Watch Dogs Legion new Header

The source code for Watch Dogs Legion has been leaked, weighs around 560GB

As we’ve already reported, in October 2020, ransomware gang “Egregor” has leaked data that it had obtained from the internal networks of Crytek and Ubisoft. And it appears that the source code for Watch Dogs Legion has been leaked online. The source code for this triple-A game is around 560GB, and it’s already available for download on various private trackers.

Egregor was also the hacking group that leaked all the latest details about Crytek’s upcoming projects. As we’ve already reported, Crytek had plans for Crysis Next, Crysis VR and a new Ryse game. In addition, Crytek is also planning to remaster Crysis 2 and Crysis 3.

But what can the average PC Joe expect from the leak of Watch Dogs Legion’s source code? Well, for starters, mods. By accessing the source code, modders may find a way to enable mods for this game. Not only that but, by having access to the source code, modders could possibly further optimize the game.

Furthermore, cracking groups may also find a way to crack the game’s anti-piracy measures. There hasn’t been so far any crack for this game and we can’t really tell whether Watch Dogs Legion uses the Denuvo anti-tamper tech. For what it’s worth, its executable file is only 138KB in size, so it may not be using Denuvo. On the other hand, the game does have some dlls that are over 600MB in size so perhaps that’s a new version of Denuvo? Either way, cracking groups should be able to completely remove the anti-piracy protections. Thus, it will be interesting to see whether a DRM-free version performs faster than the protected version. After all, Watch Dogs Legion has ridiculously high CPU requirements on the PC.

Needless to say that we won’t allow links to the game’s source code. We’ll also ban those that attempt such a thing, so you’ve been warned.

Stay tuned for more!

    1. Source code……. and its based on an old build. Same/similar how developers have “Dev kit consoles” are having about 2-3 times more RAM and retail have much less…..

Anyway….. probably wont help crack them the game because at this early stage, probably no protections took place.

  1. I always go down the comment section to watch you triggered about sjw, it’s like you don’t have any other problem in your life, just like sjw, congrats.

    wtf?

    1. Only if Johnny Boy took his 2 seconds to see that the only .exe in the game directory weighs around the same size.

        1. 108 to 138 KB. The sole purpose of the exe is to call for the DLL and show a splash image, so it’s literally only an initiator.

          1. Because… denuvo. The protection is sometimes put in the dlls and this game is one of the cases. That’s why the dunia dlls weigh 600+ each.

    1. and funny how Biden and Trump are fighting right now….. btw some Trump people/supporters were hacked as well these days. Also, Biden and Legion share the same/similar: letter “E” hahah

One thing left to do is……… CPY cracking the game…. I mean, “CONSPIRACY” cracking it hah

      1. dude, bitchute and the donald win got ddosed to h3ll and some of its
        infrastructure was deplatformed.

Its insane, every day these days is hack, ban, media lies, hack, ban, media lies…and of course PANDEMIC.

        wtf john why is censored?

  3. “Ransomware gang” is just a euphemism for criminals. This isn’t a question about DRM or the quality of the game: it’s cyber criminality. Plain and simple. Let’s hope those scum gets tracked down and put behind bars. Nothing to cheer for (and I hate DRM personally, FYI).

    1. Depends on the victim, are they criminals for attacking public services and hospitals ? Yes. Criminals for attacking Ubish*t ? No, they’re f*cking heroes

      1. Sorry, you are wrong. Everyone must be threated the same and obey law. Because it is law. No one must be a victim in any way and law must protect you and also Ubi.

If you think Ubi is “bad enough” then you can use democracy to change law, so Ubi wouldn’t be able “to be bad” or criminal maybe? I heard ideas that customers must be protected by law from false advertisement (lie?), bad product (14 day hassle free return?) and/or microtransactions (online gambling?).

You are fighting the wrong direction, basically…

        1. Yeah law is law i guess, but i have the right to feel some satisfaction out of that, i wont cry if a pedophile gets beaten just like i wont cry if Ubi gets some sh*t with a ransomeware gang

        2. Law only applied to the weakest link of society, it was created by, who call themselves, high society, not to target themselves, but others…

      2. No, they’re hurting the devs. They’ll probably lose jobs over this. People will be affected. All this so petty thieves can have their circle jerk.
Sure, Ubisoft sucks, but it is the devs who will suffer here. It is the devs who have been suffering through all of their crap and PR nightmares and now this just makes it worse.

        1. It’s the execs who will suffers the most and by far, the devs are also already protected by their shifting policy in work conditions. After all the crap they’ve been doing now completely public, they will never risk themselves into another sh*tstorm about work conditions

  4. John must be anticipating for nude mods of this game. Of course not only female nude mods but also male nude mods lol….

  5. >Needless to say that we won’t allow links to the game’s source code.
Then I will automatically consider this as a fake. No proof = no trust.

    1. I saw a thread with the leaked data a couple of days ago on zzchan /v/, it’s legit. If anything DSOG is a little late to the party. Also apparently part of the game is programmed in Scratch, which is like a tool to teach little children about programming.

  6. btw the way the 138KB exe isn’t the actual exe, it’s the launcher of the main exe. however I’m pretty sure hacking groups will recopile a new drm free exe

  7. immortal game if true? endless possibilities… a real “next gen” ps10 version , lower end cards running this pos great with all features enabled, indie games, the community also could fix ubilol secret sauce recipe, game play improvements, preservation, etc

  8. Couldn’t happen to a better s**t turd of a company. Do SquareEnix next, then WB, EA, Activision….. you know the list.

  9. A proper game release xd.
Though i don’t see how the source code of the game can help with “breaking” the hand rubbers DRM, DENUVO iirc is applied in parallel or after the game has been built.

      1. Yea what new system? How are they making that exe fatter now?
I know they also have their own “service” going dunno if any server side stuff would be included in the source of the game.

  10. Can someone explain how the source code can be 560gb… but the final game is 40gb. Doesn’t the final game contain all the source code/textures/sound and more. So how does that work?

    1. Easy, uncompressed models, textures, assets. You can save as much as 90+% of size after compressing game files.

The source code is actually could be just a couple of GB including comments and documentation. The rest 99% are assets + images + models + debugging stuff.

      1. Ahhh ok so when I read “source code” I was just assuming it was all just text. This is the entire game uncompressed then. Thanks for clarifying!! That makes a whole lot of sense. Thank you!

        1. Windows codebase could easily achieve 500GB including all the changes in Git branches, mainly due to compatibility and history preservation (so that engineers can see how code looked like a few years ago). But if there was a game of this complexity right now it would take easily 30 years of continuous development if not more, and thousands of people working on it.

    2. Probably contains even the whole engine tools (the Ubisoft property programs used by the developers to actually create the whole game), which are almost never included in public release builds. If this is true, that would be a huge hit for Ubisoft.

The original assets are often uncompressed and even much higher quality/resolution/bitrate than those that end up finally in the game. This is because the final release is optimized for running, and the source base files are optimized for creating. This works in the music industry as well, a few GB of all instrument/vocal recordings are brought to a final combined 10MB mp3 result. Similar in graphic design etc.

  11. By accessing the source code, modders may find a way to enable mods for this game.

We can already make mods for the game. The source code is unnecessary.

  12. If they keep like id before carmack leaves, they will eventually released the source code of doom 2016, like what id did with DOOM 1,2 and 3.
