A lot of players consider the first Thief games as two of the best stealth video games ever released. Therefore, we are happy to report that there are currently AI-enhanced ESRGAN HD Texture Packs for them.
Created by modder Akven, these packs aim to overhaul the low-resolution textures for both Thief Gold and Thief 2. Akven has upscaled the textures using manga109 and mymanga109 models. Moreover, he used two of his own models that he trained specifically for these two titles.
Thanks to these AI techniques, Akven was able to sharpen the textures. Naturally, these new HD textures also retain the art style of the original game, something that most Thief fans will appreciate.
You can download the ESRGAN HD Texture Pack for Thief Gold from here and for Thief 2 from here. You can also download a HD Texture Pack for the unofficial Thief II expansion, Thief 2X, from here.
Lastly, Akven has provided some comparison screenshots in the aforementioned links. In these screenshots, the modder showcases the visual differences between the vanilla and the modded textures.

Speak for yourself. Some games never age and Thief is one of em. I was thinking about replaying the whole trilogy on 20th anniversary of Thief 2 next month anyway. Might try these texture packs even though these games don’t need any enhancements as they’ve aged incredibly well due to their art style .
lol, you people get so but hurt, i never said “old games bad” my criticism to the author is if you are going to write about old games, at least dont be lazy, write up a good article, put up images, put up your opinion, you can tell this author doesnt even play theif, nor did he/she even bother downloading/trying the mod out.

ESRGAN texture packs are in most cases useless, ugly, and totally oversized when you see the disappointing final result.
There’s already “Thief 2 HD Mod v1.0”, which looks infinitely better than any “A.I. enhanced” texture pack.
