Revolution Team is currently working on a next-gen remaster mod for Grand Theft Auto: Vice City in the GTA 4 RAGE Engine. This mod aims to be faithful to the original game and retain its art style. Below you can also find its debut trailer, so be sure to watch it.
GTA Vice City Nextgen Edition will be a complete transfer of all missions from the original game to the RAGE Engine. The mod currently targets a 2025 release date. So yeah, it will be a while until we can actually play it.
The mod will have an improved version of the city – and weapons – from the Definitive Edition. All the cars from the Xbox version of the original game will be present here. Additionally, all the models of all characters and peds will be from the Xbox version. From what we know, there are no plans to increase their polygon count. However, all 3D characters will have better textures.
All the original radio stations will also be present in this unofficial remaster. And although the project will have the cut-scenes and the style of the original game, it will also pack better particle effects and some lighting improvements.
In short, this will be a faithful remaster of Vice City. Also, since it will be a mod for GTA4, we can assume that it won’t be taken down by Take-Two. Or at least we hope so.
Speaking of GTA5, we suggest taking a look at these free mods for it. For instance, we have this mod that overhauls over 70 side characters. Then there is this Real Life Beverly Hills Mod. NaturalVision Evolved Mod is a graphical overhaul mod that aims to improve the game’s lighting. In August, we also shared a mod that restored all the songs that were cut from the game. And then we have all the amazing mods that JulioNIB has shared over the past few years.
Enjoy and stay tuned for more!

How naive you are, you’re writing gaming articles day and night and still act like you don’t know how Rockstar react to fan-made stuff, they took down less than that
He is not naive, he (and maybe other game bloggers) is maliciously putting this fan games on TT lawyers radar. It’s best to play dumb than admit it.
Not a single soul on this planet plays ANY of these fourth rate “mods”. No one.
Not even you John.
You mean mods in general, or just the “fourth rate” kind?
We both know hows this one will end up John. Cease and desist.
Congratulations! You just alerted TT lawboys
Are you talking to John or the dev team?
Trying to include the original music in the radio stations is enough to get record companies on board with a C & D.
Fools! They should’ve kept quiet until after it was finished. Once these games are out in the wild there’s no stopping their spread.
Step 1. Random team announces Fan Remake/Mod/Remaster
Step 2. Random team announces they got a C&D from rights holder and cancels project.
And the cycle continues.
Anyone really wanting to make something and get released works on it privately and releases out of nowhere, so that once it releases on the internet even if they get C&D others will keep uploading it on al kinds of places. The rest are people that want internet points and fame while releasing nothing of substance most of the time.
They never learn
The goal is to be recruited by a company, not to release something.
They learn just fine, this scheme works well.
YUUUUP!
“internet points and fame”… and sometimes the hope of a job offer.
Meanwhile in Take2 HQ:

GTA6 At Home.
Goodbuy Forever it was nice watching the video.
I just finished the DE trilogy a couple weeks ago and from the qol standpoint it was nice to get the patched up version. I also have the old pc versions with mods installed and the problem was the camera in 3/vc never found a full 6 axis camera mod for either of those in all situations like the standard for a long time now.
Apart from the soundtrack VC is actually the thinnest game from that trilogy, story is tp thin and very short without the asset padding which gatekeeps the progression. I’m pretty sure it’s the smallest map and in a water world you still die in water. Story is some rando gets out of prison and gets sent to sofl with lots of cash to buy lots of drugs, seems a bit nonsensical, ambushed, needs to get money back to bosses who somehow trusted him w it right out of prison then proceeds to build empire of legit businesses, very weird. 4 could use a nextgen update and refresh but it’s so big with the dlc and detailed world I doubt RSTT is too interested.
It already looks dated, will probably release in 15 years be half baked and buggy, and will for sure be taken down by Rockstar on top.
This type of projects are a waste of time to the gaming audience in general, they only good for the people developing it, to expand their knowledge.
It’s a mod for GTA IV, you can add additional video where current modders are showcasing it on stream and answer questions

Wonderful web site. Lots of useful info here. I’m sending it to a few friends ans additionally sharing in delicious. And obviously, thanks to your effort!
rage engine is already like 15 years old
This is GTA 4 water, not GTA 5 water. They’re making a “next-gen remaster” of a 2002 game using 2008 technology… in 2024, to be released in 25 at the earliest. Back when hardware still evolved a bit faster GTA 4 AND 5 would already be considered “retro” by now.
This is the same level of foolishness as Skyblivion, except worse because of the C&D stuff others pointed out. Even if they could make it it would be pointless because the tech is already severely outdated, and even if that didn’t deter anyone they will still be stopped by lawyers from releasing anything.
Agree this “next gen remaster” looks extremely dated IMHO even worse than GTA definitive edition (gta trilogy).
If people wants to play remastered version of VIce City I recommend Vice City definitive-edition-project mod pack. This mod pack includes high resolution textures, assets from the Xbox version of Vice City and many essential improvements, but still retains the original atmosphere and look of the game.
I woudn’t call the tech “dated” when games released today still lack features from these games.
Hi, I really enjoy your article. Could we continue to communicate about your posts on AOL? I need a specialist in this field to solve a problem I’m having. Perhaps you could be that person. I look forward to speaking with you.
would be more impressive in Unreal 5 Engine graphics
Look at the game models, probably not what they are going for.
In my memory, it looked already exactly like that back in 2003.
Which… is a good thing, I guess? Cos at least, they preserve the original look. lol
But really, the gains very minimal.
Also, I know that everybody absolutely hate the official remasters (Definitive editions), but the fact is that they did update them recently, and they’re now definitely better than the atrocious first releases. If only they could keep updating them, they would become the ultimate versions. Besides, mods fix lots of things.
By the way, it’s the same for the recent abysmal Kingpin re-release.
They updated it (v1.04 now) and people say that now it’s great.
I still think that this “HD” release was unnecessary, and in my opinion, it’s definitely not meant to be the “ultimate version” which replaces the original, but it’s a nice alternative. Definitely don’t replace your original game.

I mean, I don’t really mind that it does look like it was released in the late 2000s, it’s just like a simple updated Vice City.

See? The definitive edition, which could have been a MILLION times better, still looks better than this rage engine port.

Learn from this guy pls https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hqwP6uuYOWo
It’s based on the fake assumption that the devs working for free and with almost zero expectation of finantial rewards are totally devoted to bring their hobbies to release date.
I mean, some of those people exist, like the new Zelda remake which only had publicity at release date, but other than that…
I liked it as much as you did. Even though the picture and writing are good, you’re looking forward to what comes next. If you defend this walk, it will be pretty much the same every time.
