The Early Access phase of Starfield began earlier today and as you may have seen, the game does not feature any FOV setting on PC. Thankfully, though, there is a way via which PC gamers can change the FOV in Starfield, so keep reading to find out how.
All you have to do is create a text file in your “Documents/MyGames/Starfield” folder and name it “StarfieldCustom.ini”. Inside that text file, you can then add the following commands
“[Camera]
fFPWorldFOV=100.0000
fTPWorldFOV=100.0000″
The above settings will give a FOV of 100. If you want a FOV of 95, you can replace these numbers with “95.000”
We’ve tried this workaround and we can confirm that it really works. So there you have it, everyone. Although Starfield does not offer any in-game FOV option, you can use this method and apply whatever FOV setting feels comfortable to you.
So, in just a matter of hours, we got two must-have mods for Starfield. The first one is this one (okay okay, it’s a bit of a stretch to call it a mod. However, I’m certain that a modder will be able to create a mod that can change the FOV values on the fly/in game) and the second is the DLSS 2/XeSS Mod.
Another mod that will be crucial to Starfield is Reshade. I don’t know what Bethesda was smoking, but the game currently looks washed out with elevated blacks in SDR. Since this is Bethesda we’re talking about, I don’t really expect them to fix it. However, by using Reshade, most PC gamers should be able to resolve this issue themselves.
Before closing, I should note that our PC Performance Analysis will most likely go live this weekend. Until then, here are our first PC performance impressions of it.
Enjoy and stay tuned for more!

You need to do extra steps to increase your FOV or get DLSS working.
The era of 70 euro/dollar games.
it’s as if they like us fussing about things nowadays. I think they think it creates engagement and traction.
This $hit has worse graphics than Killzone Shadow Fall although that $hit was locked to 24 fps as well.
I think it’s a shame Shadow Fall never got a PS4 pro and consequently PS5 patch. Game would shine at native 4K/60
Not enough bow shooting lesbians in the Killzone games to warrant woke Swede Guerilla to revisit them.
Amen.
does anyone know what default value of fov is?
70 terrible !
Why do modern gaymers like to play in such claustrophobic FOVs? Is it because their IQs match the FOV number? I’ve never understood it, but clearly Turd Howard understands his audience.
consoles, sitting far away from tv, you need binoculars.
probably stupid a*s performance decrease when you see more objects on your screen i hate that. i put fov 85 by default for all bethesda games.
Consoles, the moment FPS games started being popular on consoles with Halo was the moment every FPS started using claustrophobic FOVs, even when people changed TV aspect ratios from 4:3 to 16:9/16:10 due to widescreen LCDs.
This is done to save up on performance and because console players sit farther from the TV so tunnel vision is less noticeable.
It’s not a matter of what gamers want, but what the developers are forcing upon them. Eg Xbox version only being 30fps, despite there being vocal player demand for a 60fps performance mode.
Horizontal or vertical?
lol, the game has already been cracked and is “out there”
AMD sponsorship ruined this game !
AMD sponsorship ruined this game !
Devs ruined games not sponsors Mr Bingo
exactly like the “amd ruined this game but modders fixed it with dlss”
i swear its like these people only cares about graphics.
The sad thing of the story, is that despite we are in 2023, gamers still seek to tweak FOV, disable film grain or motion blur, or edit keyboard controls in *.ini or *.cfg files, for the simple reason that they are not available in game menu, what a shame for Devs !!!
If you think about it. It was never the year that mattered. But who the developer was and if they were dedicated to PC hardware. Now that MS owns ID Software it makes me hope the next Doom will not be cut down..
This – It’s been true for decades but even more so after the suits came in and ruined big parts of the industry with their greed. Almost a shame gaming became a mainstream entertainment form, it attracted those poor excuses for human being’s too
really you cant bring down the console and type fov 100?

SHIEEET
this game is boring af, could not stand 3 hours
Weirdly enough you can still refund the game even if you played more than 2 hours… I played 4 and got a refund
It was smart to return it for now. You can buy it later when the modding community has had time to mop up Bethesda’s usual mess as much as is possible.
btw you are commended for being in a very small minority that will bother to return a game that’s not worth the money. Most just keep it and struggle with trying to play it anyway.
I will give you an example. Cyberpunk 2077 which was worse than Starfield on release and so broken on consoles that Sony pulled it from their store until CDPR fixed it at least somewhat. It had around 8 million pre-orders. CDPR reported in a financial statement months later that only 30,000 of those pre-orders were returned for a refund. Roughly 1 out of 267 customers returned their pre-order for a refund.
Indeed, It didn’t feel that bad at first but it actually dropped like 20fps after a few hours and the whole “go there, loadscreen, go there, loadscreen” was a bit tedious for me.
I do understand why Bethesda didn’t implement landing and so on though because all the traveling back and forth would make the start (at least) of the game be even more boring.
I will come back to this game though, but it needs a lot of work from both devs and modders.
Remember they charge you more for the games that don’t have basic features, f*king insulting. Well for 5-7 years I didn’t pre-order a single game besides baldurs gate 3
2023 Triple A Gaming:
Mods to alleviate the stock annoyance with the game
Mods to fix the performance of the game
there’s always an extra Step after downloading the game which is finding some mods or tweaks online and installing them before even starting the game
dunno why games always use an Obnoxious FOV value
they just can’t help themselves they have to piss us off with low FOV, motion blur, chromatic aberration, film grain, vignettes, mouse aiming latency or smoothing
Designers think these effects give better image quality similar to photography or movies.
I have read some excellent stuff here. Definitely value bookmarking for revisiting. I wonder how much effort you put to make the sort of excellent informative website.
