A few days ago, we shared a video showcasing a fan remake of Need for Speed Underground 2 in Unreal Engine 4. And today, we get to see another classic Need for Speed game in Epic’s latest engine.
Created by Dávid Kerekes, the following video showcases Need for Speed III: Hot Pursuit in Unreal Engine 5. Kerekes used and imported the original textures and 3D models from Need for Speed 3 in Unreal Engine 5. As such, this project can give us an idea of what a faithful remaster of this classic racing game could look like.
From what we can see, Kerekes has ported two levels (Hometown and Atlantica) and one vehicle. Additionally, there are some basic gameplay driving mechanics.
Thanks to Unreal Engine 5, this Need for Speed 3 Fan Remaster greatly benefits from numerous features. For instance, we get a highly detailed lighting system, better shadows, better ambient occlusion and better sun rays. There are also better and more realistic reflections (though NFS 3 already had some pretty cool fake chrome reflections).
The end result is truly amazing, and we highly recommend watching the video!

Finally a remake I would play!
Unfortunately, it will never happen.
One of my favorite racing games from the psx era, the ost combined with high speed was out of this world. Also, John continues to make ridiculous hyphenated terms (retro-amazing).
For the nude/boobs mods I’ll create the term… “big-amazing” 😛
Cover an old game nude mod so you have to say retro-nudes.
Nude Mod for the original Tomb Raider. “Retro-bigga-Lar-amazing”
hahahahahahahahahahah.. nice one Johnny
I was like “it will transition to a good graphical thing anytime soon”, but it never did.
John, serious… What the hell is this cr4p and why the fvck are you calling this shlt amazing?
Even mobile games from 2010 looks better than this.
FML
gotta love the first comment on youtube too on that crap: “this just proves that lighting alone can make any game look amazing” ..for cereal, after watching.. that?!
Exactly! People love to lie to themselves.
My favorite and most fond game of all NFS. Still got the original jewel case from back in the day.Played it all day long back then, knew all the turns and all the cars handling like the back of my hand…Still play a lap or two,but my skills are no more…Ahhh, those were the days.
looks bad man!!
Looks great until they start playing and…
*STUTTER* *STUTTER* *STUTTER*
I have the soundtrack for NFS II, III and High Stakes in my car’s mSD card. I’ve spent so many of my childhood years playing these games, specifically this one. I remember driving with the arrow keys on the keyboard until I finally convinced my mom to let me buy a cheap “Genius” controller.. I don’t even think that company even exists anymore. Nostalgia trip man.
They still exist. I have Genius-branded speakers.
Amazing!
Is RTX 3090 Ready To Handle NFS 3 22 Remake from 1998 in UE5 @ 1080p 30fps.. ??
That was amazing all right….. Amazing-ly awful! Oh, the lighting may have been better, but everything else was worse than the rubbish on the side of the road in anything remotely modern.
Oh, and that FOV? It may be my memory, but I don’t recall NFS III looking like that back in the day.
The number of idiots in this thread that don’t know what they’re talking about is infuriating.
He just imported the maps and car, and the lighting does all the rest. Of course you can expect rough edges.
Yeah, the FOV and blur are awfully out of place, but overall it’s amazing and perfectly carried the look of the original.
Loved this game back in the day. High Stakes was even better. Wish they did more fictional track based, non-open world racing games with real world cars. Can’t think of a modern one off the top of my head.
That’s so perfect
Can’t wait to see high stacks too ?
This just makes me want to instal and play this again
