YAGER and Tencent have announced that they’re deepening their strategic cooperation through a new agreement involving additional investment.
The deal will see Tencent take a majority stake in YAGER. Additionally, the German game producer will maintain its independence. Furthermore, it will gain greater access to the tech giant’s development and other resources, along with strategic consultation. The existing company structure and management will also remain with no changes.
YAGER’s Managing Director Timo Ullmann said:
“Tencent’s new investment shows a great deal of trust in us and confidence in the huge potential behind the creative pivot of ‘The Cycle’, our high-stakes PvPvE shooter. For us, the majority stake means we have the resources to expand the studio and the games in development. With Tencent we now have a powerful, globally operating partner to support our strategic plans for YAGER.”
The two companies first joined hands last year, when Tencent acquired a minority stake in YAGER. The German studio, founded in 1999, has developed several hit games, including a futuristic combat flight-simulation – aptly called “Yager” – and “Spec Ops: The Line”, a third-person shooter that stood out not just for engaging gameplay, but also for the moral decisions’ players had to make. The studio currently has competitive quest shooter, “The Cycle,” in Early Access. The new version with extensive gameplay changes has just recently started into an alpha test, more information will follow. YAGER is among the top 10 of Germany’s largest development studios, with a staff of around 140.

Gawd damned commies are buying everything…good god…stop. crazy what people will do for money.
Shhhh…stop talking. There’s nothing going on here, China is just buying everything to make everything better for everyone. This isn’t propaganda. The Chinese government cares about freedom of choice and freedom of speech and the freedoms of all people. Don’t be a terrorist.
Duh lol.
right?!?! all people have to do is look how much the common man has enjoyed communism in the past…theres a damned reason people for AGES had sought to escape that mess of stupid….but too many poor people are just as greedy as the rich, and want it all for nothing…well its gonna cost em everything
It’s already destroying the country from the inside out. CRT, racism, sexism, cancel culture, fear mongering. The Left are the new Chinese army.
“racism, sexism”
What’s wrong with you? Those things are fine.
Some mixed messages in this comment, lol. Bait?
people selling their soul is not our proper economic system…greed is greed doesn’t matter what side its on. I’d tell commies to pack sand.
>”people selling their soul”
So you think chinaman is literally the devil, haha.
>”is not our proper economic system…”
“my ideal economic system has never been tried…”
>” I’d tell commies to pack sand.”
Which is probably the reason you have no company worth a dime to them or anyone. Coincidence?
Get f*ked, communist will win.
Here’s hoping it is a Cuban or chinese style communist and not rainbow CIA.
Of course I’m a real communist.
I read about that plane crash in the Himalayas where this plane full of Chinese tourists were trapped on a mountain side for like a month, and had to resort to cannibalism.
And I mean, as I was reading it, I just couldn’t believe it. How could they do it?
I mean, how could anyone eat nothing but Chinese for an entire month?
it was good game tho
“why would they ?”
Good question, why would they? And here’s another, would you want ZOG owned US to try and stop it?
Bobby Kotick was getting a 200 million dollar bonus but so many people complained that he was overpaid that they lowered his bonus to 150 million dollars. He’s still overpaid imo. It wouldn’t be so bad but Activision was laying employees off to pay for his bonus.
Another one to write off.
Most games/shooters are to some extent. Do you think it is a coincidence that all shooters become extra diverse with black woman and all that crap, and then a year or so later the US military went full woke? Predictive programming at it’s finest.
Is there something tencent doesn’t own already urgh
Shots fired, guess this is the end of a sleeper dev I had respect in. Crappy commie mobile games from here on out.
I bet the chinese propagandists love the game, since is one one of the few that portrays the yankees as the “bad guys”.
It really doesn’t, It’s just your standard trope about a military unit going rogue, similar to the plot of Modern Warfare 2.
One thing i find it interesting is how in most media the CIA is usually portrayed as a shady american institution engaged in morally grey situations (in video games, think of titles such as This one we are discussing, Modern Warfare 2, Splinter Cell Blacklist, etc.) But you never see this treatment of other equally corrupt and shady organizations such as the FBI. There are current laws in US that makes them check the script of movies to see if there is bias against FBI.
Antiwar propaganda? i dont mind it. At least it was trying to tell something different than your average COD.
and it did it bad. Best anti war game. ace combat 4.
It only did it bad because of the multiplayer that was forced on the devs by 2K, other than that it was a decent and really honest attempt. Best antiwar game MGS3
what does mp have to do with the campaign being meh?
The presence of MP means “kill for fun” and this creates and inconsistence with the game’s main objective to make you question war in general and as an entertainment product.
But seriously you should try to give some Fcks about gaming press and focus on what you think yourself, it’s obvious from your comments that you have a problem with this game only because leftists journos praised it, i was personally interested in this game and i played it without even knowing what they said, and it’s not like it was some big juggernaut game helped by over-marketing or something like TLOU, it had decent sales and mostly down to earth reviews
i think it was annoying and i would prefer it to be a mindless shooter instead of a pseudointelectual tryhard.
Why does everytime some dev tries something unexpected or new he’s flagged as pretentious ? I mean, they had an idea which is to make a game inspired by a book , how is this pseudo-intellectual ? Why are we rejecting every new idea or subversion and yet complain about games being always the same ? Can we just let it be what it is and play other games that we’re interested in instead of forcing every game to be what we want it to be ?
It’s not their fault if gaming press was j*zzing all over the place, it’s also a genuine mindless shooter if you ask me, the only difference is that you’re not a hero or a savior this time
it is pretentious you couldnt even notice weird things happening until late in the game where they did a bait and switch by showing you cutscenes telling you “here is what actually happened” so no, they didnt do anything “unexpected” they bait and switch and called it “what a twist” so pathetic and stupid.
Seriously ? Part of the twist was obvious and clear, not the game’s fault if you’ve been blasting through it like any other game missing all the subtle narrative elements, most people play only to shoot things and judging everything that outsmarts them as pretentious because it’s easier then questioning their own observation ability, it’s not even that smart you got some of the hints on your face in the loading screens.
It’s the same with people who hate the Silent Hill series, the usual “i’m here for fun and nothing else” and it’s OK, but there are games everywhere that suit their needs why asking for something special to be normal ?
they literally put cutscenes to change what happened, nothing was “clear” you are trolling.
Lol i said “part” of the twist not everything, only some aspects and details are changed in the “true” cutscenes, you’re supposed to see what the character was seeing when he was delusional and literally lying to himself, but if you look carefully you’ll see that your teammates are reacting to your madness, you notice their confusion and they’re arguing over your behavior just like in true cutscenes.
And there are numerous other subtle hints the more you push through the game, from the graffitis, music choices and even level design, anyway a second playthrough is recommended
“the game is supposed to be bad and stupid”
ah ok then buddy.
“you notice their confusion and they’re arguing over your behavior just like in true cutscenes.”
yes not in the actual game because the retconned the story on top of that, like i said stupid.
“the game is supposed to be bad and stupid”
Lol, i see what you did here
“yes not in the actual game because the retconned the story on top of that, like i said stupid.”
Nope, you see them behaving same as the endings they’re just in the background behind some depth of field, i mean the game has a lot of issues regarding it gameplay, graphics and overall lack of ambition, but the story was way above average especially for a military shooter, like i said earlier, if your character was delusional and hallucinating, it’s all normal to see what he sees and not the truth and i’ll say it once again, be aware while you’re playing, give it a second chance and just don’t care about what the press said
“Lol, i see what you did here”
“Nope, you see them behaving same as the endings they’re just in the background behind some depth of field, i mean the game ”
No you didnt see it.
They spread like the virus they created.
it wasnt even good the whole “plotwist” was basically lying about the cutscenes and pulling a bait and switch “no this is not what you saw, here is what you saw” oh come on, other have little things that i can notice dont pull a bait and switch, bad writing. It was advertised as over the top hollywood shooter and it was a depressive mess that things kept going worse. Journos who are tired playing games were “oh my god so subversive” booo.
It was advertised as mature and depressing with some Hollywood stuff from the get go, the only thing that didn’t make it to the final release is the whole sand physics mechanics that ended up being just scripted events, the game also puts a lot of clues that hint at the ending and the whole hallucination stuff, it’s like Fight Club, you need a second playthrough with the ending in mind to see them, i even saw a video that talks about it and there are even more clues that i thought, like when you pass near a fully green tree and if you turn back you notice it died (hinting at the player turning everything into sh*t on his way) the game itself isn’t that great and it’s just simple cover shooter stuff but the atmosphere and the tone were refreshing and far more enjoyable than the usual US army propaganda
“the advertising was a bait and switch”
yes and the only people who liked it was leftie journos who were bored of games and wanted to virtue signal how emotional they are.
I don’t care about what journos say and i’m not politicized person, i can stand on my own and enjoy things by myself, i enjoyed this game because it was and still is the only mature and not biased military shooter out there and no one can deny this, there are some few exceptions like Shellshock but it’s a sh*t game, and Killzone is Sci-Fi.
The cycle wasnt at all bad, till tencent came along – suddenly there was no more updates, there was erasing of roadmaps and promises made before. And ultimately they ended up with an angry playerbase and noone was playing anymore, thanks tencent!
How do you make that connection between the dev abandoning a game and Tecent involvement? Just an excuse to hate on tecent while giving Yager a free pass?
How is a game which is themed on the repercussions of war a propaganda piece? I can understand if you didn’t enjoy the title but labelling it as propaganda is ridiculous.
Sad part is I remember loving a game they made that was ahead of it’s time called, yager. It was actually a game that went against communism and now they themselves have joined the communism. I’ve done seen & heard it all now.
“Yager is set in a futuristic world where countries borders no longer exist and the earth is controlled by a number of mega corporations, most notably DST, as well as Proteus and Lobos Robotics. Although the old countries officially do not exist there are tell tale signs identifying each environment.”
Last time i checked, China still have borders, unlike the country you simp for, which have military bases in the entire world and is ruled by mega corporations.
The real propaganda is any government saying war is going to be clean and easy and glorious. The game shows that war is terrible for everyone involved, and it is.
YAGER is like some of this signers of the 80’s they are remembered for 1 max 3 songs, and the rest no one knows or cares what they did after.
