Devolver has announced that Return to Monkey Island will release on September 19th. In order to celebrate this announcement, the publisher has also shared the game’s gamescom 2022 trailer which you can find below.
Return to Monkey Island is the long-awaited follow-up to the legendary Secret of Monkey Island and Monkey Island 2: LeChuck’s Revenge.
Bringing classic point-and-click gameplay to the modern-day, intrepid pirates will solve puzzles and explore the islands with a clever evolution of classic adventure game controls. Moreover, the game will have context-sensitive interactions, reactive dialog trees, and an easy-to-use inventory system.
Enjoy!

What the hell is up with Stan’s jacket… Jesus.
I’m actually horrified.
I can’t believe some people intend to make money with that.
Personally, I would be ashamed to create something as ugly
as that monstrosity and try to sell it.
One more franchise which bites the dust, I guess.

Its not that bad
Different strokes for different folks? It’s what makes the world go round-n-round! I think it’s just as good as any past Monkey Island graphics were.
What boggles my mind is how the developers kept this secret for so long and it’s already releasing in 3 weeks? Now that’s developer discipline.
As usual, maybe I exaggerate, but come on…
I won’t compare to the old pixel art because it’s too different, but look, even the controversial Special Edition was so much better than this.

I feel like this is starting to look too abstract and weird now.
I was able to find a picture to make a comparison with the very first game…
It had more charm!

More charm??? You mean more blocky pixels. Yikes. Why do you think technology keeps improving the number of pixels in any given resolution? Because it looks better. An image of 640x480p looks blocky. An image of 1920×1080 looks very nice and smooth. Come On Now!
Art style: no.
