First gameplay trailer released for Return to Monkey Island

Devolver has released the first gameplay trailer for Return to Monkey Island. This trailer features some in-game scenes, and will give you an idea of the game’s art style and aesthetics.

Return to Monkey Island is the long-awaited follow-up to the legendary Secret of Monkey Island and Monkey Island 2: LeChuck’s Revenge.

Bringing classic point-and-click gameplay to the modern-day, intrepid pirates will solve puzzles and explore the islands with a clever evolution of classic adventure game controls. Moreover, the game will have context-sensitive interactions, reactive dialog trees, and an easy-to-use inventory system.

Although there isn’t any specific release date, Devolver plans to release this game later this year.

Enjoy!

    1. Curse of Monkey Island has the best aesthetics by original release.
But the special edition (remasters) of the first two games are also pretty decent looking: The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition & Monkey Island 2: LeChuck’s Revenge: Special Edition

  1. Doesnt look great, though Ill probably still pick this up being a fan of the originals, did they ever do a remaster of LeChucks Revenge?

  2. The artstyle makes their faces look lifeless…
If they were aiming for that, they achieved their goal.
    Cause it looks absolutley horrible.

  3. “and will give you an idea of the game’s art style and aesthetics.”

tumblr corporate style, its amazing how snes games look better than modern games made by hipsters.

  4. OH. MY. GOD. I have seen lots of ugly games in my life, but this…
This takes it to a whole nuther level…
I know they say “who cares about graphics when you’ve got good gameplay”, but in this case, I think it’s the opposite. (And that’s assuming it would even have good gameplay.)
Even the ugliest of the Nickelodeon cartoons look like more efforts were put into them.

  5. As a life long avid fan of the series, this looks stunning. I hope they’ll keep the soul of the gameplay intact.
