Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic Remake

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake has been reportedly delayed indefinitely

In September 2021, Sony and Aspyr announced a remake of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. However, it appears that this remake is currently in development hell as Aspyr has decided to delay it indefinitely.

According to Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, Aspyr has fired two directors and told staff that the project is on pause as it tries to figure out what comes next.

As Bloomberg reported:

“On June 30, Aspyr finalized a demo of the game, known as a vertical slice, to show to production partners Lucasfilm Ltd. LLC and Sony Group Corp. The developers were excited about it and felt like they were on track, according to a person familiar with the project, so they were shocked by what happened next.

The following week, the company fired design director Brad Prince and art director Jason Minor. Neither responded to requests for comment, but Minor suggested on a social media page that his dismissal was unexpected.”

Aspyr was rebuilding KOTOR for a new generation with modern tech, features, visuals and more. Furthermore, the team was aiming to maintain the integrity of the story and characters of the original version.

  1. huh ,kinda like vampire masquarade bloodline 2. Interesting how the woke ruin everything because they are incompetent.

  2. Good, this was never going to be good anyway. Real time action combat, rewrites of the original story, and woke garbage employees. Yeah this was always going to be a disaster. Glad at least we got the original 2 rereleased.

  3. Learning about the KOTOR remake and its canceletion in the very same second is a rollercoaster of emotions.

  4. It’s probably for ther best, gems never die, the original would always be the best, consedering “Star Wars: ‘KOTOR’ Remake Features God Of War-Style Combat” was one of the headlines I saw earlier, the flop would be inevitable.

  5. As if this thing had any chance whatsoever, of being even remotely good.

Stick a fork in it, and don’t bring up remaking this game again, until the era of stupidity we are all enduring right now, is officially over.

    1. It saddens me to say this but i agree. As soon as i heard they were rewriting some of the dialogue i was like NOPE.

  6. The Only upcoming Remake project that was deemed somewhat necessary is now in development hell.
Was Aspyr the best choice for such a huge undertaking?
Which other studio would’ve been a better choice?

    1. deemed somewhat necessary

It absolutely isn’t necessary in the slightest. The plotting, characters and gameplay systems are all as crisp as they were 19 years ago. The “real-time with pause” RPG system and the D&D3-derived d20 ruleset are as solid as ever. The only things that have aged are graphics and compatibility with modern OSes/hardware – all of these issues can be worked around with mods + fan patches.

If you can’t wrap your head around the gameplay systems then that that’s a YOU problem. IMO, somebody’s gotta pretty thick if they can’t grasp d20 rules.

      1. I can bet the remake will be a modern action RPG aka FF7 Demake with nothing of the D&D3 DNA left

    2. Neither remake nor remaster is ever necesary for a 20+ year old game, the OG still plays great and you can mod the visuals if the graphics look dated for you (they dont for me)

        1. When control methods and/or UI delivery are so antiquated and/or alien to more modern game design that they’re seemingly impenetrable. Eg I can easily go back and play most PC FPSes because they largely haven’t changed their input schemes since like 1996, but I have a hard time with console FPSes pre-dating Halo’s dual analogue controls. An example of antiquated UI delivery might be a lack of quest logs.

In some cases the game design for super old games might just be downright objectively awful. Eg point & click Adventure games with puzzles that had utterly obtuse solutions which defy conventional logic. Pixel hunting was another shxt design trend of Adventure games back in the day.

None of these apply to KOTOR.

          1. The correct answer is: “When flappyheads decide that they need to make money.”

  7. The gaming industry literally cant even make a remake.

But dont worry guys, Microsoft bought Bethesda and some studios. They are back baby….. oh wait
