Chet Faliszek says that there is no ARG; thoughts on Valve’s response

It seems that Half Life 3 is drawing a lot of attention these days and Valve’s Chet Faliszek tried to put an end to all rumors regarding it. According to Faliszek, there is no ARG right now and that the community has been trolled by someone. Fair enough, this could very well be the case but some new questions arose from Faliszek’s response.
First things first though. If you are a reqular visitor to Steam’s forums, you will already know that Valve hasn’t ever commented on any rumors. This is the first time that Valve has broken their radio silence, so there is obviously something fishy here. If those were indeed rumors, Faliszek and the entire team in Valve could simply ignore them and laugh as hard as they could. Although he is right about one thing; there never was an ARG. After all, we didn’t claim that there was one in the first place.
As Faliszek posted at Steam’s forums:
You are being trolled.
There is no ARG.
Wheatley’s speech was set in Portal 2 fiction – that is all.
There has been no directive from Gabe to leak anything. That is all false.
I just want to say this so there is no confusion. This is the community trolling the community nothing more. While it is nice to see people excited about anything HL, I hate seeing people be trolled like this.
Okay, so the community is trolling the community. Then how come there were those HL3 references in the Steam Holiday Sale images? Surely that was not an act from the community as Valve had the final say. You can clearly see that something is ‘wrong’ with Faliszek’s post, as Valve themselves have been hinting at Half-Life 3 these past days.
What’s more interesting is that the HL3 threads haven’t been locked or deleted – as of yet – from Steam’s forums. I’m pretty sure that you’ve been to countless forums in the past. I’m also pretty sure that your threads were locked when you were spreading lies about something. So, let’s just say that the community is trolling the community. Why hasn’t Valve locked those threads? Why is Valve breaking the radio silence all of a sudden but doesn’t delete the threads that are spreading lies?
There are two obvious reasons for not locking or deleting those HL3 threads. Either there is really something going on or Valve is desperate for some more hits at its forums. Given the fact that this is Valve we’re talking about, we can safely exclude the second reason. So, our dear Valve, if there really isn’t anything going on, go ahead and lock those threads. Show us that these are just rumors that should not be spreaded. Hell, that’s what a mod would normally do if those rumors were inaccurate, with a final message similar to “no news as of yet, these are just rumors. Locking this thread as it doesn’t provide anything trustworthy“.
There is a saying; when there’s smoke, there’s fire. Valve could easily take the situation in their hands and quench that fire, preventing it from spreading around. They didn’t and that says a lot in our opinion.
So, for now, let’s wait and see. However, there is definitely something going on in the background!
