Take-Two takes down GTA Underground and other GTA San Andreas & Vice City mods

It appears that Take-Two is currently shutting down a lot of mods for Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and San Andreas. Earlier today, the GTA: Underground development team got in touch with us and told us that it has received a DMCA notice from T2 through its ModDB page.

GTA Underground is a mod that combines the maps of GTA III, Vice City, San Andreas, Manhunt & Bully. It’s a pretty cool concept and it’s unfortunate that Take-Two has decided to take it down.

However, Take-Two has not specifically targeted GTA Underground. As the team told us, VCS: PCE and the LCS PC port have also been taken down. Thus, Take-Two is currently shutting down multiple mods/projects for Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.

We don’t know why Take-Two has suddenly decided to do such a thing. Theoretically speaking, these mods do not violate any “rules” and should be safe.

From what we can see, Take-Two has also shut down Kadakash’s AI-upscaled HD Mod for GTA: San Andreas. However, the latest AI-enhanced Texture Pack from flyaway888 is still available via YouTube.

It will be interesting to see whether GTA Underground, VCS: PCE, and the LCS PC port will come back to life. Naturally, we’ll be sure to keep you posted!

    1. Rockstar Games isn’t removing the mods, it’s Take-Two, their publisher (and I think parent company?), same as when they went after modders a few years ago and Rockstar Games had to step in.

  1. Weird that it was AI upscaled or enhanced texture packs. Prolly because they plan to release their own version with enhanced textures and want to clear the way for them to make cash on it. Scumbaggery at its finest.

      1. Still work in progress but there are a lot of interesting things to do such as travel to vice city, or bully map , bigger maps to travel. safehouses, multiplayer, extra vehicles , weapons etc.

    1. Just by that awful E3 ~~diversity~~ conference, I consider them worse than EA. Hell, that f’ing conference makes them on par with big pharma, military-industrial complex and oil corps.

  2. It just hurts them in the long run and if the modders aren’t violating any laws or Rockstar rules I’d tell them to take me to court and call their bluff.

  3. I gakked the Underground and ViceCry upon reading the article. Still can be had for the moment. We have to preserve our digital history you know.
