTX4080S (OC'ed to 60TF) I get comparable results to stock 5080 (58TF) in many games, so I think you will get at least 60fps at 4K native with high settings (and high RT preset). With DLSSQuality around 80-90fps. With FGx2 on top of that 130-150fps. The game rund very well with high settings, but maxed out RT settings are brutal.
It runs 70+ on 4080 4k all maxed, dlss balance.
