This mod for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim introduces Volumetric Fog/Mist

Modder ‘Robanco’ has released a pretty cool mod for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. According to the modder, this mod brings large scale distant volumetric mist/fog effects to Skyrim Special Edition. Therefore, the mod adds misty valleys without obscuring peaks or wiping out the sky like standard fog does.

This Volumetric Fog/Mist effect is hand-placed in the world of Skyrim. As such, this opens up some doors that a generic fog implementation does not.

As the modder stated:

“I have spent more time getting the shaders right than designing the mist into the game but the SSE engine really takes this effect like a champion so there’s potential for more depth and detail and localized effects.”

However, it appears that there are some limitations with this mod. For example, the primary limitation of this method is that it’s not controllable by weather or time of day. Moreover, gamers may notice some banding issues on water. And while this could potentially replace Skyrim’s standard fog, the modder claims that it works best in combination with it to keep the dynamics.

In order to showcase these effects, the modder has also released some screenshots that you can find below. You can also download the mod from here. As said, this mod is only available for Skyrim Special Edition, and not for the original version.

Have fun!

  1. Some improvements made with version 1.03 but the comments section indicates that the author still hasn’t forwarded all USSEP changes so until that’s remedied I won’t be installing it.

    1. When I mod Skyrim, you know who gets mad in envy?

The Skyrim SE Hub users, since 2016, never left the Noctuah NAME, out they mouth . It’s quite nice, having my little fan club, everywhere I express myself .

        1. No, but if I showed you, you would be one of them too, that I know . Though even mine has become quite boring, you know it takes me 16 hours to mod it, totally, when the next Ti card comes out, Remember, I will show you .

RTX 2080, 1080TI, even RTX 2080 Ti would limit out, It’s quite a shame really . I am talking about 30FPS here as well @ 3840x1600p, I really hope the next TI card, isn’t a joke .

          1. No, and I know you won’t show me yours, I can prove it to you with my Skyrim 2011 screenshots, why show you something that was only beaten by me? Why show you old versions .

Not long now, 2020 is when they come out, you’ll see . I will target, 30FPS as I do, A Skyrim like no other will be born . That is for sure .

          2. NocturianArk . People already worship me , by me never asking and just being me . Enjoy your class orders, little sheep .

          3. You know if you show me, you’ll end up doing what not one of the 1000s people that envy me in that little hub were so beaten down with sheer effortless ease as always, they couldn’t even show me . It all started when I said, let me test the Skyrim 2011 version with the WIndows 10 Patch, Honestly…. The nerve . Of those people…

          4. 20 users vs me, bc I asked without mods, with 4x DSR so 6880×2880, could I run Skyrim SE in that res with two 1080s, 400 posts, they all lost, though you see . That is what I am used to . That is why I chase results & truth, rather than friends .

  2. By the way these are just static planes, they don’t react to anything.

This would have to be implemented through ENB like in Oldrim for it to work naturally.
