Here are the official PC system requirements for Returnal

A couple of days ago, Sony revealed that Returnal will be coming to PC in early 2023. And even though there isn’t any specific release date, the publisher has also revealed the game’s official PC system requirements.

According to the PC specs, PC gamers will at least need an Intel Core i5-6400 or AMD Ryzen 5 1500X with 16GB of RAM. Sony has listed the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060  and the AMD Radeon RX 580 as the minimum required GPUs.

The publisher recommends using an Intel i7-8700 or AMD Ryzen 7 2700X with 32GB of RAM and an NVIDIA RTX 2070 SUPER or AMD RX 6700 XT.

From what we know so far, the PC version of Returnal will have Ray Tracing effects, as well as support for NVIDIA DLSS and AMD FSR. Thus, these PC requirements are for its non-RT/rasterized version.

Stay tuned for more!

    1. RAM requirements are always POS. But one thing for sure. Despite being UE4 game, it will have ZERO shader compilation stutter.

        1. Then I have to hard assume you are a newbie (which you are clearly not). Even Flight Simulator’s RAM requirement is incoherent at times. I have debunked plenty of System Requirements in the past. So, I cannot wait to debunk this as well.

        2. believe me mate. It will be good like Days Gone. Even Iron Galaxy Noobie Boobies have successfully implemented shader pre-compilation. So, I can safely assume that. BUT, if Housemarque messes it up, then it will be a first big stain on Sony’s PC porting premise.

    2. How can you tell that exactly?!? You developed the game? And I am glad games are pushing technological boundaries. Can’t wait until the develop a game/engine that can truly allowed the game to utilize what system configuration was actually available.

I’ve got a 128gb of RAM in my big guy, so I say come on!.! Put the whole game plus some just into memory!

I mean a SSD in any manner is still the proverbial bottlenecks of todays data transfers…. Give me my 120+GB/s transfer speeds there and I think I’ll be happy.

      “Ain’t looking like a 32gb game….”. HA!!!

  1. What hilarious ram requirements.

Reminds me of 2009, when Metro 2033’s requirements were posted. It said it recommend 8 GB RAM.

Most people had 2 GB ram, regardless if they were on XP, Vista or the newly released Windows 7. Few enthusiasts had 4 GB RAM on 32 bit OS’s still. (I went Vista x64 late 2007 on 2 GB RAM, great experience, no sarcasm).

Metro 2033 launched, game is barely using 1 GB ram to run on PC, lol.

  2. I have had 32GB since 2016 so seeing it recommended for gaming in 2023 hardly seems like a big deal. Anyone with a higher end gaming pc should have that much ram by now. An entry level gaming pc should have been using 16GB for the last few years and they will meet the minimum. FFS my $130 (on sale) Chromebook even has 8GB and it was released nearly 3 years ago. 16GB will probably be just fine for the game anyway if you dont have a lot of other stuff in the background of course.

    1. Kinda overkill for 2016 tho. Nowadays? Still overkill, haha. Most games don’t pass ~12-14 GB ram total usage on the entire PC.

      1. I was using 32GB with a 3770k when they launched. Today 64GB would be my choice it it were not for fast DDR5 being so expensive.

          1. Maybe people use pc for more than just basic gaming. Hell just with all the tabs I have open my pc is typically using at least 12 GB of ram before I even launch game. Ram has been dirt cheap so many times over the years so I always get more than I need when it is. And Windows can make use of it with caching. It would be stupid to have a high end pc in 2023 with less than 32 GB of ram. Tech forums are full people that have no trouble paying full price for dozens of games a year yet lose their mind when they have to spend any money to upgrade their pc at some point.

    2. I got 32 gigs of ram for Tarkov. It also helps for editing video. It’s not expensive and you never have to worry about closing tabs before gaming.

  3. the 32GB of RAM is needed to store and maintain the wrinkles, uneven skin, eyebags and the overall ugliness of Selene at every millisecond of the game

have to make sure the dreaded Male Gaze is defeated from start to finish you see

    1. Seriously, her face is quite difficult to look at. It’s like the artists weren’t satisfied with the reference actress’s already ugly face so they went out of their way to make her even more hideous. I look forward to mods replacing her with character models that aren’t vomit-inducing.

      1. the thing is, they make the female characters ugly on purpose, it’s not incompetence or accidental

Anita Sarkeesian and her ilk have always been whining about female characters being made to be pretty/sexy for the “male audience” since around 2012, so it’s no coincidence that the Western developers (who buy into and follow all the Sarkeesian horse s**t) have all been making female characters unattractive/ugly and unappealing to male audiences for almost a decade

in the Dead Space remake they’re doing the same thing, making the female characters ugly, where in the original game they actually looked good. they and the sjws say it’s being done for so-called “realism” and “age of the female characters”, which let’s face it, are just excuses to uglify female characters

        1. they have a plethora of excuses to “justify” not having attractive/sexy female characters in ANY game, it’s basically part of their social justice feminist religion, taught by Anita Sarkeesian and her ilk

basically their bias and dishonestly regarding “realism” “is easily exposed via the fact that that they are selective in when and how they apply their “realism”

For example in video games you can cast spells, cast auras, cast projectiles, shoot beams from their hands, fly in the air, levitate, teleport, transform into other creatures, turning people into chickens, having animals that speak, humans that revive from the dead, survive falls from skyscraper buildings, carrying 1000 items of inventory on one person, reload ammo without changing/filling the magazine, have ray guns, laser guns, swords which set people on fire, etc. BUT FOR SOME REASON the depiction of female character’s physical traits HAS TO BE REALISTIC

  4. the protagonist looks/design is the one factor that got me completely disinterested in the game

woke developers are saving me money thats for sure

  6. Was flipping through some of the comments here, and I was quite honestly shocked to find out the lead character is a woman. I actually thought that was a dude.

Was under the impression it was like some sort of homage to Steve McQueen or something. This industry………

        1. i am aware that Selene’s looks are based on the real life woman Anne Beyer

they made the in-game character uglier/worse looking

Bioware did the same thing for Mass Effect Andromeda regarding the female character Sara Ryder, the real life model for this character Jayde Rossi is actually hot, they deliberately made her ugly in the game
