God of War 3

Uncharted 2, God of War 3, Metal Gear Solid 4 & more run faster on PC via the latest version of RPCS3

The RPCS3 team has released a new video, showcasing some of the improvements that it has implemented in the latest version of the Playstation 3 emulator. According to the team, Uncharted 2, God of War 3 and MGS 4 run faster now on the PC.

Going into more details, kd-11 rewrote RPCS3’s ZCULL implementation to improve scheduling efficiency. As the team noted, this resulted in a large performance uplift across many titles, especially in scenes with heavy culling. kd-11 also added a new setting to the advanced settings tab “Relaxed ZCULL Sync”. This new option changes the way zculling works.

As such, Red Dead Redemption and WipEout perform slightly better when Relaxed ZCULL Sync is active. Metal Gear Solid 4 also performs a lot better with this option.

Furthermore, WipEout is now playblae thanks to these performance improvements and some stability improvements by Eladash. Therefore, PC gamers can now enjoy this Playstation 3 exclusive game on the PC with higher resolutions.

You can download the latest version of RPCS 3 from here.

    1. remember when sony drones said we will never be able to emulate ps3 exclusives because of cell architecture?

      1. Folk once said the same thing about Sega Saturn emulation for similar reasons, i.e. a console with a complicated multi-processor architecture. How wrong they all were!

          1. If memory serves, that was one of the very few DC games to have used the console’s hardware-based anti-aliasing. Most DC games didn’t use it due to the heavy performance cost. Still, many DC games looked great by console standards for the time due to them being 480p (with the optional VGA cable) as opposed to the typically lesser image quality of PS2. DC was the last truly great console, imo.

          2. DC was great but it has to be the GameCube for me, I loved the games on that system and it’s controller.

          3. Another good console for sure. I still have mine albeit I now use Dolphin plus mods to play its games at far higher standards of visual fidelity on PC. F-Zero GX with the internal rendering resolution ramped up still looks great today, imo!

          4. Agreed, and that was a crazy fast game. I use Dolphin quite a lot to play my classics and they look really good at 4k some of them hold up well visually and are sometimes more fun than a lot of modern games. I was playing Mario Kart 7 3DS on Citra the other night with my son and he was loving it.

          5. I tried MK7 via Citra but the game plays too slowly for my tastes. Possibly due to having been spoiled by the majestic MK8 first on Wii U and more latterly via Cemu with the various ‘graphics packs’ plus a characters’ reskin mod.

      2. I keep an eye on OG xbox and X360 emus and they have great progress too, many games go in game, many playable.

Emulators just lack some important settings like more then X2 render but otherwise many games can be played

        1. Yep, I’ve been having a blast playing the likes of Jet Set Radio Future, Panzer Dragoon Orta and more via Cxbx-Reloaded.

      1. any good games to play? doesn’t matter old or new, just want a recommendation list. i haven’t played anything in a while.

          1. quake epsilon build has graphics remasters, dukeforces is fun, amc tc is the best oldschool fps mod i ever played, there is another duke mod, apocalypse something, lots of doom mods. I am playing twillight princess with graphics mods.

    1. stop insulting our superiors man, i own a PC myself (rtx 6080ti plus and an i11 2900) but when you lose, you have to admit it and i do admit it myself. PC is not capable of competing with consoles period.
      with respect.

    1. In some games you probably can. Some are more demanding than others like Skate 3 and Demon’s Souls. Others run well on older hardware like Asura’s Wrath and The Godfather

  1. From that list I’m only interested in MG4, but I’ve played it again last december so I’m good for now.
