Take a look at Fallout 4 with over 300 mods and Reshade Ray Tracing

Digital Dreams has shared a video, showcasing Fallout 4 with over 300 mods and Reshade Ray Tracing running in 4K with over 60fps. This video will give you an idea of what an ultra modded version of Fallout 4 can look like.

Now the good news here is that Digital Dreams has shared the list of mods they used. So, if you want to make F4 look similar to it, you can download the modlist from this link.

As said, the YouTuber has also used Reshade Ray Tracing in order to enhance the game’s graphics. To be more precise, they used NiceGuy’s Complete RT Shader. This is said to be one of the most advanced Screen space Ray Tracing Shaders, letting you add GI, AO, Matte, and Glossy Reflections to your games. And yes, as you may have guessed, this RT Mod is behind a Patreon wall. It sucks but hey, it is what it is.

Fallout 4 came out in 2015 on PC. And, for an almost ten-year-old game, it can look great. That is obviously when it’s been heavily modded. Yes yes, there are some noticeable pop-ins. But, let’s not forget that F4 wasn’t a visually impressive game when it came out. So, the fact that it can look great in 2024 is quite an achievement.

Now if you don’t want to download this modlist, you can check out these other mods for it. You can find an LOD mod that reduces distant objects/shadows/textures pop-ins. Then we have the Disk Cache Enabler Mod. There’s also a mod that adds ragdoll physics and collisions to dead bodies. Another amazing mod is this one that fixes the game’s long loading times. DirectHit is a mod that overhauls the AI of enemies. And let’s not forget this mod that adds real locational damage to all enemies. You can also download an 8K Texture Pack, or this 41GB 4K Texture Pack which optimizes all 40,962 textures. Finally, there is a mod that adds support for NVIDIA DLSS 2, AMD FSR 2 and Intel XeSS.

Have fun!

  1. Everything looks flat and lifeless. Boot up the vanilla Fallout 4 or look at the picture used in the article to realize how utterly disgusting this footage looks.
The person who runs this channel is mentally ill.

      1. I think they’re also using a temporal upscaler like DLSS or FSR 2 in order to upscale 4K to 8K, which just ends up leaving you with especially blurry video that’s lacking detail. It would have looked better recorded at 4K native resolution with FXAA instead of TAA (or better yet with SMAA or CMAA2 injected with ReShade).

    1. This isn’t real raytracing, it’s simulated by a shader that doesn’t have access to most of the rendering and lighting information, and is just using the depth buffer and differences in light and dark areas of each rendered frame to guestimate where lighting is and where it’s being projected. I’ve tried these ReShade shaders before, and they have a fairly minimal effect, and they don’t actually improve the look of the lighting at all.

  2. I watched the first 2 minutes.

The skybox shows that it is either dawn or dusk, with most light appearing near the horizon.

So your environment should have long cast shadows, the color temperature should be relatively warm, and everything should still be relatively dark. But the game’s lighting shows very bright cold diffuse light, which only happens in the middle of the day with a very cloudy overcast, which aren’t present in your skybox, so your lighting looks completely wrong.

Why does every PC mod maker have the IQ of a potato. Look outside for 2 minutes before playing with a game’s lighting.

When people argue PC is better because of mods I have to laugh, outside of Quality of Life mods, mods suck. The benefit of PC is the ability to multitask, cheaper game prices and more game choice, not these garbage mods.

  3. whats more amazing is that none of the mods conflict each other and the game just…runs.
When i try to mod FO4 with just 7 mods game crashes in a instant – with 100 mod errors at once..

    1. oh come on its not that bad, as long as you know what you are doing, there are modlists that you can use if you dont want to do it manually. Ever heard of wabbajack?

    2. You probably missed a dependency, or installed mods that aren’t compatible with each other. Installing mods for Bethesda games does require a little bit of knowledge on how to do it, but once you get over that hurdle you can have a lot of fun.

  4. Can’t believe that this game is almost 10 years old and I still have zero interest in playing it.
