Bethesda has removed Denuvo from Doom Eternal

Bethesda has just released a new update for Doom Eternal that has removed the Denuvo anti-tamper tech from it. Doom Eternal came out in March 2020, meaning that it took Bethesda over three years in order to remove Denuvo from it.

Doom Eternal is a fast-paced shooter and the sequel to Doom 2016. The game featured some gameplay tweaks and enhancements that made its combat differ from that of its prequel.

In June 2021, id Software and Bethesda added Ray Tracing effects to it. Disappointingly, though, those RT effects did not overhaul its lighting system. Instead, id Software used Ray Tracing in order to enhance the game’s reflections.

Now the good news here is since the game runs incredibly well on PC, a lot of gamers can enjoy these ray-traced reflections with high framerates. For instance, an NVIDIA RTX 3080 can push an average of 90fps in native 4K with these Ray Tracing effects.

Alongside Bethesda, Warner Bros, Capcom, Bandai Namco, and Square Enix have removed Denuvo from their older games.

For instance, SE has removed Denuvo from  The Diofield ChronicleVALKYRIE ELYSIUMTRIANGLE STRATEGY and Forspoken. Moreover, both Octopath Traveler and its sequel no longer use it.

On the other hand, Capcom has removed Denuvo from  Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin and Resident Evil Village. Warner Bros has also removed it from Mortal Kombat 11. And then we have Bandai Namco who has removed it from Tekken 7 and NARUTO TO BORUTO: SHINOBI STRIKER.

Have fun, everyone!

    1. It has nothing to do with Starfield. Bethesda had previously removed Denuvo from other older games like Ghostwire Tokyo and The Evil Within. It’s one of those companies that remove it after some time.

  1. True that, Denuvo has never been a problem on Linux.

Only Anti-cheat software which operates at the kernel-level (similar to malware) needs to be enabled from the developer’s side to work with Linux, which is why online casino games like Fortnite don’t work on Linux, which IMHO is actually an advantage of Linux.

    1. Lol once you change your proton over five times, denuvo will lock your game over 24 hours, those who says ” Denuvo has never been a problem on Linux ” Totally lie

  2. they released the game without denuvo accidentally. So why keep it after that? DUMB DUMB bethesda. But i suppose its better than putting denuvo in ghostwire who did not have it in the first place, lmao why do that?

        1. As a matter of fact, i played a good chunk of Ghostwire, it’s a cool game where you explore Tokyo, kill japanese Youkai and try to save your sister, Seems way less woke than whatever slop their western conrades are churning out right now.

  3. didn’t even realize the game had denuvo. Always ran at 144fps flawlessly. never saw any hickups or stutters. Just worked fine. ID Software devs are legends!

  4. Came to see if there was any comparisson between the two versions, but instead, I see everyone talking the obvious.
    You lads are useless.
Btw, there’s no difference between the two.

  5. John, are you going to make a comparison between the Denuvo version and the version without Denuvo?
Please man, it would be really interesting!
