Cloud Imperium has released a new visual teaser trailer for Star Citizen’s single-player campaign, Squadron 42. According to the team, this trailer highlights some of the work it has done on Squadron 42 over the course of 2019.
Squadron 42 is the single-player story driven game set in the same universe as Star Citizen. This SP game is being developed alongside Star Citizen (consider Squadron 42 the single-player mode of Star Citizen) and both of them share the same tech.
The game will be using the Lumberyard Engine, and will feature a a number of big actors. Mark Hamill, Gary Oldman, Henry Cavill, Gillian Anderson and John Rhys-Davis are some of them. Furthermore Liam Cunningham, Mark Strong, Craig Fairbrass and Ben Mendelsohn will also appear in it.
From what we know so far, the game will also have 40 distinct ships, as well as hand-crafted environments that will be enhanced by procedural tech. Moreover, players can expect systemic space and FPS gameplay (from stealth to brute force), dogfighting in both space and planetary atmosphere and a subsumption AI.
Enjoy!

I love when idiots like you saying it’s a scam when their financials are open and yo can see all the money goes into the development…5 studios 500 devs cost a good 4 million/month. Do you honestly think they are sitting there 9 to 5 doing nothing?
If you do there’s something seriously wrong in your head mate.
5 studios 500 devs …. and in one year they went from Star Citizen Alpha 3.4 to Star Citizen Alpha 3.8
*slow clap*

Lmao buy virtual ships so the guy above buy real ships.
And he also got a 4.7 m house…
Just saying…
Haha, love it!
Haha, nailed it!..
So tired of hearing about this drawn-out piece of crap.
The way i see it, if things like Fallout 4/76 and Skyrim are all Bethesda can do with their near unlimited resources and in the time frame they set between games, then what SC is trying to achieve is going to take a lot longer.

IGN – 9/10
Gamespot – 9.5/10
EGM – 9.3/10
DualShockers – 9/10
DSOG – 9.4/10
“”FragMunkey
I need to play this drawn-out piece of crap.”
Where do these review score comes from?
I’m trying to figure that out as well. Because how do you review a game that’s not even out yet. Haha
@ FragMunkey
agreed. i’ve waited longer for other games. waited since 2012 for cyberpunk and held out for dear life for the next valve game. waiting 5 years for Squadron 42 is just too much for me…forget it.
Waiting for games is for fools, that’s why i rarely watch trailers and promo material.
5? This thing was announced back in 2012, and won’t be releasing until AT LEAST 2 more years, that makes for 10 years dev time.
That honestly does not look impressive. I feel this game is going to be way behind PS5 exclusives when it releases. Quite ironic.
Can’t be behind if you’re never going to release it.
Someone needs his eyes checked 🙂
Its not so much the visual/textures/LOD etc aspect (that can be upgraded easily, and despite its gameplay, The Order 1886 is real life compared to SC) its rather what the tech is doing.
In the next free fly or even just look up a video of watching someone go somewhere. Look at how far they travel, what they do, how many areas/buildings/planets etc they land on and enter, look at everything being rendered all at the same time.
Now compare that to a game like /AssCreed/FarCry/Fallout/GTAV/Red Dead and notice how the only game that doesnt have a single loading screen except for the initial booting up and logging in is SC. That in of itself is like nothing done before.
Just one of those planets (i wont pretend to know an exact number) is massive compared to the size of any of those other game worlds.
Granted, whats the point of size if its not fun to play around in. Thats really the only thing lacking at the moment. The tech is there, but the fun is not.
Id say SC is where Elite was before the end of Season 2. A mile wide, but an inch deep.
Dont buy it unless you believe and are excited for the project. Youll get more fun by jsut watching professional YT’bers and their over-edited videos.
Edit: After checking out Elite via YT search (not played myself since Horizons release), even the hardcore supporters dont seem to be too happy right now. What is it with this genre.
I don’t think you understand the context here. None of that stuff is a backdrop. It’s all massive volumetric gas clouds and large world space that you’ll probably be flying around. That huge mining station is an actual huge mining station, probably measured in 1 to few km in length, and you are a character walking around it’s interiors and so on.
Yeah, sure, you can expect PS5 exclusives to look much better in certain scenarios (eg: some of these interior shots here, which don’t look THAT impressive, they lack global illumination for example). However, that’s always been the case, even with PS4 exclusives and some multiplats because those games focus on those things.
Look up the meaning of a teaser.
Scam Citizen.
Your Goddamn right it is!
He’s back folks!
First time I heard that joke. Woah. Give this guy a free game.
In Star Citizen 3.8. They’ll have a free-fly weekend coming up in a few weeks. Try it out then!
I think I may finally give the game a shot and try it out, since I did download one of the original releases of the Dog Fighting Module or what ever it’s called and I remember it being pretty good though the flight model was a bit strange compared to something like Elite Dangerous.
Going to be pretty awesome playing a modern day Wing Commander type game when it does eventually come out. Been my dream to have something like that again in the Space Simulator world.
and when is this coming out? This was supposed to have been released back in 2014…
When do you want it to come out?
As the project goes, add 5 years more XD. The funny thing is that the campaign will be for episodes.
Years ago they said there would be 40 missions divided into 4 pack with 10 missions each. But these people have said so many things that I don’t know what to expect.
Thanks you for the information Psionicinversion
My guess…the beta 1 is coming out in 2049!
full release on 2077.

This IS and always has been their entire business model in a nutshell. Dazzle and pander the dream to hopeful idiots to (easily) dupe them from their money then under-deliver or in most cases dont deliver at all…..proceed to buy mansion(s) and Porsche’s and pay your useless wife (et al) 6 figures etc etc etc. Living the dream alright, living the dream.
I will called it impressive if they show close up look of the character, not from far….
They have. Look up their “From Pupil to Planet” video.
And that’s a really outdated video by now. Their character tech has improved tremendously since then.
I think the point was to show off scale and their space landscaping.
Hopped back in (only got the base pack a year ago) when 3.8.0 was released the other day. Performance is where is should be and the new terrain tech is simply outstanding.
However, its still just sight seeing. Sure, the tech is like nothing created before, and the money is clearly being spent on game development. There’s just too much, tech wise, for the player to actually stand in front of and experience for the money to be disappearing into someones personal back account instead of going where it should be.
How i would have rolled out Star Citizen:
– Hanger – View/enter/access purchased ships
– Flight model – use purchased/rented ships in a zero g “skybox” – Update based on – feedback then once complete…
– Dog Fighting – PVP with bots/AI added at a later date.
– MP Flight model in zero g skybox. Its amazing how content people are with little content if you let them enjoy that little content with their friends.
– Persistent Universe – The above then incorporated into it and bots/AI added to Dog Fighting alongside rollout of AI model for missions in the PU
This wouldve given players a more consistent reason to keep “playing” the game. After all, if the flight and combat model/gameplay loop in a space game is fun, then like anyother MP game, itll keep people happy while they wait for more content.
I cant help but feel that because they’ve not closed off the ability to back/donate and purchase ships etc/whatever…theyre in a situation where they dont know how to say no or rather, dont have to due to the constant flow of cash and this is just ballooning the game into something that could collapse under its own weight.
Once last thing. I remember during a free fly weekend a year or two ago, i was flying around out in the middle of nowhere and hit the eject key and was left fly through space as my ship got smaller and smaller as it went in one direction and the Stanton space port went the other. Never have i experienced that sort of helplessness in a game before. It really felt like i was lost in a void and the chances of me being found were near impossible.
I’ve seen some promoters of this game using cyberpunk 2077 as a example that games take long time. But in reality it was just announced in 2012, we still got Witcher 3 in 2015 and 2 huge dlc in 2016 with additional updates after.
So it’s not like cdpr was taking their sweet time. They cranked out Witcher 3 and then right after put all efforts into 2077 which is being released next year
Soooo… Yeah this game is a scam, you fools are just in denial.
If every other company can release AAA games in a timely manner. Than how come this game is taking so long. And no it’s not Indie. They have a huge staff and more money than most AAA development by big publisher
because this aint like no AAA game? i dont follow this game that much but from what i hear itll be a lot more complex and complete that your average game. kind of like a MMO i suppose
They have almost 500 employees + budget exceeding 250 million dollars. With 7+ years of development.
How can they still be in “beta” phase and still asking for more money.
Plus they are selling microtransaction ships while in alpha/beta.
As of 2019, Budget wise they are 3rd place is biggest budget video game in history.
Sounds more than most AAA development have.
They are in alpha, not beta, because scamming people is what alpha males do lmao
Haha, like the Brits would say, “you cheeky b*stard you”. This is a very underrated response, Awesome man ?
sorry for late reply but i meant its not like no AAA game in the sense that its way more complex and deep than they are. i mean compared to assassins creed or CoD or whatever. so obviously itll be way more expensive than they are
On their youtube channel. They upload hours of gameplay just a week or two ago.
There are some indications that it will be a PS6 exclusive.
Oh god…. And how will you controll all thos things with s controller??
Jpegs are easy, you just look at ’em.
So the number in the name is the amount of years it will need to be finished?
